Wonder whether that includes SSL connections too? And to think we criticised the Chinese :lipsrsealed:

Surprise surprise...
As said we mock the far east yet we are the ones worse off

Putting a tinfoil hat on will also help.
Are you really doing things so bad that you're concerned about people who you don't know finding out about it? Seriously?

Unless you've lived in an igloo at the north pole from birth you might just as well join in/stop worrying/ignore the paranoia , as long as you take reasonable precautions to protect your online financial transactions and are not doing anything you shouldn't be doing.

they can look at mine all they want, they will soon realise i lead a f**king boring life

I think this will just save them the hassle of applying for a warrant to check the information.. Speeds up their access to the info and therefore will probably catch a lot more people in the act.. Remember we aren't talking about you looking at thaibrides.com... This is about terrorism and the likes.. Come on people!

Yeah, course its all about terrorism. Its about fines...its about corporations losing money due to D/L. Its about organisation of mob demonstration such as the last riots and the use Facebook and the like provided. Yet we agree with the middle east using Facebook to mass organise and overthrow...wonder what would happen if we did all wear these and go to the Houses of Parliament and over throw them

Just 1 step closer to slavery....knowledge is power and the more they knowledge they have about you the more they can control you.

Oh really? You must lead a very interesting life and think you are different, special and unique. Like a snowflake.

and the more you think you are a beautiful and unique snowflake that people 'in power' are concerned about, the more you're going to become less like Tyler Durden.
To be honest, given the current intelligent advertisement targeting thinks that I'm going to buy Graze boxes and start to use Get Support IT support and that's about the sum total of my activities online I'm less concerned about this sort of thing than most. Why? On the basis that if that's as smart as advertising gets (which is most of what this stuff is about) then it doesn't know sh*t about what goes on in my head.

+1
although I dont like the idea of everyone seeing what I look at on the net... they are more than likely to see that I like to search for a wide 'variety' of stuff on the net. Oh hang on.....
I dont for one minute think the media are also hyping this up... that just wouldnt be like them at all. Just to add... what would be the cost of watching everything that everyone did??
-
^ I'm more worried about the cost of this all and what it would mean to us as an ISP :undecided: Will the government pay for a couple racks worth of SAN's for the extra data storage we'd require in Telecity? Bloody doubt it.
-
Didn't the labour party try to introduce this years ago.. and both the liberal democrats and the tories both voted against it.. :lipsrsealed:

Its not that i think im special, unique or anything else (especially not a snowflake). Just saying it according to the way i see things. The freedom we think we have here in the western world is an illusion and a deception.
Its a well known fact that the gap between rich and poor is as wide as its ever been and only getting bigger, the poor being the slaves. (Bankers making the mess, the rest of us clearing up after them).
All this ties in together with this surviellance (sp?) issue, its all about control....oh and giving Muslims a hard time.

-
I have to disagree with everything you have said there! do you think the process for getting a warrrant is a long que like when you visit the doctors?
Why should they not have to provide evidence of some wrong doing? As for your example scenario (even though its the biggest load of tosh I have ever read and doesnt make sense). The paedo you speak of is being tracked anyway..
-
Plus if you are not doing anything wrong they have taken the freedom of movement, expression and privacy away under a simple presumption that you ARE doing something and need to be tracked. We have a law here that says you are innocent until proven guilty...where does that come into your argument??
It does state they can read the content of non encrypted emails as well. How is that different to all the press scandal...I remember people being prosecuted for "banter" being taken out of context in the Internet and people being charged. Same could happen with email but in the real world you can be threatened by a complete d1ck of a driver like I was last week and the do nothing even tho they are sat there watching him drive on the wrong side of the road to pull up against me to threaten me and then wheel spin away
So its easy policing by presuming we need to be monitored? Err tougher immigration laws N deportation would be more helpful, especially when threatening in public our soldiers and way of life with bs rhetoric.

Having any of your electronic activity monitored with no legal/court permission is no different than having all your mail opened and then delivered to you by your postman, with no reason as to why it has been opened.
-
To the paranoid: Your petition is here:
https://secure.38degrees.org.uk/page/s/stop-government-snooping#petition

But its for national security they tap phones and secure lines, I feel so much safer without knowing what they do when they feel like it. For country and all that!

Heck like most peoples lives can't already be monitored via FaceTwit.

