Title: Got flashed by a camera tonight
Post by: Sam on 29 November 2011, 01:37
Up in 'bonnie' Scotland, but there was no camera sign and no reflective face when driving towards (and setting it off), only on the rear side for traffic comming the other way. Is this legal? Im trying to look it up online but there isn't much info out there. Anyone point me in the right direction?

It was the camera on the eyemouth junction, after the bridge and I was heading south

If it flashed in your face as you were driving towards it then don't worry. I've set off countless Gatso's facing the wrong way.

** Edit scrap that " Truvelo system uses an infra red flash which produces no visible 'flash' to the approaching driver."

Not legal to flash you so will have been a rear facing. I go out of my way to set them off and scare people on the opposite side

No, I want more torques   :lipsrsealed:

I know, but I dont even drive looking at the road up there anymore- just drive looking out for yellow boxes and camera signs. And in this case there was neither.

were there road markings on your side?

Yes there were the little line thingys for 'photo evidence based fines'

If it flashed in your face as you were driving towards it then don't worry. I've set off countless Gatso's facing the wrong way.

Relieved

As above, set them off all the time. Normally if you set it off going towards it, by the time it flashes you are past it and you see the flash in the rear view.

Yes I got through them all the time but at the same time it does have something to do with the lines down the centre of the road as some of them can get you I recently see a picture on whorebook nice front end view with drivers mug shot fresh from DVLA il find it and post it when I'm not on my phone

It is not a legal requirement to show camera signs. Terminals, repeaters and street lighting in appropriate (i.e 30mph) areas is considered sufficient.

Indeed, but no camera can flash you front on. It could cause you to crash, therefore negating its 'safety purpose'

That's not a Gatso. That will be a Truvelo or the like.

Rear facing cameras that flash CANNOT get you coming towards them the wrong way. Not only that, you've gone past it by the time it flashes the second time anyway normally! I've done it countless times and never got a ticket. Only once when they turned the camera round and I felt like a massive tit. 3 points and a 60 pound fine. Although we didn't know who was driving the courtesy car at the time.  :lipsrsealed:

But yeah front facing cameras do exist.

I also liked going through these with no front plate on the car.

You are misreading my post. No front facing camera will flash you, if it does it is not a front facing but a rear facing speed camera. All front facing cameras use an infrared flash as its illegal to use a full flash.

This does make alot of sense, if you look at the orignal link you can see the valley that you drive over just before the camera. It was nine at night, blowing a gale and raining sideways at the time. On the bridge there are a couple of 'windsock' signs. This somewhat explains but not excuses why I wasn't concentrating on my speed, just trying to keep the car on the road and get across the bloody thing. As stated previously the camera was invisible until it flashed twice when I was 'on it' so to speak.
