ive found a tripple pillar pod on the bay.. boost gauge im ok with..what others are worth dropping in there and how hard are they to do?? i.e .. volts.... vacume..water temp..oil temp..which would be best?? im obviously putin a boost gauge thats the only reson i want it really but which of the others would be easier?? :-/

Volts is piss easy!!!!... and if i could i'd try get oil pressure, but not sure how hard that would be?

I've got an oil adaptor for sale, lets you run two gauges (oil temperature and pressure) off the oil filter housing  :wink:

oh right like a bolt on tee piece before the filter ?? would there be any possibilty of oil pissin out the back of the gauge all over my pillar??? :-@

It's this

http://rspec.co.uk/gauge-sensor-adaptors/oil-temp-pressure/multi-oil-temp-pressure-sensor-adaptor

and this

http://rspec.co.uk/gauge-sensor-adaptors/oil-temp-pressure/vw-vag-m10-male-1-8npt-female-sensor-adaptor

so you can install it under the inlet manifold on the spare port on the oil filter housing as seen here

(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0803/WesRS/2011-11-18125444.jpg)

I've had a custom M10x1.0 male to 1/4NPT male adaptor and a 1/4 NPT blank made up to reduce the height of the main body down and to eliminate a few joins too so it now looks like this bottom is to be screwed into oil filter housing, left and right are for sensors, top is blanked off)

Yes which is why I would recommend a electric gauge with a sender, you will need a remote line as well as wazzers adaptor as above.

http://rspec.co.uk/gauge-sensor-adaptors/oil-temp-pressure/r-spec-remote-dual-oil-sensor-adaptor-kit-1-8-npt

Having a remote line stops any issues with housing cracking

Boost gauge is easy to fit, I did look @ oil temp and pressure but gave up after finding the plug was seized on the filter housing

Well it is easy to check, look on the pillar cover and see if it says airbag anywhere, doubt it will have them, my Octavia is 01 and does not have them.

glad this has cropped up i will be fitting my boost and volt gauge this week as feeling a lot better now, ive found the link for fitting boost gauge on here which is good, but im looking for a very simple place to tap into for 12v from the ignition as my gauges are both smoked and light up when car is running, so i need a simple place to pick up 12v if anyone can help if not i was just going to run a wire from radio as that must be the easy route i can fit radios and amps and do little jobs but im no auto electrition any help guys would be appreciated and pics of where would be even better heres what im fitting gauge holder is very nice and perfect fit but £32 for a bit of plastic so it should, its cost me over £100 for all the stuff to fit but should look the dogs when installed, heres my pod and gauges. :smiley: :smiley: :smiley:

*oil temp
*volt meter

yer cully i reckon that looks miles better than a bit of black plastic lol gettin hold of the headliner material might be a ball ache tho

yes it is mate but one of the lads was breaking his on here as he had a anni liner so asked him to send me some surplus material for a small fee  :wink: was a while ago now or pop to your local scrappy etc you get the idea mate

whatever floats your boat i suppose the black plastic goes with the dash and makes it quite stand out which i like and should still look quite o.e.m just spent around £115 and want it to look nice,  and the fit is very good hence why i didnt buy a universal one and have gaps i did think about it as you can get universal ones for very very cheap money   ( £8 ) but are very soft feeble plastic this one is very strong indeed i put gauges in it to try and fitted nice and tight without using fixings but was £32 as thay say you get what you pay for i suppose, will look very nice once fitted going to start this week.  :smiley: :smiley: :smiley:

oh anyone got any ideas for 12v supply for the volt meter and boost gauge that i can use need an easy one to use as im no auto electrition.

get some pics up stevie wen u start  :laugh: all ive found mate is that most take the display illumination feed from the instrument/clocks dimmer switch so that when u dim the lights the gauges also follow suit plus its right where the gauges are goin aswell but to be honest you can splice into the switch live of the stereo or any other switch live but then they would be illuminated all the time then and not sure how long the back light on those babies will last :-/

I don't have a volt meter but you can take a feed from the fuse box all ok, lighting wise I spliced mine into the light switch, just get a test lamp and find the one that becomes live when you switch the lights on, the dimmer feed is a very small wire so was not sure with adding extra load so did not use it.

Earth wise mine had a common earth point by the steering column so I used that.

right i have a problem my gauges are smoked if you look at pic of it in pod faces are totally black so mine need to be iluminated all the time to see them, didnt think at the time about the bulbs in them hopefully can be changed if thay blow or maybe have led that last longer, so with my gauges its not a case of seeing them during the day with no lights on and then of a night thay light up with the lights need feed from ignition when car is running otherwise i cant see them, dont know if thats a good thing or a bad thing to be honest i bought them as matched the blue dash of the golf and price was quite good, oh well might make a start tomorrow see what happens to be honest and will try and take pics.  :smiley: :smiley: :smiley:

Smoked gauges are easy, hope this helps (you should / may only have 3 wires but they differ subject to what make the gauge is)

Red = Constant Live 12v +
Black = Ground/Neutral
White = Switched Ignition Live 12v +
Orange = Headlights Switched Live 12v + (becomes live with headlights turned on)

i think thats going to be the easiest way round it to be honest with you, just thinking with volt meter if i use 12v feed its always going to be 12 volts i really need to pick up a feed from alternator to see if its charging as you would get 14 volts from decent charging system.  :smiley: :smiley: :smiley:

That is not the case, I tried one on mine from a wire into the fuse box and it showed 14volts.

both gauges have 3 wires red black and purple i think red= live black= negative and purple= dimmer control as per instructions volt meter only needs a live from ignition and an earth to work, boost gauge the same and if you want dimmer function needs to be wired to dimmer in the car which im not bothered about.  :smiley: :smiley: :smiley:

Smoked gauges will not work on the dimmer circuit, my prosport gauge needed 2 feeds so it lit with ign.
