Been trawling the Bay today because I was bored and found a Silver Mark 3 GTI Anniversary. MOT'd till May 2012 and Tax'd till end of this month. Service history and completely standard. Good clean condition inside and out and no known faults apart from the front windscreen cracked.
Anyway starting bid of £500 with no reserve and located less than 2 miles from my house. I remember seeing this parked just up the road from me and really caught my eye. I sort of know the guy selling it and he will recognise me when he meets me.
I stuck in a cheeky 500 quid bid which I later increased by 20 odd quid to prevent being outbid by a quid or something stupid. So watching the laptop earlier and no one else bid and the auction ends at my £500 !!!!! To say I am delighted is an understatement. I cannot wait to fetch the car and have messaged the chap. However in his ad he stated the Buy It Now was £1150 but also stated No Reserve.
Am I right in thinking he is now obliged to sell this to me for the winning 500 quid bid ??
Cheers
-
put the link up let us see it man, defo a bargain
-
no reserve is no reserve, its ended at 500 so thats wat you pay for it, ebay rules, if he wanted more he shuda put a reserve of had it on a classified ad.
-
you own it now.........legally binding contact....nice1
-
maybe it isnt such a good idea telling him you live only 2 miles away

If he wanted more then he should have put a higher start price but if he decides not to sell he is within his rights to do so.You can obviously leave appropriate feedback but he can then file a claim for non paying bidder and get it removed although you then start down a road you do'nt wanna go !.If he does'nt want to sell then it's his choice.
-
Unfortunately mate I had a bit of a stinker earlier this year with a T4. I offered a bloke 1400 for it, he accepted but didnt take it off ebay, I then won it for 1050 and low and behold, he didn't answer emails, phone calls, texts, anything. The bloke might just flat out refuse and unfortunately all you can do is leave bad feedback....
-
"legally binding contact" ?.Rubbish.You cannot force someone to sell something if they choose not to,even if you take them to court.
-
I dunno if the above is true, though he can obviously tell you to f**k off I think once you win it is legally yours and you could probably do something to claim it? As most people say in their auctions you are bidding to buy not to view, I bet if you bidded £1150 then didnt want it thats what he would say to you
-
"legally binding contact" ?.Rubbish.You cannot force someone to sell something if they choose not to,even if you take them to court.
you cant force them to sell it, but if hes 'sold' it on ebay then no one needs to force him
-
If seller refuses to sell you could consider taking him/her to court but you would have to prove what you have lost.Breach of contract ?.Waste of time.Put it another way,if it were your car and you wanted £1150 for it would you let it go for less than half,NO ?.There's your answer.
That does'nt mean that this seller wo'nt sell,he may decide to cut his losses and honour the bid.He may also say,"sorry mate,do'nt know what went wrong but Ebay made a mistake and they forgot to add the reserve",or," sorry mate, sold it elsewhere, forget to cancel the ad".
-
Thanks for all the replies. I know the bloke selling it and don't want to start something nasty with him. I will explain who I am and see where we go. he is a decent chap and may do the right thing. will keep this thread updated as and when
-
Nicely done mate, cant believe nobody else bid on it tbh.
Look forward to hearing the updates
-
grey area is ebay when it comes to these things. unfortunately like has been said you can only leave bad feedback which some people dont even care about.
best of luck!
-
Just to update.....the Guy sent me a message saying the car sold yesterday and he could not end the auction early !! He then sent me a Transaction Cancellation notice which I refused. I am not going to get this car for the winning bid I thinks......
However.....I have found another not too far from me within my budget. Needs a few jobs doing to bring it back to required standard but that's the fun I guess. This seller has a Guy who is supposed to be ringing him tonight who so far has not called. If he don't call I will nip down tomorrow and do the deal. Fingers crossed time now

Guessed that would be the case.

at least you will know if he's lying :P

at least you will know if he's lying :P
How ?? The guy with the first one (which I won the bidding on) has a unit where the car will be stored so will not know if it's gone or not.
-
Well another update.....I have now given up on the first Anni. However, I have just done a deal to buy the second one at the same price. Picking that up tonight if all goes well and will post some pics as soon as possible. :smug:
-
Well went down to have a look last night. Took the missus's 206 which developed an electrical fault en route (french sh!te). Eventually arrived at the place and there was an Anni parked up looking sad for itself !!!! Had a look round....sills are solid, floor is solid, no rust in usual places, good condition inside and out really and drove quite well. Done a fault code scan and the hall sender came up.
Anyway done the deal and drove the car home as sweet as a nut (27 miles) whilst the missus and the 206 got recovered home
So now I am the proud owner of an Anni after a while of trying toget one. Wants a lot of work to get it looking good including taking all the bolt off tat off it !!!! Looks like a busy weekend for me
So because I did not get home till 12:30 I have no pics but here is a link to the original ad......

Nice one dude thats looks like a great deal!
As for the hall sensor, unless the engine is running when you do a scan the hall sensor always comes up,it's a common mk3 thing and nothing to worry about.

Did a scan first and cleared all codes and then test drove and checked again and the hall sensor was the only fault second time. Not a major job to change the dizzy though. Just a bit lumpy on tickover but will be cleaning the throttle body etc this weekend.

Way too chavvy and attracts the wrong kind of attention !!!!!!! It will be the first thing I replace and will be swiftly followed by removing the crappy bumper extension piece from the back as well.

