Has anyone ever seen a genuine slim centre sun visor for above the rear view mirror on a mk3?
I used to have one fitted on my last mk2, rare as fook but available none the less.
Now with the lighter mornings my drive to work into direct sun has become somewhat irritating.

i remember having one on my lupo but never knew a mk3 had them, could try a lupo one?

My vRS has one, will take a pic tomorrow and measure it etc.

I have nicked all the bits to install one from a scrapped mk4 (apart from the retaining clip - must go back and get that).
I am going to attempt to stick it in when I recover the headlining. (would have been today, but would you believe it has snowed here? :angry: )

It probably is tbh, I can't imagine there been much variation. Now to find one the correct colour.

There's loads on eBay but I'm not to sure about getting the correct colour as photographs or descriptions aren't always accurate. I think a trip to the breakers is in order.

Aren't the mk4 Golf sunvisors and headlining a different colour and texture to mk3's? I need to find a Passat of a similar age to my mk3 so hopefully it'll match.

I had a look at a mk4 one today and that looked different to me also them on ebay look diffferent as in the size aswell as they screw through the headlining and the guy on vortex said you unscrew the visor clips and it slides onto the headliner :undecided:

Yeah the mk2 one clipped over the edge of the headlining as well. Il see if i can find the Passat type that is mentioned on VWVortex.

An easier solution but i don't like wearing shades due to having a cataract in my right eye.

Meh I had detached retina and a cataract due to the oil they put in it in my left eye.
They do look good though. Might get one.

Well the one I have is mk4, so I guess I am looking for a Passat one? But what model? B4?

im gonna fit this as it matches my interior well.. however I'm thinking to switch to black roof liner and visors
looks a very easy fit too

I'm going to use a clip that u get when u fit speakers, y'know the ones that can take a self tapping screw ?
well I'm gonna put one of these on the inside of the roof liner and screw into that, the 2 side bits just pushed into the roof line on the MK4 so ill just do the same on mine
will get pics of all the bits i use when i do it.. prob in the week now as I'm DJ ing tomo so will be in bed all day monday

Remove interior light

Hold up the visor and line up, I poked a hole in the screw hole first then marked up where all the rest should be

Now where I made a booboo, it would prob be easier to smooth the back of the visor where the screw hole is and do what brad said with the speaker retainer, however I chose the hard route lol not realising and had made the hole big to take the whole fitting, to resolve i had to tape a small nut with washer then a bigger washer to cover the made hole then tape to a McDonald's stirrer and positioned the washer on the inside of the lining then I could use a decent bolt to hold up the visor.
Gonna replace the bolt with a black one at something but to be honest you can't see it unless you creak ur head round to look at it..
In the end I go this

Whilst we're on the topic, has anyone fitted the sunvisors with electric vanity mirrors in them? I was thinking of doing these as well whilst I'm in the vicinity. I presume you just take a live from the interior light wiring or are the loom connectors already up above the headliner?

No loom from the factory you will need to take a feed from the interior light.

Mine is 97 so more than likely the same, as far as im aware it was some of the cabrios and mk4 onwards that had the underflap lit mirrors and then the later ones had a microswitch in the sliding mirror cover which switched on the roof mounted lights either side.

Just bagged some electric vanity mirrors and loom to go with my mk4 centre visor. :smiley:

Our B4 cl estate had one. That also had rear discs so may hav been an import of some sort.
Brilliant invention though. And while were at it,
Y has no manufacturers done an electricly ajustable rear view mirror???

Vauxhall omegas had an auto dimming electricly adjustable rear view mirror, i have one to fit in my cav turbo!!

It's funny you should mention them actually as I was checking out the mk4 auto dimming rear view mirrors only last week.
