yes
I was recommended by Nick to vent the arch liner behind the intercooler and also to keep the funnel on the front of it too as this will impact on the cooling. I'm running 225bhp with mine. I'm only changing to a FMIC as I got it relatively cheap
They are very good quality and a lot of the diesel boys are running them over on ukmkivs

Looks like investing in onenext week then.
-
mine will be here next week i ordered it on Thursday.
-
lol wazzers will be for sale soon :lipsrsealed:
-
it's already sold lol
-
doh lol
-
im going to put vents in wheel arch ,but it dont have a funnel on front of my intercooler. The last owner must have lost it . and the cover that goes under the engine, but i would of removed it anyway.Ill have a look on ebay see if i can get a intercooler air duct. :embarassed:
-
I think mine is in the shed somewhere...
-
lol i have sorted him out
-
Cool, I couldn't tell you where it is
-
What vents do you use n wheel arch???

you can use the ones off a tt, or make your own.
wazzer, when i look the funnel was blocking a fair bit of the ic, did nick test to see the benefits of keeping it? either way i suppose its too late as mines in a tip somewhere now
-
The vent in the wheel arch, i got from b&q £4.99 . ill cut a square hole and black silcon it with 4 pop rivets holding it on. I got the idea from looking at a newer car when i was painting car park markings at work.
-
sounds good to me mate, get wife to get one she's manager of b&q in liverpool. sorted.
-
lol, its a cheap alloy one the vents face down 9x4 i think but im chopping it down and spray it black.

It's to do with channelling the air to the cooler and then allowing it to escape. There is a bit of theory behind it ie low and high pressure points creating voids bit it's a lot to try and explain.
The main reason for it is the air hitting the front of the cooler is not very efficient without the means to escape. Also with the funnel you are forcing the air to hit the IC and not just glance off

any1 have any pics of the arch venting on there golf
-
I found 1 by searching it on here.It was a tt one he bought and put it in his arch.Have a search on here took me a bit to find.
-
I remember autospeed adding a vent to the wheel arch, it did F all. Reason being was the vent design was not efficient enough in improving air flow and it had no effect on the pressure under the arch which is what they where testing and measuring in the experiment, instead they decided to use a FMIC do to a bigger access of inlet air flow on a pd engine which are far more on boost than our engines, have a read:

I don't reckon that grille is big enough, I would just put load of approx 20mm holes in it and leave it at that

That's what I did on mine, took the arch liner off and drilled through like a mad man, now running a FMIC and its a huge improvement when hammering it non stop
-
front mounts only good after a stage 2 ,lag sucks
-
just had another look at those smic turborevs on ebay and i have notice that they now say they need some moddifying to go on to a tdi does any one no if this is correct or not
-
Cool my smic turned up today. looks well made im very happy, cant wait tell saturday to fit it.
-
It needs an extra pipe to fit to a TDI due to the push fit connections. PM old_no7 (Neil) on here or on ukmkivs and he might be able to help you out with what you need to purchase
-
wazzer , how the funnel hold on to the turbo rev smic. :undecided: And please say yeah, iv put a alloy plate over 10mm hole with a gasket and black silicon smeard on the gasket. Will it hold the boost.

good read that
think ill just be a madman with a drill
-
The bumper will hold it roughly in place, I was just gonna put some duct tape around it lol
Only one way to find out if it holds lol
-
Thanks, wazzer, cable tie should do.
