Title: not holding boost 1st or 2nd????
Post by: jamie1989 on 08 October 2011, 21:41
I have had a stage 1 R-Tech remap before fitting my FMIC.
I have got a boost gauge fitted and I am 80% positive it used to hold 14psi through all gears before fitting the FMIC.
But now Ive fitted the intercooler I have noticed only 1st and 2nd will spike to 14PSI then drop slowly to 10ish but 3rd, 4th and 5th its holding 14.
Is this right or am I going loopy? It doesnt seem any faster or slower its just something bugging me atm.

It sounds about right for 1st/2nd gear as there is very little loading on the engine, try it up a very steep hill in 2nd and you will find it will hold boost better.  For a spec1 remap it should be peaking a little higher closer to 18psi then tail off the 14psi on the higher gears? You could have a weak actuator?

Thank god for that  I will check the higher gears tomorrow and im sure I will find a nice hill to climb in sunny south wales haha.

Ohh yeah Nick I found out why my car was only boosting 4psi a week after your remap, The crank shaft sensor failed. I had it checked on vagcom bought a genuine one from VW and the little beast woke up again

James2 I havent noticed any lag mate if im honest.

Well just come up my old dears house for a cooked dinner haha cant beat mums sunday roast

Took the bora for a good tuning up and down hills 2nd gear holding boost alittle better and the rest of the higher gears spiking upto 17-18psi so im happy  I did have a potch with all the clamps last night making sure every single one is nice and tight.

So now im stuck in the same situation as EVERYONE who visits R-Tech  I want more power!!!!!!! K03s or go one further and get big turbo lmao

Dont worry about it, I own R-Tech and I am in the same situation dude.... I want more power, I am already around 400bhp 12.6 1/4 mile, and would like another 200bhp, We have been finishing off a skyline today and it pushed 590bhp on the dyno, which is my aim for my GT35R setup.. :smug:

Back to topic.  Mates 1.8T in a ibiza mk3 k03 does very similar, except its the other way round.  Holds boost fine in 1st and 2nd then there is very little boost in the higher gears.  Turbo is smoky (oily) so I take a guess its on its way out with the actuator and the seals.

Tried a spare N75 valve and its the same so further investigation needed.
