Title: Passport!?
Post by: x Chelsea Lou x on 06 October 2011, 10:12
Right, so I've been looking at a few websites and direct.gov etc but not having a lot of luck

I was just looking at some info regarding passports and how long will it take for me to actually receive it. When I had mine done it only took a week! But that was how long ago.... Exactly. I'm just worried it won't be here in time at the end of November even though it might take 2 weeks?

Anyway, point is I'm going to Wales the end of this month and I swear someone told me before they were able to get a passport done on that very day they go to the home office place - which I think is in Wales? Can anyone shed some light pretty please :)

I got my passport done after I lost it the very next day at the passport office which is in London just behind Victoria station. Wasn't cheap (cant remember the price but was over £100) but I needed it.

As you said you need to be there in person (10 minute train journey for me so no dramas, bit of a hike for you though). Not sure what this place in Wales is that your thinking of.

problem is... you need a passport to get into wales.. so you can't go to the passport office there without one.

Well fortunately it isn't me who needs a new passport as I already have one, it's Kirk but he does have one which has expired.

And wait, hang on! You don't need a passport to get into Wales?!

Alan, thank you! Scrap Wales.... London is where it's at haha! :)

Passport office is in Newport not far from the bus station. They can do it in a day but get there early as it will be a long day.

Ohhhh I don't know what to do...

Should I risk it and just send off the form and wait for it to arrive, or wait 'til the end of the month as I'm going to either Wales or London.....?

Knowing my luck, it probably won't turn up until a day or two after for when I leave to go on holiday?!

just so im right in thinking, you or shady, need a passport because your going to wales?

It's Kirk who needs it of course.

Another thing to take into account is that I don't get paid til the end of the month, so I wouldn't actually be sending it til then anyway because I need to send a cheque? So no I can't just get on and send it, otherwise I would!!

There's no point whatsoever applying online because you need a signature on it so they'll only send it back and forth!?

If its shadys passport why is chelsea payign for it?! bloody freeloaders   :lipsrsealed:

I'm pretty sure I never had an interview for my first adult passport, but that was 8 or 9 years ago so things might have changed. Ring up the passport on the number on the gov website and ask them, they do different levels of service  its not just 1 day or 3-4 weeks.

The 1 day service is good though, I had my appointment at 9am and was cruising around southern France the same night

edit: Though I just found this on the gov passport site

Quote
Allow six weeks for a first adult passport

In most cases you will need to attend a passport interview, so Fast Track and Premium services don't apply. The timings in this section are for other applications.

If you are applying for your first adult passport, you should apply at least six weeks before you want to travel. You can't use the Fast Track one-week or Premium one-day services. This is because, as well as completing the form, you need to have an interview as part of the application process. The Identity and Passport Service (IPS) will contact you to arrange an interview after they have received and checked your application.

right... as a helpful response

there are a few ways to do a passport

1. do it yourself as a standard turnaround
2. do it through check and send at the post office... means your application won't get rejected.. costs £24 quid but I think the turnaround is quicker
3. at the passport office... you book an appointment.. get seen and your application gets processed in one of three ways...
3a. turnaround the same day
3b. turn around in one week
3c. turn around in two weeks

Last time I needed a passport I was told I was going away the following week so had to get the passport office to do it... did it on a one week turnaround and it came back in three days.

My other half got her passport through post office check and send this summer.. it didn't take long at all.

You can of course look all of this information up online :)
