This should help with your cable set up - it's what I used to install mine

I would star by pulling the radio and feed the loom from there across the knee region to the floor via the fusebox area and along the sill to the bluetooth module. Roof the mic down a pillar to radio going across the knee region again. Test before putting it all back together.
-
Personally i wouldn't bother putting the module under the seat, mines just behind the head unit and it's fine.

Doc put mine behind the head unit also.
Didn't want to remove too much trim.
-
I sent him my private number earlier
-
hi thats me just back on here and got your message
is it ok for me to call in the 2moro
-
i asume the arial goes behind the radio as well
does the bluetooth module not rattle behind the radio
also did you put the mic in the proper place in the roof
-
Sure is - they are pretty straight forward to fit
I put the arials behind the A pillar
Mic goes in the overhead console - there is a space for it
not had a Bluetooth module rattle yet - i remove the air con controls and fit the in the space below the nav unit - but I do tape em up well and use double sided foam tape to hold them in place
-
ok the hardest bit might be taking the side pillar trim off but it will be a busy day tommorrow then
does it need switched on with a vag.com cable ?
-
Dead easy, just remove the airbag plug at the top and there is a torx screw inside remove this then pull on the trim and it will come off.
Yes you need vag com - you got it?
Where are you?
-
not got it
im in lanarkshire just outside glasgow,a local vw specialist says he has vag.com but has never activated it before
-
Oh great - fancy a trip?
-
Hi,
Doc,
how are you getting the mic to the overhead console (post pillar) and how are you finding the mic reception when its there?
Is mic in pillar an option? (ala p3eps walkthrough?)
Thx for the headsup on my local friendly VCDS man, mortygt140, he's booked in.
Mine hasn't arrived yet either, bummer, fitting it in the dark then one eve
-
3hrs 38 minutes journey -not so good

Don't panic b I'm sure there'll be a friendly VAG/VCDS coder close.
Who knew I had one 10 min's away.......well Doc did actually.

im kind of sh*ting myself about doing this job
think it would be different if it was a old banger and not our new car

I know what you mean, I am/was the same.
My advice (if you want it) is that it isn't as hard as you ecpect, all the advice/info you need is on this excellent site, do the research, don't rush it, ask, and invest in a set of trim removals tools from flebay. 'bout £8, well worth it!

I had mine fitted into the overhead compartment (thanks to Steve P) andthe reception is absolutely fine, much better than my previous which was fitted externally above the mirror.
-
I am available to talk now

Some pics and info here when I did mine http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=207562.10 (http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=207562.10)

i decided to give it a go today and ive installed it ok
i even wired in to under the seat but i broke 2 clips on the bottom of the radio trim
when i now press the phone button it says sos call only ,do i still need to get it coded with vag.com ?
i thought it was a bit weird it now isnt a mute button or is this normal until its coded
how do you actually pair the phone to the car, i have searched on my phone but its not finding the car
-
You use the car to pair to the phone through the display in the clocks, but his display may not be vis
Well done for the install
-
thanks for the offer to phone you but i didnt want to give you my troubles
there is no option in my dispay for a phone -i asume ill need to wait till its activated
will i print off the page from p3eps dummies guide to vag.com as the guy has never activated a phone before and i want it all to work-as in the steering wheel etc

Few questions chaps...
1. Can anyone tell me if it's possible to route the big cable under the drivers door-side seat runner (i.e. is it possible without taking the seat out). At the moment the small mic and antenna leads go under okay but the big ones connector block's just too big.
2. I've stuck the antenna (the thing that looks like a spatula) on the A pillar metalwork. Anyone done the same and found it doesn't hold in place? Where have other people stuck theirs?
3. The mic in the overhead console is not too tight a fit. Anyone experience rattles from it?
Ta!
-
1 I don't know as I fit them behind the air con controls - loads easier
2 No
3 No
Peace ;-)

If you feel its too loose, try sticking something else in the holder with it to pad it out. Saves you worrying about rattles.

I pulled up the sill trim and ran it along close the chair then pushed it under the carpet and fed it up through the whole where the airbag wiring is rather than under the chair rails.

So infront of the seat rails, then? I felt around that moulded box (with the harness in it) under the seat but couldn't see a way of getting the wire to it without a bulge under the carpet. Might have another look tomorrow. Cheers.
Quite enjoyed mucking about today. Overcome the initial trepidation of yanking bits of trim off and it turns into a nice little challenge.

It's all good clean fun

anyone had any problems installing there phone kit, ive just had a phone call from the guy doing my coding to say its showing a fault and it wont work.he tells me the kit is faulty and should be returned
-
What fault code is it showing?
The coding is pretty straight forward via the long coding helper but as it's a new module it needs initialising (i.e. entering a workshop code etc).
Also needs to be enabled in the Can gateway (77 Telephone).
-
Th usual, ariel, baseplate by also short to ground in the control unit
The guy called me bu it wouldn't accept telephone code in radio, gateway etc
I tried my best for you mate.

Thats not good.
-
got the car back from the garage and not sure what he was on about but it working 100%
i think the guy tried to get his phone to find the car and that made him think it was not working
the steering wheel controls/telephone book etc are all working a treat
doc thanks for all your help your a top bloke
-
Ha ha good news, it's a very simple task to be fair.
-
I'm all up and running and although it's early days, I'd say it's head and shoulders better than the Fiscon it replaced. Sound quality's better, there's no interference / feedback when taking a call, it always goes back to the music when a call is finished, and there's a massive reduction in "dit dit-dit dit-dit" mobile-phone-on-a-speaker type noise coming through the speakers.
Only one tiny thing...
I have my contacts on my phone as "Smith John mob" etc. But on my RCD510 they appear as "mob John Smith". Any way of getting the oem bt to show them exactly as my phone? Ta.
-
What phone do you have?
-
It's an ancient Nokia brick, about 5 years old, maybe more, Doc. Sorry but I don't know the model... Maybe more modern phones could sort me out but I was hoping there was a hidden menu somewhere on the oem bluetooth...
-
There is an option in the Bluetooth settings in the DIS that changes the phonebook to either lastname or firstname first..
-
That did it, thanks mike.
-
well after a couple of days with the kit working its a great bit of kit
also the bluetooth audio is fantastic