Criminal offence to open mail other than that of the addressee and subject to arrest/prosecution. But its for national security they tap phones and secure lines, I feel so much safer without knowing what they do when they feel like it. For country and all that!
so old hookee was okay doing what he did in broad daylight in front of those we say need these new powers? And ignore those he influenced in the process?

Maybe I'm distrustful but given they lie openly about other stuff why would anyone believe that this new law and power is for our benefit?? Spin is spin and labour started it and now all of them are at

Its ok, next time you text or email a joke to a mate make sure it does not offend anyone or you may be prosecuted... Actually this is a clever plot to stop the cameron jokes...
Like:
Channel 4's new show: Cam Dine with me
Now I've topped up with petrol I don't know where to store it as the bath is full of pasties and stamps
If I'm offline it now means I was prosecuted under the new law and currently in jail

I can't believe you guys think this is about snooping on Joe Publics emails and texts.. All this does is allow the relevant parties instant access to information that could stop an incident like 7/7 9/11 a Paedo ring etc...

Pish. If security precautions that were already in place had been adhered to 9/11 could have been avoided.

Yeah, it's not like councils would use terrorist laws to spy on parents that want to place their children in a school outside of their cachment area, and waist millions of £ of tax payers money.
Lets just all willfuly bend over and supply our own tub of vaseline, because they really are looking out for us.

Now now children, why don't we just overthrow the government and the guys in the forces since they will be defending the government till the last stand?

Also I better stop googling totalitarian

Wowzer.. Cheers for that one.. Must mean that I rock a buzz cut, smash up places when I am drunk and shoot innocent Afghan's too.. Well you know, we must all have the same opinion and be cut from the same cloth...
Maybe I just think I have f**k all to hide, same with CCTV.. If it catches one thingy braking into cars then I am happy.

The problem with any form of 'snooping' is how the authorities choose to use it.
Number plate recognition technology was supposed to be used to fight crime, how else is it used?

Slow thinking.
All those who were in WWII fought and laid down their lives so that we didn't have to live under a fascist state. If only they could see it now. What happened to individual freedom? Collectively sleep walking into a world of 2 way telescreens and fingermen who disappear you in the night.
People are incredibly naive if they think that likes of Cameron et all are operating out of anything else than self interest. It'd be so much better a world if they concentrated on actual problems rather than making up some.
People seem to think that the government knows best forgetting that this was a democracy where everyone was entitled to their opinion.
I believe in this "I do not agree with what you have to say, but I'll defend to the death your right to say it".
If the government get their way and monitor everything like Iran or China, then who watches them to ensure that the information is not misused?
"Power corrupts; and absolute power corrupts absolutely".

You do understand that not any tom dick and harry has access to this dont you? You realise its a specialist unit?
Where is ANPR used in a way that invades your privacy? It helps cops to check if cars have tax or insurance? whys that an issue?

9/11..not this old chest nut again please. So much evil perpatrated in the name of defending freedom and protecting jo-public. Bored you and others have been sent into war based on lies, lies and more lies.
How will it be when the truth finally surfaces and families of those who have died in the armed forces realised they lost their loved ones for an unjust cause.

Automated thoughtless fines without any human input. Faceless systems. I'd say that was about the size of it. A copper at the side of the road can make a judgement if I have forgot to tax or if there is something more suss. Suppose you think speed cameras are not revenue generators?
And as for buzz cut. I wouldn't pretend to know. Unless you use a web cam and that data gets lost/hacked by the likes of Anonnymous in the years to come. Not like Sony Scotland Yard and others have been breached is it?
And I'm with R32UK...why should I leave. It's MY country and the politicians are responsible to the public. It's called democracy
- noun, plural-cies
1. government in which the people hold supreme power, usu. through their elected representatives
2. state having such government
That means they represent us not themselves and the corporations they have links/investments in.

I have to say, whining that APNR
Automated thoughtless fines without any human input. Faceless systems.
They're covering off something that's not a grey area, it's binary - either you have tax, insurance and MOT or you don't.
The days of a 'friendly copper' are long gone and why should you expect them? Even if you've 'forgotten' your tax/MOT/insurance you're just as in the wrong as the next person who's also 'forgotten' about them an you're passing as many people with a potentially dangerous vehicle, which is uninsured and not taxed as 'the bad guy'. There is no 'bad guy', numpties. In the main, here are just people, doing things.
I have no problem with APNR and to be honest I have little problem with speed cameras. If you aren't breaking the law you have nothing to worry about.... unless you think it's unreasonable to adhere to speed limits and to tax, insure and MOT your car?
Those who are quaking in their boots at the prospect of The Government having these all-seeing eyes should take a look at Government systems and realise what a joke that prospect is.

