Is it true that k&n panel filter destroys maf? Fault in ecu memory as low airflow at maf also have after cat lambda monitoring fault. Lambda fault more likely caused by maf, but have 3" APR down pipe with high flow cat to miltek exh.

i think its the oil from the K&n or any oiled filter that kills the maf.. try spraying some electric cleaner onto the sensor..

Pipercross is a better choice as they are a dry foam type.

Nick at R-Tech did a back to back test with my smoothed airbox/green cotton filter/DSG intake combo and then no lid, both results were exactly the same :smiley:

this question appears on forums for all makes of cars, ran k&n filters on numerous performance cars in the past with no problems and good results...... k&n does what it says on the tin............!!!!!!!!!

+1 as above.I have k&n panel filter and induction kit for sale cheap,like new.I have cold air induction kit now/ the best. :wink:

The issue is that K & N are oiled and they can cause the maf sensor to fail, whilst the dry pipercross does not suffer the same problems.

try them iv never had maf fail. :laugh: if your maf fails it would of with out the k&n :lipsrsealed: i cant stand pipercross how the hell do you clean them, theres no cleaner and i paid £250 for a pipercross viper induction kit years back ,that was sealed no way to take it apart to clean it. :undecided:

They don't need cleaning that often.

The panel filter just needs to be blasted with an airline :wink:

No oil on Pipercross filters ive used mine for years it been spot on :smiley:

pipercross do come with a tin of spray ,god knows whats in it :grin: might be something to catch dust :undecided: but why no cleaner.I loved washing the k&n with its cleaner and seeing all the dirt wash down the drain. :drool: :wink:

ive never oiled my piperx panel filter on my golf but the one on my axgt needed oiling..

i`m 50/50 on this one, as i`m sure the pipercross are supposed to be oiled but us mk4 owners choose not to for the mentioned reasons.

Wrong on all counts, I will take a picture of the box sometime it says special non oiled for vag group cars to avoid issues with the maf, I think the older ones did need oiling but they are now a dry foam type design.

Why cheap, if it ends up causing maf issues you are not really saving any money in the long run.

Nope they are a non oiled filter.

Just to clear this up.
This 3 stage foam Pipercross air filter is specially designed for VAG engines and does not require oiling (dry filter) for extra engine protection. Simply just wash the filter at service intervals and you're ready to go again!

Green makes better filters were they silicon the rubber to the cotton it dont soak into the cotton and restrict it that tiny bit. :wink:

Are you for real? Pipercross make filters for a range of manufactures, the special foam is MORE than up to the job.
Do you really think they would / could sell a product that doesn't do what it is supposed to? Its a filter it stops crap from getting past it end off.
I have run one for over 5 years and thousands of miles :smiley:

The factory airbox and piping with no filter yielded a pressure drop of 5.0 inches of water or 0.18 psi. That means that the worst filter in this test only caused a pressure drop of 0.07 psi. In my opinion, this means that if you are picking an air filter based on performance, you probably aren't doing your car any favors. For the record, the K&N was the best flowing filter. Of the 3 types of media tested, the cotton gauze type filters flow best. :wink: http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/airfilter/airtest1.htm (http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/airfilter/airtest1.htm) use what you want but cotton beats foam. :smiley:
