Title: Can I track my GTD
Post by: Mr GTD on 07 February 2012, 23:06
Right people my car has now been built and has left the factory, my dealer is saying its showing that my car is at emden...

My question is...is there anyway of tracking my car myself from this point onwards?? And if so what info will I need to trace it?

Thanks
Steve

Your dealer should be keeping you updated.

It'll be here soon enough. Enjoy.

The most comoon approach has been to go the gate's of VW Wolfsburg and follow the first train or car transporter you see leaving site...

Let us know how you get on! :-)

PS. Bet you can't wait, just in time for the new registration too!

It will be safely parked among THESE ONES (http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=emden&ll=53.338362,7.172366&spn=0.005733,0.012563&safe=images&hnear=Emden,+Lower+Saxony,+Germany&gl=uk&t=h&z=17) waiting for a nice kind Gentleman to drive it onto the boat

Hopefully only a couple of more weeks to wait

Your car could be on this beastie:
http://www.marinetraffic.com/ais/shipdetails.aspx?MMSI=212172000

Or it could get loaded onto the boat "Pacific Highway" heading into Emden as we speak...Can;t see where it's off to next!

If you wonder where all the miles come from when you pick up your wheels, I think this could answer it:

^^ Mileage should be reset to zero by the dealer during PDI.

Ah, thanks...

Yes the mileage can only be clocked back to zero once and if its done less that 60km. Mine had 10 miles on it when I picked it up.

As said in previous post I'm thinking of sending my dealer an email on monday to ask for another update, as I only spoke to him the monday just gone, is next monday to early to for another update...???

My car was built yesterday so I am in the same boat as you, excuse the pun, can't bloody wait, wish you could track it online lol

You can call VW customer services if you don't like bugging your dealer all the time - that's what I do

0800 0833 920 opt 1 and they normally ask for your 8 digit order/commission number, although I believe they can find it using your name too. It's worth a try. Just ask them if you can check the status of your order, and if they tell you to speak to the dealer, ask them if they are refusing to check and for their name, I've only had that happen once.

Thanks for the number mate,  I gave them a call after getting the commission number...I was told that the car is at emdon and will be there till weds/thurs of next week, it will then be shipped and takes a few days to get the uk docks...it will then sit there for a week making sure all necessary paperwork ect is done...it will then take its final destination towards the dealers....so realistically I won't be taking delivery for another 4wks

I think that's worst case, I'd still be very hopeful that you would have it for 1st March. I am hoping I will have mine by 1st March, the dealer doesn't seem too concerned by that. He said he can turn it around within 24 hours of it arriving at the dealers. What's really annoying is that my build week was week 4 and it then changed to week 7, before being brought forward to week 6. If it stayed at week 4 then I would definitely have it for 1st March.

I'd be interested to know if your car has left Emden yet as my car is there now. My dealer seems v optimistic that it would arrive with them within a week. I think he's a bit too optimistic.... but it's obviously happened before for him to say it?

Ah nice, I hope it does as I might get on that ship too! I phoned customer services, but I know that the dealer and customer services both have the same info (they use the same system), they just say that to try and stop people calling. I've literally called every day for the last week lol. Spoke to my dealer once. I'd rather pi** customer services off than my dealer as he's the one who I've got to deal with !

I'm not having the car cleaned or anything when it is PDI'd I told them to do the very least that they can, no stickers in the windows, no tax disc holder, I'll do it all myself in my mates unit - and stick a good few layers of wax on

My GTD is also waiting for a Boat....

The dealer said he will ring me again on Thursday with some more news.  He said they never know if it will make it on the Boat.  Sometimes they fit a few more on, sometimes they dont.  Does not sound very German to me....

Hi Scott, I emailed Marc(my dealer) this morning to find out where my car is and I've been waiting for a reply all day, just as I was phoning customer services my wife decides to say..."oh yeah Marc phoned this morning when you were in the shower" So course I ad a little go at the misses for forgetting to tell me sooner Grrrrrrr!

Anyway my car is still at Emden and is being shipped in the next couple of days, the car shud be at the dealers in the next 7 days or so....customer services told me this and he knew a lot more than the women I spoke to last week so I'm a lot happier now, sounds like mine, urs and Cliff's will be delivered to there respective dealers around the same time, so looks good for beginning of march chaps...

Of course lol, still waiting at Emden. CS gave me BS about 2 weeks at Emden, 1 week at Grimsby etc, so I had a moan and a rant and they said they'd expect very worst case, 3 weeks to the dealer, best case 1 week, normally 1-2 weeks.

Mr GTD, I'm pretty certain you're entitled to a free loan car courtesy of VW if you've not got your car within 16 weeks after ordering it. Assuming VW still do this and assuming you ordered any time from around 20th / 21st Oct or before, you should be eligible.

I'd check this out with your dealer; at least you'd be mobile while you're waiting for your car.

Scott, have you phoned since monday??

Of course lol, still waiting at Emden. CS gave me BS about 2 weeks at Emden, 1 week at Grimsby etc, so I had a moan and a rant and they said they'd expect very worst case, 3 weeks to the dealer, best case 1 week, normally 1-2 weeks.

Oh, that's not good....the cars shud be shipped by thursday, if they aren't and there still in Emden come monday I to will start to moan and worry....of course I hope it won't come to that

Edit..

We'll see matey! If nothing's happened by Monday there will be lots of moaning done by yours truly too. My car is going on 25th Feb so it NEEDS to be here by March 1st. It's been built since last week so there's NO excuse for them to not have it over here by then. I'll give them the benefit on the doubt for now though lol

Keep us informed mate, I've been without a car since I first put the GTD order in(Oct) I've been having to get lifts from my bro and of course the wife in her aygo...so I've been slumming it since then

Just want my independence back......

I ordered on the 25th....
