IF the problem with my head gasket is more serious than i thought and the head is knackered, i may be able to get a 1.8 16v engine, but am currently on a 2.0 8v
which engine is best and why?
i wanna know mpg, reliability, speeds, torque, as much info as i can to why each engine is good please so i can make a wise informed decision
thankyou

Unless you we're gonna keep it standard, I'd definitely go for 2.0ltr 16v.
Loadsa Torque and power. The best of both worlds
Unless you're looking for the cheapest version in which case a straight swap with another 2.0 ltr 8v would make sense
-
The 1.8 16v is a k-jetronic injection system and you are currently running a digifant. The conversion would be a nightmare and not worth the gains, that's the 1.8 16v out the window.
The 2.0 16v runs the digifant system so would be a fairly easy conversion, it runs at 150bhp.
The easiest option is to stick with the 2.0 8v, I think they are about 117bhp.
I'm biased though...........go for the valver

ooo err missus.......

sass the other option is to get the 16v kr and put some carbs on it if you dont want the hassle of looms etc
-
just fix what you have now and be done with it
-
carbs? throttle bodies with standalone ignition........
-
well ive got a 1.8 16v engine for free so maybe ill invest in some carbs and be done with fuel management

And fuel enconomy
-
and nice idle
-
argh complications
right its between the 2.0 8v i already got in or back to a 1.8 16v
-
i would advise a standart 2L 16v with stainless steel exhaust and 4 branch mainfold.im running a 2L 16v with twin dellortos full race cam and head and it is wild . but it doesn't idel and fuel can be a b!tch(dont go to larie on the cams).
max
-
ive not got that option now
its repair my head gasket or if i want to...put this 1.8 16v in instead
cant edit the poll now :(
-
If i were you i would go for the 16v. More power for your money and they are better to tune in my opinion. But the best thing I ever did with it was go to a 2L. Its up to you.
If you were to go to carbs it would release more power too, once their set up, and the fuel econemy isn't bad if you don't thrash it everywhere.
-
i do though so itd be hopeless
-
oh oh, can we start up the "what is better 8V or 16V" argument. Please Please its so pointless. I like the 16V cos...
-
been done already.......
hundreds of times in fact
-
Sas go for the 16 valver - The chart speaks for itself
(http://img149.echo.cx/img149/9217/16vvs8vdynograph6ud.jpg)
Then at a later date you can change the bottom end for a 2 litre and get tons more fun! If i ever get mine back you can have a drive and im sure you will make your mind up then.

If dosh is a bit tight at the moment I would recomened doing the head gasket on the 2.0 8v ( Quicker job )and then saving up for either a good 2.0 16v Digi (ABF ) or save up a bit more and go for 1.8T AGU at a future date . Unless of course you're absolutely certain you want the 1.8 16V and that it is in good condition. and you don't mind mucking about with the fuel pumps, electrics etc off the donor car :undecided:
