Title: Best Rotary/orbital for virgin machine polisher(its my xmas present)
Post by: LowlifeDubber on 26 October 2011, 15:52
Now then boys ive decided i want to bite the bullet and learn how to machine polish, basically as ive got her a MK4 Golf in black and it is bloody swirly!
Adi @ http://www.deep-shine.co.uk/ did my MK3 when it got back from the sprayers and did an awesome job but id love to have a go myself(plus i can practice on her car rather than mine) :smug:

Anyway im looking at spending £150 preferably with some pads and bits to get me started,Ive seen a few i like,

Das6 Pro
http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/polishing-machines/das-6-pro-dual-action-polisher/das-6-pro-dual-action-polisher-menzerna-kit/prod_675.html

Also the Dodojuice spin doctor.
http://www.waxamomo.co.uk/index.php?app=ecom&ns=prodshow&ref=DJSDPRO

Anyone able to suggest something suitable for a learner?Id rather not have to get a basic kit then have to trade up in a few months,id like to be able to keep it till it blows up.

Thanks lads.

Gaz

can't comment on durability but it has to be better than my megs g220 which fell apart after only a year of non-commercial use

you'd have to check with the supplier re warranty... its what you pay for with polishers

I'd go for the DAS-6 too Gaz. I used a rotary for the first time last week, and don't be afraid of the horror stories. They're actually very easy to use, just follow the guides on DW and try not to hover too much and use your hand to check the temperature of the area your doing regularly. I've been using one from work, but that gonna be my Xmas pressie too!

Sweet nice one lads.Sean have you been shopping round for a deal anywhere?I looked on Waxamomo as i like to send trade their way but they only have the Dodojuice Buff daddy by the looks of it.

I would prefer to have a few pads and things in a sort of package but i don't know bugger all about the bad coursness etc.Ive been looking round DW for some ideas but im still not sure what i need for different stages of correction etc.

Also when applying hard wax's such as DJ Supernatural can i apply this by machine or am i better off applying by hand?

have a look at the 3M pads and polishes... very easy combo's to use... green with a green pad, yellow with a yellow pad... or you can mix and match... ie. green polish with a yellow pad!

you're better off applying hard waxes by hand using an applicator, you can apply sealants and glazes using a DA/rotary on a slower speed.. this uses less product and spreads them more evenly :)

Nice one thanks again Guy i was looking at the 3m range of ultrafinaIII as my 1st try is going to be with her LO41 non metallic black golf and have been told this is the stuff to use.
Im liking the idea of using a colour system regarding pads and polishes etc.I will look into that.

I have a DJ Buff daddy, works very well for me  I am using the megs 7' pads, have one of each (buffing/polishing/finishing) which I'm using with a couple of megs compounds and I tried DJ LP, which I didn't like too much. I bought it all as a oner second hand so I didn't get a chance to shop around for diff pads. I maybe wrong but on the waxamomo forum site it says that they still have their offer of 15% off 3M products...so get involved sharpish!

Gaz, cos I used my works rotary which is a Clarke budget one, it only came with a 180mm backing plate. I bought a couple of cheap backing plates (Monza) from ebay which were only a few quid. I got the 3M pads from waxamomo - green/yellow/blue and I think their quite good tbh. I only have Megs ultimate compound, and some DJ LP as I was just using it to cut back my dodgy rattle can spray job on the drivers quarter panel. I just used the DJ Need for speed I have for a little protection as I dont really have any other products. My plan is just the basic Silverline Rotary, and some CG Jetseal 109 for sealant, and Collinite 476s for wax when I get it. Comes in at less than £100 so I'm happy with that. I didnt get the bug to want to do it all over again when I finished though, so dont wanna spend a fortune, you may be different though so get the best you can afford. Resale price if you dont get on with it is actually pretty good as well. I put a post in this section a while back asking about the silverline and from replies, its a decent budget machine.

Only just seen the replies off you Guy/Sean.
Thanks for the write up Sean.
ive narrowed it down to one off this page.http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/polishing-machines/cat_68.html
Money isnt too much of an issue as i can add money to it if she doesnt want to spunk £300 on a xmas present lol

Im still swayed by the DAS6 Pro but i dont want to get it and then want a rotary 3 weeks later.

No worries mate. Get whatever you feel is best for you. Like I said though, have a read through the guides on Detailing World, there is one on there for the DA and another for the Rotary. Theres alot of info to take in as its very informative, but still everything is written in Leymans terms so its easy to understand. I must have read through it half a dozen times before I attempted it on mine, and thats on a car with crap bodywork and a dodgy diy spray job! .
If your worried about messing something up with the rotary, go for the DA as you'll be more confident to try it. Like I said as well, resale is pretty good, so you wont loose too much money if you decide to make the switch in the near future.

Can't really help with which one to choose as it's a personal choice really. Only thing I will say is that if you choose a machine that we sell, give me a shout and i'll sort you a good deal out
