I've bought a G60 fire&ice recently, due to the price, I still can't believe that's a genuine g60.
It is a Lhd, and I've got the original service book when frist bought in Germany. It states as a GTI.
Will anyone tell me how can I find out if it is not a raplica from the chassis number or anywhere else? As there were only 70 f&i g60 ever been made, the information is really limited. Thanks.
Here is the link for the photos, sorry about the quality.

Thanks for the help, the car has ABS, LHD, original German service book which has the chassis number matches the actual car, and the book is in German, but I found out it written "GOLF G60 GTI,LC3U,118KW GKA 5G", chassis number also matches the log book and all the old mots.
Drives ok, feels a lot difference than my mk2 16v, the gear seems really short.
Anyway, I'm not so worry about the interio, I can accept the pink(and think it's more like purple) and blue...lol.

Have you done a search for G60 Fire and Ice on here?
What do you want to know posting pictures would be good to confirm its a alright one
-
There are many ways to tell, but probably the easiest would be to phone a VW dealership, and quote the VIN No to them, and see what it comes back as...
And get some pics up!
Thom
-
Post some engine pic's and we will tell you - Mind you you should have done this before buying.... You could have bought an expensive GTI.... With IMO Crap seats etc...
(Sorry not a lover of F&I Cars)

they were gti g60 so might be ok
easiest way to tell is a genuine g60 will have a bonded in windscreen and a higher tunnel

Correct, but I have seen many cars that have been converted, as the OE bonded glass is NLA as far as I'm aware...

Higher tunnel?
-
Higher tunnel?
They had a higher tranmission tunnel to add strength to the shell

They had a higher tranmission tunnel to add strength to the shell
Were they not Synchro drive as well? So had a prop running front to back

no...
-
Meh, just the LTD's then.
-
They put a god awful interior into it so they could hide the higher tunnel which was planned for the AWD, but decided not to in the end. So the interior fools you, as you have less space and can't get any decent OEM carpet to fit the tunnel
-
I was gonna ask about the tunnel but didnt want to sounds like a retard, aka im sure g60s arent syncro (bar rallye)
-
Rallye and G60 ltd's were def 4wd. Thought the fire and ice were too.

I lhave to say I'm a fan and hope you have got one, I saw one a few years back was lovely. Sadly if I remember right it was destroyed in a fire :undecided:

Edition 1 G60 Carpet will fit !
-
Fire and Ice is not restricted to G60, there were 8v and 16v too.
Never seen a Synro F&I, but there deffo are G60 Syncros. and G60 ED1 Syncros.
A Genuine G60 (fwd or syncro) shell does have raised transmission tunnel and a bonded in windscreen, but there are other differences too, such as reinforced chassis rails.

I've got a set of Normal Edition Ones!
But they are BLUE and would make an Awful Interior Even Worse!!
-

Well yes, but they will fit!!
-
Haaa okay give you that one
The reasons why their was so many fire and Ice wannbies was becuase the first thing the owners did was sell the interior and thus came the non VAG variants :lipsrsealed:
That ED1 blue carpet was also in the Golf 1.8 GL the dash was blue same as door cards I liked the GL seats it was retro cool!

Isn't the Edition one Carpet a much better quality same as the rear speaker shelves... I have a set of GL & Ed 1 - Blue ones and the carpet is a much deeper pile on the ED1's...
-
My GL and other were on E&F plates so Not sure about the pile quality its blue thats it! I'm sure anyone with an ED1 always looked after the carpet better than the old GL owners. I loved my GL it was fast for a 1.8 and nearly killed me three times of driving the dam thing but the Pierburg gave me so many troubles WAX stats aswell!
I've always wanted the sh*t brown dash board with cream leather I think thats a nice combo! I think the brown ones were on the Champagne coloured GL's?
-
ed1 carpets are much thicker and nicer than boggo golfs

Thanks. I Don't know how to upload the pictures. The car is currently in my garage, so I can't take any pictures underneath.
-
You'd better hope that windscreen doesn't get smashed.
Nice car.
-
Does that mean they are much easier to convert into 4wd? If the floor was ready to take the syncro !
Oh nice car
-

Nice car.
THANKS. does it mean this is a bonded windscreen?? it is in my locked garage to avoid winter and rain at the moment, I only want to use it when it's not cold wet(maybe lol...l)
-
It *should* have a bonded screen, depending upon whether it's been replaced by an idiot at some point.
They're NLA last I knew, although there was some stock kicking about - don't think there was a regular demand for them!

IIRC you have the high tunnel a la Corrado, but not the high boot floor, so you'd still be in for that and probably brackets etc. Certainly the conversion wouldn't be a picnic (and you shouldn't do it to the car either!!)
-
AWD Corrado would be awesome!

Why not just buy an Audi S2... Better car all round!!

can anyone tell me if it's a g60 or replica? thanks.

Looks real deal to me, VIN decal says GOLF G60 GTI, as long as all numbers match, and Log book tallies with those numbers, as I said earlier, try giving the dealer a call with the VIN No, and ask if it comes back as a Fire and Ice

They're nice, but I prefer the overall visual appeal and general 'cool factor' of the corrado!

I think you'll find my nonsense is ideally Corrado 16VT Syncro nonsense.
