Right I've had problems with this for ages now, I've replaced the drivers lock today and it's got worse if anything, I can basically twist my key 360 degrees in the barrel and it takes ages to open the door, sometimes it doesn't and have to get in through the passenger. But today it finally give up on me and couldn't open the door, had to break the barrel off to open the door and now I need a new one, or a repair kit?
Has anyone had this problem before? Would this fix it..

Or would I be better of getting a new part from VW, they match your vin and give you the same barrel for around £50 don't they?
Any help would be appreciated :)

Has someone tried to break into i then? Looks like you need a new barrel to me.
If the lock was spinning around that repair kit will fix it ive done one before on a polo the metal part breaks on end of the barrel.
-
Nope, I just had to break it off earlier so I could open the door had to yank a screwdriver inside a rip the ba5tard out until the door opened :(
So would I need a new barrel from VW or will that repair kit do it? Because if you watch the video I can still get my key in there, just wont turn at all anymore completely broke but before it just kept spinning around until it unlocked

How much are they though? Can't I use second hand ones or would I need the key etc :(

You could use S/H ones however you will need the passenger side and boot lock or you will have to have two keys
-
So if I bought second hand, replaced drivers side, passenger side and boot I'd still be able to use my key and wouldn't need to use another key or would I have to use the key I get with the second hand barrels?
If you understand me

You will need to use the key that comes with the S/H locks - AND you will still have to use your original key for the ignition

Sounds like a ballache to me lol, any idea how much VW would charge for the barrel? I heard it was around £50 but not to sure

No idea tbh :undecided:

What if I replace just the drivers barrel with a second hand barrel and key? Someone selling one for cheap ;) will the central locking work etc?
Just means I'd have to use 2 keys :( ?

Just looked on Vagcat, its saying 40 Euro for a new barrel specific to your car/keys. You need to supply the VIN etc when ordering.
"lock cylinder with housing / * to retain the one key * * system the key code * * number and/or chassis * * number must be quoted * * when ordering *"

Don't suppose anyone knows if the passenger barrel is the same as the drivers barrel?
I was thinking, I can change the passenger barrel which is in perfect working order with the drivers barrel, then buy a de lock kit off ebay and blank of the passenger barrel?
Aaron :)

Also when I press the central lock button on the door panel which locks all the doors whilst the car ignition is on, the drivers door doesn't open again once I've done that so I'm gonna have to break into it again, what could that be, is it just cause I need to use the key to open it or would it be a central locking problem?
just replaced the door lock which was from a scrap yard, could it be that I got the wrong type of door locking mechanism? It seemed as if I got it from a 1.8t or 1.9 golf which would of probably had remote central locking, is that causing my car to be on lock down once it's locked? Never happened with my old lock in..

Thanks for the reply mate, and I would of if it was indigo blue, but how much you after? I could spray it after all
Do you know anything about the locking problem I'm having?
Soon as I lock the drivers door it doesn't open again until I break back into it, is it because I got the wrong lock mechanism it's causing it to lock down?

Least then it comes primered :)
All I wanted to know if the barrels was the same, will have a go tomorrow and hopefully all goes well :)
Hmm.. will have to try another lock mechanism
-
"Are the locks the same?"
Though they look very similar, the locks have different parts numbers on vagcat, so I'd say no.

Problem sorted now :)
Took my car to a VW breakers near where I live, he got a spare barrel and cut it to my key, 3 hours labour and new bits and pieces that were missing from behind my door card all for 90 quid, well worth it
