Just seen this on murrymints post and thought I could do with these to tie up the old gal when she is in the dock. Any ideas if these will bolt down on the pavement or do I need a adapter to make them fit? Ordered the ropes to so these babies will stop her floating away in the floods!FFS! there is no way them puny little bars are gonna hold that sort of weight, what on earth are you thinking?(http://i1106.photobucket.com/albums/h364/murrayminf/2011-11-16162640.jpg)
Bet mine was cheaper and is cheaper to run.

Because its a girls car and I bought it for my wife to use. However, it does drive nice and it is 'fun' BUT it will never have the character of a MK1/2 and they never will. Hence the price of them.
Just gave it a effortless clean with a jet wash and dried it of with microfibre. Guy has certainley made cleaning it soooo easy. I really would recommend you all get Guy to clean yours as it WILL be so much easier to take care of, bird sh!t just fell away without any issues at all.
Blue car but no blue rear lenses, there is line that should never be crossed.................................................................................
cheers bud... i'd get another coat of wax on there if you can which should see you through for a few months

Think I will paint the wheels too, most likely see whats left over from a job. Maybe a Honda colour? Should be a nice contrast with the Blue.

What GOLD?
Then you will need blue rear lens's!
Its all good now, slightly higher temp and it has freed itself up. Any ideas on how to prevent this? Could be rather annoying if the Mrs get stuck somewhere!
Still, looks mint sitting outside.

Sorry mate.
Bit of a update from todays drive down to get number plates sorted. On my way home we took a different route and hit traffic. This was due to Police doing random checks on vehicles. Now in 15 years I have not been pulled over but as I was in a MK3 GTi I guess they thought I should be checked with all my documents (which fortunately I carry with me!) 1/2 hour later of my life wasted and I was on my way. I will add, there was a decent MK2 a few cars up that they let drive on by, says it all really.

After nearly sliding her into a roundabout yesterday, decided to change the front tyres so bought Bridgestone Winter tyres. Got them on and they are perfect. Had to tell the tyre fitter off though, blo0dy weights on the outside of the wheel is not a good look. Muppet! He rebalanced them without moaning about it.
Took a picture of her in the snow this morning, kind of reminds of the Titanic before it left and hit the iceberg!
I was going to say that mk3's are only good for the weighted shift rod and should all be broken for spares but that is tidy
i did say them tyres were thin!
yep, I know fella. If it wasn't so slippery I would have left them on. Ok for summer.
how is your mrs liking driving her... or hasn't she had a chance to drive it yet?

I can tell you are secretly loving mk3 ownership!!

I'd be more upset if I bought aRoverMG and that will never ever happen. A VW is a VW. It also handles like a MK2 so I do enjoy driving it.
Ps, MG's aren't that bad.

I was waiting for someone to make that comment!!!
MK3 Handle's like a barge  never like a MK2 in a million years...
A Mk2 and Mk3 should handle the same as their suspensions are virtually identical.
The difference is in the greater weight of the Mk3

I am over qualified in my opinion due to having sh!t loads of MK2's over the years, including the iconic Rallye. And yes this MK3 does handle as well as due to the perfectionist that the previous owner is and having it setup spot on. I am sure many would agree that know this car.
ta fella...
I think what we can learn from this is that there is a mahoosive difference in quality between some cheapo ebay coilies that cost £150 and spending £500+ on a really decent suspension and getting ride height and damping etc spot on
Martz - when you get the new wheelz on I thoroughly recommend getting it laser aligned... I did it with the mk1 and it took the handling to another level ;)
I did say virtually!
By that I meant that the system is the same and parts are interchangeable.
From a man that owned a Fronterra??

Indeed, most vehicles will handle 10 times better with quality products and fitted correctly. Is it also poly bushed all round on just on the rear?Martz - when you get the new wheelz on I thoroughly recommend getting it laser aligned... Yep, intend to do this once I have sorted those wheels out. Won't be until April now as I am reluctant to sort them out and put them on when the risk of the elements is out there!
just the rear iirc - I ordered in some decent top mounts for the front from some VW outfit in london that I got the suspension and rear polybushes from but I can't remember what they were VR6 OEM Ones?
as for the rear polybushes... they were the decent purple ones.. can't remember what they were called either (in fact can hardly remember my own name today!) Will get it fully polybushed then
anyway... yeah... I would say waiting for the spring to come will reap rewards with the new wheels etc... I always wanted her on ATS cups but everyone poo-pooed it saying it was soooo 2007  ATS Work well on any Golf, even better on a clean example! I love haters!!!!
was thinking about you saying about lack of powaaar.... was wondering... apart from a decent service... what you could do to give it bit more pop. It already has GolfGTI.co.uk stickerrzz on adding 10bhp. New cam? Hardly worth doing on a 8v, more power = more fuel and it is a cheap car to run so will leave it like that
have you any other plans for her? No plans, just intend to keep it clean and well maintained like it deserves

heard last night that Martz went on a cruise in the Costa... reported very good NMPG so I am told

