Title: Ordered a GTI
Post by: ScottA on 02 November 2011, 20:16
Hi All,

I ordered a Golf GTI, order was placed on the system on 24th Sept and still waiting for it to be accepted  God knows how long it's going to be!!! but dunno whether to bother waiting or look for something else. Currently have an A3 2.0 TDI Black Edition and want to get rid of it soon!!

Specs:

3 door GTI, white, manual
18" Monza Shadows
Bi-Xenons
Cruise control
Dynaudio
Flat tyre indicator
Luxury pack
Multi function display colour screen
RCD 510

Decent discount .... but is it worth the wait .. been told 16 weeks after order is accepted, but no idea when it will be accepted, apparently dealer is looking for additional allocation to fulfill the order but I'm having a difficult time getting the truth

Cheers

Nice spec, you get leather, bluetooth and rear LED's as standard now i think which is great, i was looking at the specs on VW web the other day.

before your order goes through add bluetooth to it.

mine didn't have it and its the one thing i wish it came with and its a pain in the backside to retro fit as most of the interior has to come out!

Hope you get it quicker than that should be okay as its not DSG , but VW waiting times are a joke !! Nice spec too.

Cheers guys. Yeah they come with leather and bluetooth as standard now which saved a few quid. Just a bit gutted it hasn't been accepted yet ..... and the wait is 16 weeks from when the order is accepted, but no idea when it will be accepted, 1 and half months and counting so far!

oh yeah forgot the come with bluetooth as standard now. thats a good incentive plus the leather is good (though i love the tartan seats!)

you won't be disappointed with the car when you finally get it. I've had mine about 5 weeks now and I love it.

the wait times are a joke though. i got lucky and found mine as a cancelled order. the bloke ordered it in Jan and got tired of waiting so pulled out in August or September so i got it at pre price rise rate!

i think they should still give you the option if you want the tartan seats i hate leather

I ended up cancelling the order and placing it again at another dealer, wasted a month and a half because the lying ************* have no allocation!

But I have now been given a 4th week of 2012 build week, which will put it all just in time for a 1st March delivery. Man that's a long time away!

At least you will have the bad weather more or less over with by then. Its the way i looked at it when i had to wait that long.

I would be temped to wait for the MK7, that must be out at the back end of 2012.

I put in an order for my 1.4 TSI (sigh no gti here) about 2 weeks ago and im looking around Jan / Early feb for delivery

wait until March 1st and you get the new "12" plate in the UK though - surely thats worth the extra few weeks?

(i'm going to be in the position where the car will literally be sitting there for 3 weeks until the plate change before I pick it up - painful but probably worth it)

Mk7 Golf versions are estimated for arrival on these shores end of 2012 but the Mk7 GTI will take a bit longer and most probably May/June 2013. The GTI is normally released 5-6 months after the initial new version release.

I personally think it will be a couple of years yet until we see any versions of the Mk7  :undecided:

Lets face it, the Mk6 was based pretty much on the platform of the Mk5 and I can't see this being the case with Mk7.

I'm going to wait for the mk7 to be out for a year or so, my new mk6 will then be about 2 years old, the wife can have the mk6 and i will get a new mk7 (if its ay good of course)

I'll be ready to strike when the iron is hot!

I am 100% sure it will be alright on the night as a very nice and cute little birdie I have known for many years perched on the wolf's lair told me so. :smug:

It will no doubt be nice, but I can foresee most of us saying its not worth £30k for the standard GTI.....

A bit of information for those hell bent on buying a Mk7 Golf: First deliveries during the first quarter of 2013 with the Mk7 GTI available from the second quarter of 2013 at the earliest. So, I expect my Mk7 GTI will be a '63' plate 1st Sept 2013 delivery.

As you clearly know someone in the know, when is the new platform hitting the A3/S3?

New platform hits the A3 first quarter of 2012 with deliveries soon afterwards for UK customers. I don't know when the S3 will arrive. As a guess, 3-4 months later? Look pretty tasty.
It therefore seems that the A3/S3 will be 9-12 months ahead of the Mk7 Golf/Golf GTI.
You getting an A3/S3? Good choice.
I need the extra doors and I don't want to payout the extra for an A3/S3 Sportback. The RS3 will only be available in Sportback (and saloon?) form somewhere in 2013 it was mentioned.
Oh, what fun!

Anyway, I've booked my 5 door Red Mk7 GTI for delivery to my home on the 1st Sept 2013. The car will now be ordered automatically for me.

Not sure how long after the S3 will be, if it's anything like the current one it will be ages after the normal A3 is released.