This technology is not just used by the police for checking tax and insurance. It's used for speed cameras too.
Also it is used in private car parks by private companies, to log when you arrive and leave, then hound you with a fine if you over stay.
You did know that didn't you?
The private company is sold the driver's details by the authorities. Now i would say that is an abuse of power.
The point i am making Mr.Welsh Lad is we are always told that if you have nothing to hide then we have nothing to worry about, but technology or new laws can and are used to raise revenue from the general public, rather than chasing criminals.
That is my opinion, you are entitled to yours.

good point. although I am not sure how they can issus a FPN without having identification of the driver?
I have dealt with National Parking services and use them for my own car park so know the ins and outs. Have also recieved tickets from them in the past, phoned them and told them its my car but I wasnt driving. There is nothing to say I have to disclose driver information to them.. and they can only issue the notice against the driver.
... Back on topic, yes they will not only use the information to catch criminals. It will also help them in providing further stats... big companies pay millions of pounds for the stats to help identify their 'customers'. The government will more than likely do the same.. without looking too deep into what you look at
-
Just pointing out number plate recognition tecnology could potentially be used as an invasion of privacy :lipsrsealed:

Chasing criminals? or abuse of power?
Allowing sale of DVLA data to ar-ebiters like these is an abuse and should be stopped. Not that you have to pay any fines issued by these clowns.
APNR used by government to enforce laws is just fine in my book.

Are you kidding me.. Do you realise the legal hoops thats involved in tracking and checking someones internet past at present...
Say Terry Taliban lives in this country, they have been following him and caught track of posting some comments on a anti-brit site.. Do you realise they can't just "have a look" at what hes doing.. They have to build a case, apply to the courts for a warrant, then they only have a window of a said agreed timescale to look at his information and then they have to reapply...
I cannot believe that people think the government are sitting there with a big eye watching what we do constantly.. CCTV is a good idea... Theres never been a time when I can see it ever being bad..

-
I think as soon as you get into "for the greater good mentality" you are onto dangerous ground.
Government should butt out of our lives more and people should remember that the government is supposed to represent the will of the majority. Democracy isn't perfect but it is the best we have at the moment, however instead I feel more and more rights are being trampled on because they believe there are terrorist pedophiles under everyones bed
-

Have you considered that you're in the minority?

:afro: That is the problem, no one stands up for their rights because they worry what people will think and that they will be called paranoid or be told you must be doing something wrong to be worried... No, I just want my private life to be private, I could be the most boring person in the world, I still don't want my privacy invaded.
As usual the minorities will get their way, we in this country sit down and accept too much, minorities speak up while the majority keep their mouths shut, that needs to stop, the majority's need to speak up and tell the minorities to fvck off!
They say it is to protect us from crimes, but those in power break every law going, who is going to protect us from them? who is going to monitor the people who run it? and who is going to monitor them?
Absolute power corrupts!

I am saying that if they want to monitor your internet they have to build up a case and gain a warrant to look at the information.. This does not give them free reign to continue to monitor your online actions, but simply check you out for a set period that the warrant covers...
-
They dropped the bill for the moment... according to the metro
Also I didn't think you needed much to get a warrant nowdays, just say yeah we think he may blow up the world and they hand it to you, no?

Its not as simple as that.. I am trying to look online to see if it says whats required.. Can't find much out there.

I would be truly worried about the system and how it is setup and controlled. Not long ago the government wasted literally millions on something called ContactPoint which was a database of every child under the age of 18yrs. On there was due to be every service they accessed with professionals names. Now that may seem like a good idea but the government handed it out to a LOT of workers. The abuse and possible use of that system nationally for the wrong reasons was never thought of. No request needed to add my daughter or yours on to it, and the hospitals GPs social services education would all have fed info onto the system with ongoing live data so all links to services logged. This may include sensitive medical teams etc
That to me is a worry. I see many parralells to this last proposal. I see nobody commented back about Anonymous
-
What about Honorary Judges leaving laptops on public transport that could contain files of cases such as child abuse with photographic evidence, what about the stolen V5's, what about the Child benifit informtion that went missing several years back?
I was one of the many people who had there information go missing during that incident.
Oh and no one was told off
