So its been rumoured that the mk7 Golf will preview at Paris show in September this year.
So when do we think we will see a concept of the GTi, and then actual UK deliveries of one?
Early 2014?

Depends on the release date of the Mk7. So far sources (various internet articles) have suggested a lead time of 12 months, based upon the lead times for the Mk6.
I was hoping for a mid-late 2013 date for the GTI.
-
Hopefully they will be out in about 4 years to give me a chance to save up for one of the bloody things
-
Mid 2013 at the earliest.
(I hope)

The A3 was released around 2003, the Golf 2004 and the Leon 2005, so as we still haven't seen the A3 yet (or have we?), the Golf will be around 12 after the official unveiling of the all new A3.

Did a bit of window shopping in the Audi garage the other day and I enquired about the new A3. They had no brochures, pictures, prices or any and info on the availability. However the salesman was pushing for me to put down a £500-00 deposit so I could be first on the list. Yeh right, like I’m going to do that.

Some salesmen crack u up lol

Mid 2013 would mean I'll have had mine exactly 4 years before it's replaced by a new model.
Pretty poor if you ask me Golfs are getting like football shirts - they'll be replacing them every year soon!!!!!
-
New A3 is scheduled to be launched at Geneva this March - 2012
The Mk7 Golf Will be shown this Sept / Oct and I would imagine the GTi will make an appearance in spring - summer 2013!

If having new cars has taught me anything.... its dont get one of the first batch! :nerd:

I would agree with that.

+1 especially when it comes to range rovers and R32's

No problems at all.
Its not only problems that affect the first batch... they always add like nice things once the initial rush slows down. e.g Led rears, colour mfd... just the little changes.
-
It's nice to be one of the first with a new model though.
I still remember the stares and comments I got when mine was the only Mk6 GTI in town.
-
It can be good for the looks, but I agree after ordering my MK5 on release day and receiving it first. They made a fair few changes most annoying was they added the steering wheel buttons. It made me wait to see what updates were getting.
On the build front though I would not say the MK5 was any worse for rattles etc.
-
MY Mk6 must have been one of the first. I picked it up September 2009 after it had been a showroom model for at least 2 months. I remember what it was like being one of the few on this forum actually in possession of the car. Back then the Mk6 was like a mythological creature that people had only seen shadows and heard whispers of.
Now every punter has one
But with regards to holding off for updates, there's always going to be something newer. And besides, because I didn't hold off for updates, I paid significantly less than GTI's cost now. To buy a car now with my spec on it would be an extra £4,000 - I'm not bothered about missing out on a colour MFD or LED's.

Like penguin says I saved 4k and never really had 2 many problems with mine. Nothing untill after a year of ownership but everything was fixed on warrenty. Would defo buy an early model again. Much more exclusive

I got mine on the 3rd September.... took 3 months before anyone even knew what a mk6 was, and that it looked different from the mk5
Most of my mates thought it was just a body kit

At least VW made a change to the GTI, you're driving around in a car exterior and interior that's 9 years old...

Mine arrived July 09 and it was the only one at the VW Festival at Harewood that year. There were people virtually crawling over it to get a look.
I've heard about the "don't buy an early one" advice before as they get things ironed out as they go along. Having said that, I went against this advice and bought an early one because it was just the time for me to replace the previous car. And, other than the silly alarm issue which the dealer has recently fixed (a remarkably easy fix in the end) mine has been 100% reliable (touch wood!!). A couple of early creaks/rattles sorted by Donny VW. Otherwise nothing.
I would happily get an early Mk7 but it won't be time for a replacement. Indeed, I may never be able to afford a Mk7 full stop so we shall just have to wait and see what happens. I've often said on here that VW will eventually price people like me out of the market and the 7 could be the one that does it. I couldn't afford the equivalent of mine new if you included the retro fit stuff like sat nav, bluetooth and so on so I'm sure I won't be able to afford a 7.
-
My previous one, the silver 09 plate was one of the very first into the country. I got it at about 5 months old with a few thousand on the clock as an ex dealer launch demo car (so probably had an eventful first few months) and it was absolutely faultless with no rattles or even the slightest problem apart from a mysterious occasional noise from either the boot or rear suspension that cleared up on its own after a while. I kept that car for two years before vanity got the better of me (I just can't keep hold of cars for more than a year or two, no matter how hard I try) and I replaced it with another with better spec. This car was back in the dealer within two days of picking it up. So much for progress.
Having said that, unless I'm really unlucky with this present car, I don't plan on replacing it with a mk7. Before changing the silver mk6 I considered just about everything out there that was a similar sort of price including the 'just about to be released' ED35 and yet the standard GTI with added Xenons was the only car that I decided I wanted to part with my savings for. Obviously I've upgraded it slightly since picking it up but it really does have the perfect blend of talents.
So that mk7 would have to be much better value for money and/or a significant improvement for me to consider it, despite my car changing vanity. An up! GT is a more likely successor as it's probably the only performance VW I'll be able to afford by then.
-
Odd you mension the up gt as I was thinking of one of those for my other car just a shame they not doing a gti version as the pics on pistonheqds with the monzas on looks good

