Don't really want an ipad tbh. would prefer android.
-
The updates on the xoom have made it a much better tablet, it used to be slow and clunky, however it's still a thick slab compared to the Galaxy tab and iPad2, albeit kitted up with Micro HDMI, Micro USB, SD slot and sim slot if you get a 3G version - it should also be getting ICS being the official big G's blessed tablet. Whenever that is, f#ck knows.
Have a look at the Galaxy Tab 10.1 or 8 inchers, as well as Archos' offerings, they've been in the tablet business for yonks before most other OEMs and make quality devices.

might also have a look at the sony tablet s

Its awful, shame really as i was looking forward to it. Galaxy tab is the best for android if thats what you want.

i agree sony s is shocking, dont really want to pay the price of the galxy tab for something thats just a toy really :undecided:

Up the money and go TF101 or as you know it the Transformer. Not the prime though.
Also if you can get it with the keyboard dock, the dock has an extra battery. With tablet and keyboard charged I nearly get two days non stop 9-to-5 use on a full charge. Its equipped with front & back camera, bluetooth and wifi. I tether the internet off my HTC Sensation as I don't see the point for getting the mobile internet version of the Tablet.
I was in your dilemma months back, I didn't really want to pay out the money the transformer cost, but I bit the bullet and have been glad ever since, I went from a 7" tablet to this.
I can't advise enough to get the keyboard dock though, my friend didn't at work. The keyboard separately is at a hefty price compared to the bundle and my friend has regretted it since. Also with the keyboard it will replace your laptop, I have had tablets before, but never saw it as anything, just a pointless gadget between a phone and laptop but neither any good functionality to replace anything. The transformer is the only thing that can honestly replace the Laptop and does it well! It can easily do everything I use to use my laptop for if not more and superior. The tablet is brilliant, I can link my bluetooth headset and use skype on it, I have my bluetooth OBD-II scanner and torque on it. The battery life will wipe any laptop to hell and back especially with the keyboard attached (2-days use). It has flash functionality, which not every tablet has. It also has a HDMI output, so I give it to my misses and tell her to F-off and go watch iplayer in the bedroom on the tablet. The usb 3.0 cables are now finally cheap now that the TF202 is out which means you can have extra cables cheap and cheerfully (which was not the case months back). It has an office suite already installed, however I still use quickoffice over the standard stuff, even though all the stock apps are more than sufficient and good enough out the box. The processor is brilliant and I am able to run a PS1 emulator easily on it and play it on the telly with a controller linked in.
Can't fault the device, I looked at xooms, galaxy's etc.... This killed the competition easily. Like I said it replaced my 15" laptop as its able to do everything it can do, if not better especially with the battery life. Plus asus are very quick to release updates compared to all other manufacturers which has really shocked me on the android side and how it was amongst the first to get ICS. The Transformer prime (TF202) is also out, however it is an impressive kit, the new Tegra processor is a bit thirsty, which is why I prefer the TF101 for this reason.

The Transformer looks like quite a good tablet device. The connectivity is great with the SD and USB slots so you won't be short on storage space and also the HDMI out is a bonus.
I would assume that it would play 720p MKV files with no problems and also the ability to play games using 360 and PS3 controllers is brilliant.

I was just in PCWorld today looking at tablets and spotted it. It was my favourite tablet there by quite a long shot - I wouldn't say its a thick slab - it seemed pretty small to me!

It is clearance, so whatever stock they have is the last they'll have.
-
it is pretty weighty compared to the other tablets plus everyware near me has sold out of them now.

Yep. Its only online now!
Buy from Currys with promo code "tab5" for another £10 off.
I've just bought one :D I figure I'd buy it before stocks run low and I don't get the chance to not buy it. If its naff, I'll send it back. Got to love DSR.

from having a play with it in the shop i reakon you'll be fine with it

Yeah, I really liked it, thought it was nicer than the Samsung + Sony sat next to them. Coming from having a Motorola Defy phone (which has an average screen at best), my expectations aren't too massive anyway. But the community behind Motorola means that there's a tonne of tweaks/roms/mods that can be dropped onto it with ease.

As long as you're happy  As a once avid Android I still wouldn't pay that much for it now :lipsrsealed: It was too much when they originally came out too and I was hugely disappointed with Android 3.x
I find the XOOM heavy which makes it uncomfortable to hold for a length of time and end up resting it on my lap with my legs crossed to prop it up, even with the free Moto BT keyboard and mouse they gave away for owners last year, it still lagged when typing, though I've not used the keyboard since they sorted out the general jitteriness of the OS and barely touch the slab now.
-
@jay on the stock 3.2 Rom it was laggy on browser keystrokes but generally fairly reasonable, but since swapping it over to eos ics and oc'ing it to 1.4ghz it is very very snappy and all round perfect.
I can touch type in it at nearly the same speed I can on a pc, which is saying something.
I've got no grounds for comparison on the weight, it feels pretty heavy to hold, but its sat on a table/desk most of the time for me.
Price wise, seems fairly cheap for what you get in terms of hardware, as long as your prepared to do a little modification along the way to bring it up to par with other devices.
-
Also if you want to sell the keyboard cheap I might take it off you

£250 from currys now, so I've bought another one to refund my £15 back :-)

Sorry Ben, Keyboard and mouse are here to stay - I've got other plans for them later in the year  The keyboard is pretty slick and slim, they were free with the Moto XOOM promo last year
