Title: QTR bills Gas and Electric don't trust estimates!
Post by: clipperjay on 21 February 2012, 15:31
Well got an email saying
GAS = £470 ESTIMATE
ELEC= £250 ESTIMATE

Did a reading stuck the little numbers in and bill changed to
GAS = £215   :lipsrsealed:
Elec = £77    :lipsrsealed:

I've been conned by these people when I paid direct debit before had over 1.5K in credit becuase my DD was never adjusted, my advice give a reading and DO NOT PAY MORE THAN YOU NEED!!!!  :angry:

If they have no data they will always make up insane figures... I have always given readings at the end of every month so they have no reason to do anything but give me a realistic bill.

It's an estimate. You provided real figures, the bills were changed. NO CON OCCURRED   :kiss:

Why was your direct debit never adjusted?

Because they said by the time winter comes around it would be used up  :grin: But I argued you take the stupid amount every month based upon your figures!! So I'll be in credit with you of 1.5K every year! :grin:
At that stage I made them pay me back with interest! So I now pay every QTR via post office!
It’s easy for people to be complacent and trust everything is okay!
People losing their jobs getting into debt and rising utility bills so why should people pay more than they should?

Utillity bills out strip Mortgage payments these days!  :wink:

Your advice was to provide readings, did you not do that until now?

OBVIOUSLY NOT.. I THINK HE IS ADVISING THAT WE DO NOW

So I now pay every QTR via post office!

why not just make an online payment and save yourself a lot of hassle... utils supplies often have direct links with banks now to make payments easier.. or pay using a phone app

only thing i hate about giving readings is we are doing their jobs, scums, they should come and read the meter like they use to

 :rolleyes:

What made you wait until you were £1500 in credit before raising this with them?

Yeah I know, don't quite know what I was pushing for... A stupid way of strengthening the point that keeping readings up to date as far as I'm aware is the norm.

They do, but nowhere near as frequently as required, especially if you pay monthly like me.  To be honest, they only need to read mine now and again to make sure i'm not scumming them.  :grin:

If you insisted they checked your meters every month then I would imagine they would have to charge you more to pay for the man in a van to visit.

Don't automatically think they will owe you money! My Gas and Electric bills have gone up by £20 a month from next month as my usage is more than my estimates. Only found it out cos the meters were read, and they said we owe about £250. That £20 increase will cover the usage and arrears over the next 12 months.  :sad:

TBH working the hours I did most of the bills stuff was left to the other half untill I took over and had a better look!
Back then £300 per month DD was nothing! But like I said its very easily to be complacent!
Its like petrol I'm sure people aren't hooning it as much and more aware of price per litre or price per kilowatts.
The thing about DD it will take out what the company thinks you owe! ESt. or not regrdless they want paid!

I like to pay cash on some bills so its no bother to pop down and pay the odd bill!

You can pay your BT bill 12 months advance and reduce the line rental bill by 30% but most people will not have the money up front sad most people who need these reduced prices can't afford them kick in the bollocks for low income groups!  :cry:

Not yet Jon I do the math per kilowatt then the standing order costs it works out best deals for me with Southern electric I could go to atlantic, but heard customer services are slack plus I only save a few quid! I've been with southern for ages since switching from BG over ten years ago...?
I hate the short term deals then once you are in they hike the prices up!
I've never understood the meter system as low incomes groups pay about 30% extra just to have pay as you go! Insane  :lipsrsealed:

Well, when my new showroom opens up (just north of Oxford) pop along and I'll do you a deal on some renewable energy kit.

Doing some good work on voltage optimisation at the moment.

Cool I'll mull over those link is it true the gov is stopping payments in March for grid supply via solar pannels because it means one month before solar pannels costs should drop right?

Monthly i submit the readings online and it debits me how much i have used. You can also keep track of your monthly spend etc to make savings.

I had a prob with BG, we were paying £107 a month DD, which build up £250 credit in 3 months so I phoned to adjust it. So they offered to change it to £105 :rolleyes: it it down to £90 in the end, after two months I get a letter saying its gone up to £105. So switched to EON where I should save about £160 A year on my actual bills. DD is now ~£70.

Although British Gash did offer £100 for me to stay so if you're with BG get on the blower ;)
