Its a Fiesta from about 15 years ago...

Look at the hinge buttons on the rear side window. and the body waist line from the back, leading up to the mirror.

I mean that has two cam pullys. A 16v golf has one then a chain driving the other shaft.
So yeah I am.

People think it's a mk3 so no golf at that age has a twin cam engine.

And iv never heard/read it being mentioned as a twin cam, only a double overhead camshaft.

I'm not arguing that it isn't a twin cam as I'm not sure on that fact.

I always thought that if it's a twin cam that means it's identical.
The 16v isn't identical so I would only call that a DOHC.

Ok it's a twin cam.

Yes I know the profile will be different from inlet to outlet.

Ok I was wrong of the understanding of twin cam.

I thought a twin cam looks identical to each other. Where as the golf 16v camshafts are totally different from each other.

Sorry for the misunderstanding of twin.

Christ it's not like I thought it was a sohc lol

Doesn't the VR6 have a DOHC that are both chain driven?

Yes but that is not what I meant mate.

A lot of cars are chain driven and twin cam.

I was simply saying the 16v golf doesn't have the same layout as most twin cams.
Most twin cams appear to have identical camshafts (twin) the golf isn't identical. That's why I thought it wasn't a twin cam. I know it's a duel over head cam.
It was a simple misunderstanding of the word twin.

Vtech? Or is that duel but only one at a time?

VTEC has two cams...but 3 lobes for each pair of inlet/exhaust valves!
Individual lobes for off-VTEC and a common lobe and rocker assembly, actuated by oil pressure via a solenoid for on-VTEC.
Still two cams though...

At least that's how the B16/B18s did it.
Title: Re: The golf advert. Settle an argument
Post by: tweed on 29 January 2012, 17:34
And the 3rd lope has a taller profile. So the valve stays open longer. The solenoid locks the rocker arms together and then uses the 3rd lope. That is at about 4500 rpm

It's got a sort of windage tray fitted...but it's hardly fully baffled.
Jeez...8v Diesels have a windage tray fitted as standard.
You still need to fit a proper baffled sump for heavy track use.

It's also cast alloy...which cracks and lumps fall out if you hit something unlike the earlier steel sump

Hold the thread subject!

Never mind the engine.  A Renault 4 has the gearbox mounted in FRONT of the engine.

Now there's weird and then there's mounting the gearbox in front of the engine.

Every day's a school day.