It was changed, Audi just did the right thing and called it a facelift, rather than seeing if mugs bought into the whole 'new model' bull

Changed? The interior and exterior are exactly the same as its been. All that's happened in new light clusters and some other tiny bits. The GTI has a new interior and exterior.
For the last 8 years I've had 2 Audi A3's so I know from experience.....

And a new engine...
It has the same underpinnings, but so does a Skoda Octavia... does that make an Octavia a facelifted Mk5?

They sure did...they made the S3 look more like the A3 S-Line.
What makes a new model exactly?
New engine? Check.
New suspension? Check.
New interior? Check.
New bodyshell? Check.
As well as new bumpers and lights. Check.
Can you explain the 'facelift' bit again when so much is changed, and the Mk6 physically larger than the Mk5.

I'm feeling sick....just bought my new motor...
-
So, despite it being 20-30% cheaper to make or whatever, how many of us seriously believe it'll be cheaper to buy.
Er, that'll be none of us then!!!
-
Total tosh.
Mid 2013 at the earliest.
-
Timescale irrelevant, the step in Alloy Bonnet and roof sound very good....
VW seem to be understanding that they can make a car just as quick and fun to drive with less power, if they reduce the weight and get the structural integrity spot.
I'm exicited now about the mk7 GTi, looks like we will get a taster with the new A3.

I wonder if you can spec a heavy sunroof in a lightweight aluminum roof?!?!
Long Live The Golf!
-
Straight from that link
The current Mk6 is of course not much more than a heavily facelifted Mk5
I lol'd

A new model is just that; a new model. Not using an old one to add a few bits in.

I'm liking the sound of the Mk7 GTI already
However A) Can't see it arriving in 2012 and B) 20-30% cheaper ( yeh righto )

The mark 7 sounds as if it's going to be a special car, can't wait will defiantly put as order in when it comes out.
Auto Express also has the mark 7 down for 2012 :)

The mk7 may be out towards the end of 2012 but if you want the GTI, then based on VW's usual model launch strategy, the GTI will follow - probably 2nd half 2013 or early 2014
-
The A3 is out soon (if rumours are to be believed) so expect the Golf not long after with the GTI out next year, they will release it after the XVR and ST
-
I read somewhere that the mark 7 will be shown to the public in March at a motor show. That would indicate it's ready to roll off the production line later this year. I would expect the GTI to be ready for spring 2013 :)
-
This is depressing! I haven't even got my MK6 yet and there's all this talk of the MK7.
Long live the MK6 lol!
-
Always a new model around the corner though.
It would be nice too see a mk7 GTi UK order book open towards the end of the year, but I think it will be early 2013, unless anyone knows different.

Blimey the cabriolet Mk7 is a bit basic.... I guess thats why there be 20-30% cheaper

Looks quite high, cross over concept of some sort is my guess.
-

It probably is the new Golf... looks like a cross between an audi a3
-
Its that 'thing' the debuted at Detriot show, coupe cc or something like that.
As the chassis is done, and the golf is more or less a different body on the same chassis, then we must surely be confident that seeing the Golf launched at Paris motorshow we will see the GTi very early 2013?

Interesting.
So you could spend £35k on a Martorell built Audi A3 or £13k on an Ingolstadt built Leon? Hmm.
I'm sure the bigger picture is looking at easy production in the big emerging Far East markets and easy production changes for places like Chattanooga so the factories can easily run on a 3 shift system producing different marques to satisfy local demand.
Hopefully for us Europeans it will mean no more silly 9 month waits for factory builds.
I still don't think we will see a new Golf until the geriatric A3 has been binned off and replaced and all the fuss allowed to settle down with that model.
