Apart from drive it what's the first thing/s you do when you buy a new (or new to you) car?
-
Just waiting on delivery of my new Scirocco hopefully be here 2 weeks friday, first job is drive up North to get it remapped
-
detail and protect it of course?
-
christen the back seat! only joking, I use the front seat.
-
Wait for the flow of abusive texts ... not happened yet, probably because it a decent enough car this time
-
Drive it. Definitely take it for a drive. Usually try to make an event out of it - for example when we bought our GTI we took it up to Loch Lomond for a day trip and some lunch. When we bought our MINI JCW it was a picnic in Ayr on the day we collected it.

... or to the local hand wash place. It will only get dirty again
-
drive it, hard

Depends on how old the car is. First thing upon returning from buying a used car is to give it fresh oil and filter. Obviously check when it was last serviced when looking at it, and even if it's had a recent service, I always give it a proper inspection. Ie; plugs out to check them, air filter out and replace/clean as required, new oil and filter as said, and get it on the ramps to go over everything I couldn't on initial inspection.

Ring Captain TONA for a deep clean!
which reminds me...... G60's Dirty!
-
Sounds like a good list, was just wondering really and thort it wud be a good topic, my plans for wen I get my new car is take off all the plastic arches etc and go hunting for rust, then check all the engine out and maybe a service.
-
I always have to give it a thorough clean until its up to my standard.
-
I always do the cambelt, water pump and tensioners as well as a full sevice even if it has apparently just been done for peace of mind, unless its chain driven........... Then just hoon

change the wheels five times and then stick it up for sale
Fixed

go to my mates long roman road on his farm and do a top speed run. If you can get 110mph when you pass the tree its a good car
but that's only with good history. If it hasn't then a service and cam belt kit is first thing to do.
-
Sell your old car. :nerd:

When a neighbour suggested that cleaning my car was a waste of time, as it would only get dirty again, I asked him if he had wiped his arse that morning.

If it's anything like my mk4; replace the alternator, 2 days later the pick up pipe and 5 days after that a replacement engine.

Doesn't do any harm, and is very funny to watch, especially when he has a glass of Bollinger in one hand, and cock in the other.