It was fantastic, so cheap to run and comfy too. I must admit thought I am wondering how well a VR would compare to a sorted MK2 16v (my old one)?
Things to sort out in the next month -
Needs a clean twice a week
Rear window motors need replacing and need rear sound proofing
Alloyz sorted innit (going red rims and grey centres)
A damn good service and laser tracking done.
And thats it really.

OMG You are sounding more and more like a MK3 lover every day.....
Look at a Mk3 & then look at a Mk2.....
I'm getting worried if the "Original MK3 Hater" can actually like a Mk3.... Pass me the  bag.....
Just standing up for the Mk2 Guys....
have you manage to sort out that heatshield rattle at all?

No no no, MK2's will always be superior!
When things pick up and I have more room a MK2 will be sitting in the garage (or a MK1)
Got a set of 17"s in the garden so I am thinking RED. Good or bad?
Or I could go gun metal with them??????
Yep agree Shaun, however it's just a set that are sitting about. I have a set of BBS (in my sig) that will get the full treatment. I am toying with the idea of going Gunmetal centre with white or red lips? I think it would work.
The other 17's will be battered around anyway so not too bothered, got red paint left over from a while back so may aswell use it up!!!!!
Can anyone else spot the muck too the rear of our one? Looked tired and dull.
No idea mate, he parked up behind whilst I was drying the car and just stared.
Kinda looks like a Tescos MK3 production line.............................................. :nerd:
I will add no brush was used when cleaning this vehicle, just the jetwash and then dried off with Maguires Microfibre cloths.
how is your mrs getting along with it? is she enjoying driving it?

I Like it.
but I am planning a MK2 comeback in the form of a VR  powerplant! Hopefull by August time...........................haven't had one yet so need to change that.
How about one of those V6's like your family wagon's  24v 2.8, that would be f@@king sweet mate
sh!t! Are you trying to give guy a heart attack
I love the colour of this mk3
Martz I thought you had broken this up already
Hey if its ticking the boxes for now then doss about in it!
Jay
Yup the V6 in the Galaxy is a VW engine, ECU etc that Ford decided to use as all mechanical parts (they wouldn't let VW use their 2.3 4 pot engine  ) forgot to ask, is yours a 4Mo or whatever Ford called the 4wd Galaxy? 204 HP would be sweet in a Golf, I know the engine would be heavy, but lets be honest, that sound and power would be awesome !
So, a little update. Nothing done to her at all. I am going to buy 2 rear window motors to fix that little issue, exhaust heatshield still needs sorting (may do that at the weekend) and got a set of rims going on her thursday, which is nice.
The same as you had before. Except black centres and red lips.
Will also need to book you to clean her up with your skillz
Lovely car...
Until someone put those wheels on
The best thing about it, is I can change them to whatever colour I want. Got 2 sets now so can change the faces and the outers.
So, my thinking is gunmetal centres and brushed silver outers. Thats a combination that works and looks great.
May do the other set white lip and gloss black?

That would look loads better :afro:
Filled her up today, £65 lighter now. Also increased it's value by 50%.
increased it's value by 50%.
I think they should stay like that.
Nice meeting you the other day mate. Hope you had a safe trip home.
Question .......... Will a MK2 tinkered engine such as that that TSR build in a 8v form slot straight in and plug and play with the excisting loom?
So, what would be involved with a ABF conversion? DH perhaps could guide?
So, what would be involved with a ABF conversion? DH perhaps could guide?
Buy the mk2
Ok, been a while since last posted. It was treated to a pre inters clean up care of TONA and the wheels were sorted out by by a certain refurb chappy.
Now, there is no way the misses is letting this go now so what to do..............................................................
Seen a 16v MK2 and like it, but no px on this as said above. I am thinking buy it and don't tell her (like I done with the Rallye)? :lipsrsealed:
Those wheels look so good on that
You Mk3 lover, you!