Not sure about the S3, again if it has the same stupid rock hard suspension of the current one there's no way I'd get one.

Hi All, I ordered a Golf GTI, order was placed on the system on 24th Sept and still waiting for it to be accepted  God knows how long it's going to be!!!

Hi everyone;  Newboy and first posting here, looking for advice/comments please;
Like ScottA, I am waiting for my new GTI.  I placed the order on May 14th 2011 and was informed "approx 25 weeks delivery".....

I've never been able to afford a VW Golf before, but dad passed away earlier this year and has left me a nice inheritance, so I thought "treat yourself Ash".....  (he would have liked the idea). I specced the car with loads of options; DSG, bi-xneons, sunroof, monza shadows, nav, leather, b'tooth...etc etc.

I've been in regular contact with dealer who has always said "still waiting for a build date"....so I have always been patient.
Speaking to the dealer last week, I got this reply;

"I’ve just asked for a build update, still currently ‘with production’, which means VW are trying to schedule the build. The factory will need capacity as well as the options and engine to be available at a given point in time to be able to schedule the build, and we’re currently at this stage trying to get all of the ‘pieces’ to fall in place".

Question to you GTI guys; Am I being fobbed off here? Reading the forum it seems there IS a lengthy wait.
My other concern is; I bought a personalised reg plate too with a 61 prefix and I'm worried that It will run out before the car gets here!

What to do?.........  Regards ASH.

Call VW UK customer service and speak to them, they will tell you what it is ..... could be allocation I don't know, do you have an unconfirmed build week? I didn't get a build week on my first order because they didn't have any allocation, but I placed an order at a different dealer and got an unconfirmed build week within a day or two, so my advice..call VW UK and ask them what's going on ...... also kick up a fuss because I know some people who have been waiting longer than quoted have been supplied with hire cars by VW! I don't claim to know exactly how orders are progressed but I have an idea because I've kicked off a bit to get it sorted. Good luck

You've waited 24 weeks and it still doesn't have a build date?!? Yeah there is a lengthy wait but that sounds like an exceptionally long time and still no confirmed build date!!  You will still have that time to wait as well.
I'd phone a few local dealers and see if they have any allocation left and can match what you were paying for that one.  Not sure what VW could do for you if your present dealer has no allocation left?

As for your private registration number, not sure what you mean "it will run out" you will still be able to put your 61 plate on it regardless of when the car arrives.

Thanks for the advice - ScottA also - i'll phone VW first thing tomora and report back here ASAP.....
as for the reg number; I was told it has to be allocated to a vehicle by March 2012 or I must pay a retainer fee (not sure of cost). Maybe I will get my lovely VW dealer to stump up for that IF i'm still waiting for my GTI

Ash (welcome btw), they're taking the piss. Stuff retainers and anything else, they should also put on hold any price increases as there's no way they should be taking orders they can't fulfil.
This must be taking the edge off of what should have been a much more satisfying experience, particularly under the circumstances of the funding.
I've never had the patience to buy a new car anyway, at current wait times I'd be planning my next one before the one I had ordered was delivered.

Cheers for the welcome;  When I last spoke to the dealer apart from telling me about "the delay", he also gave me some "good news". As I'd specced leather interior, he informed me that it's now standard on GTI so I'd save over a grand! He was quite pleased to tell me that.....I was quite pissed about the delay.....

My late fathers inheritance is funding the car. Dad would have loved what I'm doing. I've never been in a position to afford a VW let alone a GTI - always had mid range VAuxhalls, Fords etc. He loved riding in my Fiesta Zetec S. Poor old soul ended up with dementure but still laughed his head off every time I went a tadge over 30 round the bends in his village! When I "eventually" get the GTI, I'm gonna BLAST it round every one of those bends, full pelt. Here's to you dad

When you buy a private reg you get a year to put it on the new car. If you can't do it within that time frame you can simply extend it for £25 a year.

Nice car mate. Do yourself a favour and dont get the RCD 510. Wait till the car arrives and get the retrofit RNS 510 from Hazydayz. I got a retro fitted one which was reconditioned for not much more than the factory RCD 510. Its the best toy in the car and indistinguishable from the factory unit. It came with the latest firmware and they will even put the speed camra locations on it for you, and no I dont work for them. Car will be worth more at resale too so its ultimately a no cost upgrade! Also I had the flat tyre indicator on a Mk5 R32. Complete waste of time. Never used it once in 2 years. save your cash.

The thing is, you need to spec the RCD510 if you want the camera like I had to and then upgrade to the RNS510. However if the camera is of no interest then I agree go for the base stereo.

Anyone know what realistically the RCD510's are going for as I still have mine sitting about?
