Just a general question. Im the AWD type of guy
-
RWD when its not icey! I am a lover of BMW,s
-
RWD for me.
i also like beemers, was a toss up between a mk4 and an old bmw for my first car, the mk4 won due to the fact that its generally a nicer place than an old bmw and i do a good hour or 2 in it a day
-
The handling of AWD drive cars has to be unmatchable. Loooovee the scoobys.
-
AWD all day long!
-
after owning a string of awd cars, im an AWD fan
RWD for show AWD for go
-
Only ever driven FWD so I have nothing to compare it to.
-
RWD and ICE
-
They all have their pros and cons. Voted RWD though!

Help out a fellow new to car enthusiast, I have only really read about the 'cons' of RWD & FWD, I don't really know of any with AWD... :undecided:
-
Cons are weight, drive train power losses and less ability to steer with the throttle. Nothing can touch them in tricky conditions though.
Nick
-
FWD!!!!
Rear wheel drive is for posers and drug dealers!
-
RWD or FWD if you want a compromise.
4WD if you want something that just works all the time.
-
I voted FWD as I've only ever driven FWD cars.
I'd be interested in AWD though as frankly the roads around here are terrible and we get a lot of nasty weather. RWD doesn't hold much interest particularly.
Don't know should be an option!
-
AWD
RWD is fun for titing about sideways but AWD is faster most of the time and the more intresting the conditions the bigger the advantage
-
I voted AWD. I borrowed my uncles 2.7 petrol Bi-turbo Audi allroad a few years ago and even though it weighs as much as a panzer tank and it's a big car it cornered pretty damn well. And AWD launch just throws you back.
-
RWD for 51 weeks of the year. Not for the week of snow/ice.
-
RWD for driftking skillz init blud
-
Well my AWD Mk2 dominated on Forza, so that gets my vote.
-
it has to be rwd if u like smokin

well im biased AWD all day long, and its not just for the small amount of snow we get every year but for the wet/damp roads 70% for the rest of the year!
-
Rwd
I've mainly had fwd. I do like the fact when your in trouble (sideways) you can pull ya self out. only good thing about it.
Drove a new Nissan GTR on a track day and grip was outstanding, but when it let go it understeered a lot. I thought the same with my mates S2.
I have a BMW now and find that I can get on the power bit ealier coming out of corners. Obviously more grip due to weight transfer. So faster than a fwd and doesn't understeer like a awd, if it does you can correct it.
For the smile factor, that's what driving is about right? Rwd is much better for me.
-
There are too many factors to simply state one or the other.
A good FWD chassis is better than a crap RWD one.
A good AWD chassis is great...but a bad one awful.
RWD chassis can still understeer.
I guess it depends what you use the car for, where you live, and how often you want to drive it...as well as the car itself.
-
I must state the best car I have drove, was the Nissan GTR!
But I haven't drove a fwd or rwd car in the same class.
Well they don't make fwd cars like that. They can't handle it. To compare a rwd car to the Nissan, I would need to drive a 911 gt3 lol and I think I would enjoy that a lot more whether or not it was faster.
-

Understeer is the default choice for any OEM chassis.
Understeer is easy to dial out.
Once you've removed it on an AWD chassis then you're there, especially in the wet.

You obviously never had a lap out in Hurdy's old Golf.

Not all...but I hear what you are saying.

Yeah defiantly! But just going on what I know.
A well setup awd would be faster than any fwd and rwd car, especially on track!
No I haven't. Any videos?

Not true...that's too big a generalisation.
Why can a RWD Gallardo be faster round a track than a 4wd Gallardo?
Why is a 911 GT3 faster round a track than a 911 Turbo?
Why is a GT3 faster round a track than a R8?
AWD means more weight...and more work for the fronts to do, bar the steering and 50-90% of the braking.
It can be faster...
But it's not a given.
4WD adds traction, not grip.
If the chassis is good enough, and inherently provided enough traction, 4WD is not required.

Until it rains. Even a little bit.

...and that's the trade off.
4WD normally more usable, more of the time.
No arguments there.
for all rain makes 4wd give better traction coming out of corners, it can also add to understeer going in...it's all a balance.

awd reliant robin?

LOL
I thought it was just me who wondered what planet that comment came from.
-
I agree on the whats best for track use and awd will be heavier and have a tend to understeer ,but in the real world on the public roads awd has far better road manors and try to put 400+ through fwd or rwd it will be interesting to say the least ...

AWD all the way mate thats one thing i miss obout my old scoob

 that was sh!t lol
-
Rear wheel Drive and a good amount of down force is the answer :D
-
How about rwd for ideal conditions, awd for tricky conditions and fwd for being average at all conditions?
-
So do awd and rwd
-
So do awd and fwd
And RWD in some circumstances.
Nick
-
Yeah thats what i meant!

Ok clarkson