Trouble is Bud is that's its dark when I go to work and dark when I get home. Will get some up Saturday after I clean it and sort out the tat on it

"not for the faint hearted" LOL

Well had a very busy weekend spent working on the Anni trying to get her looking something like !!!!! Started yesterday with a major clean inside which looked like a scene from "life of grime". Cleaned all the interior and removed a whole carrier bag full of excess wiring which ran from behind the dash and down both sides and into the boot. This involved stripping down the dashboard and the trim down both sides of the car. During this process I successfully managed to bugger up the immobiliser and ended up with the car not starting and the alarm deafening the whole street !! Eventually fixed this and moved onto removing the rear bumper extension that looked really chavvy.
Got up this morning to remove the front grille and lights. Took the lights apart to remove the stupid ring kit that had been glued to the inside of the lights and joey'd them while I was on. Refitted these and set about removing the rear wiper and the terrible back box !!!! She was now starting to look ok so set about cleaning the outside. Then decided to have a little drive around and enjoy the car which looks loads better IMO.
Future plans are to DIY refurb the alloys to make it look better while I track down the original alloys. Pressed plates and not sure about the aerial but I think it needs the original back on.....thoughts appreciated.
Anyway as promised here are some pics as she stands now.....

Already thought that Bud....may change the colour soon...but to what colour ??
-
Good work, looks much better. Just go matt black for the cone on the cold air feed. Will look chavvy if its a different colour to the vents imo.
-
Satin black is what you want.
-
Just a small update. I have today been shopping for the car with a trip to Northampton. Bought some original Anni wheels off Edition38 for £200 !!! Best is that they have been refurbished and never been on a car after. Going to drop these into my spray man tomorrow to be sprayed Black with either a red lip or chrome lip.
Also bought a Vento front end for it. Again going to get this painted Mystic Blue and joey the headlights. Managed to pick this up for £50 with 2 grilles !!!!! I like a bargain and think this will change the car completely next weekend when I fit them. Will post some pics up when done.

Would you not be better to leave them silver :undecided: also red lip is very chav.

Red lip, it looks wicked!

Did think that Mate but I just don't see them looking good on the car. The car is Dark and I am joeying the lights and going for the darker theme so I think Silver wheels would stick out a bit. I am going for the Chrome/Silver lip if my paint man can do it.
-
look very nice mate.
time to loose the bora sig pic now then?

wich vento grill do you have?
-
http://www.edition38.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=416807
This is the one except the chap gave me two grilles but the other one has good clips and is a different colour. I have dropped the grill and bonnet into the paint shop today and picking it up Friday or Saturday morning. Just got to Joey the headlights now  Can't decide on a Black or Silver badge yet though Mate
-
nice. same grill as mine. have the badge black mate. looks alot better i recon. think it look on in sliver.
-
Right.....have now decided that the wheels are staying Silver for the time being. Going to try them first and see how they look. Will probably go for the Silver grille badge to match and if I think they look bad will get them painted Black and badge to match. Should be getting the Vento front back Friday/Saturday morning from the paint shop so will be updating my Sig pic then
-
Well as promised here are a couple of pics of the Anni as it now stands. Had a very productive day which started with a nice Bacon and Mushroom sandwich  Then proceeded to sort out tyres on the Anni rims and fitting those. Then went to the paint shop to fetch the Vento front. Returned home to clean the car and fit the Vento front. Put my pressed plates on and took it out for a spin and to get some pics. Topped all that down just with a nice McDonalds   Kind of liking the Silver wheels and am now glad I did not get them sprayed Black as was the original plan. Anyway....onto the pics

Looks great :afro:
-
Thanks for all the comments.....really loving this car at the moment. It's by far the best Mark 3 I have owned and miles better than the Mark 4's I had and the Bora. Always wanted the Vento front but wanted to do it properly and not go for the traditional Black bonnet so am very happy with this. Also glad I decided to keep the wheels Silver. What to do next ??
-
A decent Engine ?
-
A decent Engine ?
Engine is good enough for me Bud......been down the VR6 route and if I wanted another VR it's easier to buy one than make one. Same with the 1.8t for me....easier to buy a Mark 4. I am also trying to keep it as close to an Anni as possible really. Will be cleaning up under the bonnet next though I think with Samco hoses first thing on the list.
-
That looks wicked!
-
I hear you, but a mk4 1.8t in your mk3 is a much different experience to what you would get in a mk4. plus this is no longer original annie due to front end changes

My original front end is available at any moment and the Vento is for personal choice. I would not attempt the engine conversion as I have neither the knowledge or finance's to do the job properly. I do admire the people who carry out the 1.8t upgrade but I am more than happy with my little 8v. Been down the VR and 16v route but the Mark 3 8v is best for what I need Mate
-
thats fair do is that
the 8v isn't as bad as some folk say anyhow
-
This is probably the quickest 8v I have owned (and I have had 5 of them). It has had a fuel regulator fitted and a cold air feed with K & N Cone filter which may help. Only problem is when I give it a bit I end up deaf as my back box is noisy !!!!
-
yeah the K&N induction kit deffo improved my old 8v lump, removing middle box did too, but made it loud.. which I'm not big one
-
Took the car to the Garage this week as the handbrake has never worked since I had the car so decided this needed sorting out. Got a call to say the caliper's had stuck. Guy said he could free them off and grease them all up etc. Then says you may want to come down and have a look at something !!!!
Get there and the rear drivers side spring had snapped and was resting on the fuel filler tube that goes down to the tank
After a day or so went back to collect the car and the chap shows me the snapped spring which had been broke for some time looking at the old spring. Strange one as the car had not dropped as the spring was virtually still in place due to leaning on the pipe. Also no strange noises but a lucky escape none the less. The chap in the garage has cleaned up my discs, replaced the pads, freed up and greased the calipers, greased all the bushes under the car and changed my rear springs for standard ones so now it looks like a Land Rover !!!!! Now looking for lowering springs or coilovers for it as I just can't look at it on standard springs so now got more money to spend on it !!!!!
