A few extra Ponies there Doc, Not bad for a soot chucker
-
Superb amount of torque mate, I bet it pulls like a tractor
Jim
-
Doc, would expect exactly the same kind of result from a GT170 ??
-
So the blue HP line is what is was pushing out before the tune 170hp so its a touch over what VW state not bad?

169.8 BHP

Pretty much

Remind me please Doc... Is this with, or without the DPF in place? (I'm assuming it's with?)

Yes, this is with the DPF in place and happy

Needs more work; mines still pushing 300lbs ft at 3400rpm
I can knock a map up for you if you like
-
Very nice
A remap is on my list for the spring. I'm trying to get together a list of sensible mods for the oil burner to make it better all round.
I had planned in a perverse way to try and get a decent track car out of it, for something different, but not sure if it could be mod'd enough to make it worthwhile over buying a GTI/evo/scoob et al... and going from there. The mod'd GTD will probably get passed by most things on track, but it would be fun and make a pretty good (quick) roadcar.

Nice figures Craig, have a look for a company called Darkside-Development, Ryan and Scott do some amazing stuff for the TDI...
There Jetta BKD 140tdi is now at 301hp and 440lb ft, they do a big turbo conversion which uses the Audi 3.0 tdi turbo get rid of the EGR system use race spec injectors and thats it no head work or bottom end.
Most of the stuff is for the pd engine but I think they'll end up doing stuff for the CR engine once there is more demand for it.

I've also heard that if you go over 210bhp on a 170PS the clutch and gearbox won't stand it.
-
I always thought it was the torque that killed clutches and gearboxes. The initial loading of the twisting force.
I did not realise that the g/box was made of chocolate on the GTD. Clutch I can accept as this is meant to be the weakest link, but surely the gearbox is not that soft :undecided:
-
We'll find out when we do yours
-
The gearboxes are very strong but you have to realise that VW make them at a cost and will only build them to spec with big tolerances.
The clutch IS the weak point but if your going to side step the clutch at 4-5k rpm(especially an uprated one) then you can expect a broken gearbox or driveshaft.

Looks half decent for a anchor
Can you do us a GTI vs GTD plot Craig?

You lot will be the death of me lol
Yes, next week when I'm in work I'll get the dyno to chuck em up
-
I think due to the different gearing it is impossible to put meaningful graphs up or they end up looking like below.
This is a Stage1 GTI vs a Stage1 GTD

TORQUE

These may be total bullsh** as I have had a few glasses of red
-
That's a good visual representation. If these could be married up to in-gear accelaration times for real world driving and not traffic light shoot outs then that would be very informative.
Having >300 torqs available
-
We'll find out when we do yours
If you weren't so far away then you'd have it done by now. Been looking for someone with a good reputation to trust up here in Jockland to chat with about fettling it, but so far no joy.
-
The traffic light shoot out is very much of a muchness in a GTI vs remapped GTD but when they are both remapped the GTI is much faster.

Doc, your talents are amazing!
-
You aren't trying hard enough Herr Doktore
I'm at 221bhp and 232lbft from my mini-me 1.4 GTI.
Your torque is however, very impressive. :embarassed:
Get that DPF off pronto.
Great to see that Carbon is doing well and turning out good tuning results. I may have to pop down and see you sometime.

Is the DPF on all of the 170 Diesel golfs? What effect does removing this have on both performance + other factors such as mot/economy/emissions if any??

They are fitted to ALL the 170's; that includes the older PD engines like mine and the newer CR engines like Craig's
Removing the DPF free's up anywhere between 5-15bhp and a few lbs ft of torque. MPG is also said to improve.
AFAIK the MOT is changing next year so any car manufactured from a certain point in 2008 MUST have the DPF in place otherwise it will be an instant fail......

Thanks!
So a pre 2008 GTTDi 170 is quite desirable then I imagine... :undecided:

Rhyso is the DPF like the CAT with the honeycombe centre :undecided: how does it work? If it is like the CAT then can it be opened and knocked out to make it straight through.
Darren

Darren
Yes it is but we sell lovely bypass pipes that help the exhaust gasses flow better
Also you can put you dpf back on if required in future if needs be

What he said ^^^^^
I never understand those who simply remove the guts of the DPF :undecided: At some points in the pipe work around the DPF you're looking at only an inch in bore size
A true DPF delete pipe gives the best gains
-
Cheers guys, just another thing when my turbo went bang I had it changed for an bigger hybrid, but also because the CAT got covered in oil the insides where cleaned and taken out...would I benefit from a proper decat pipe??
Darren
PS Craig have a look at the group buy thread I have a somewhat different deal
