Big loss that.

Not only for the all the work he did in the tech world, but he was a big player in getting Pixar off and running , which off course produced films such as Toy Story , WALL-E , Nemo ect.

There is no niche market for anything anymore. All the stories like this (richard branson, alan sugar etc) all similar. They were around when the market was filled with gaps, they took the advantage and did well. There is no way anyone without money to start with can make big money anymore.

I'm sure that's what many people thought back then, IBM, Xerox etc all loads of money and unlimited resources but it took a 2 small companies to change the world.

True, though being a computer genius and ripping off an idea from people who had a large sum of money helped.

Other than facebook how many people have been as successful as richard branson, alan sugar, steve jobs, bill gates etc

No, its just you have issues with people and feel your superior post count and age gives you the right to say and do as you please, if someone has an opinion thats different than yours you attempt to belittle them about it. Ive seen you do it throughout the forum to various people. All forums have their version of you, you are superior here but not off the computer and low post count people wont say anything back to avoid your sheep followers lol'ing at them.

As far as i'm concerned, Steve Jobs has done nothing to change the world for the better. Just any other person with some cheap products. The cost effective, mass produced tat that becomes obsololete within months is one of the biggest problems facing the world today. They may make billions, but is very wasteful in terms of the enviroment and its resources.

For what they are and how long they last then yes they are cheap products. A price tag does not determine how well made the product is, but rather how much the masses are willing to pay for it.

Agreed.

Macbook pro is made of solid metal and is powerful enough to compete for years to come.

The problem is the £200 flimsy plastic laptops in tesco that are sold by the dozen which break / obsolete in 6months.

Same with the phones, they are solid!

plus 1 million.. build quality is always superb and last much longer than lesser brands, my 2006 Powerbook has had some serious abuse thrown at it. here it is after 5 years of been used in nightclubs, illegal raves plus lots more demanding situations..

works just like it did the day i bought it and look at the condition!!!!!..  iv just replaced this with the new 2011 Macbook Pro but will hang on to this old tank for the illegal events  :lipsrsealed:

I don't doubt that they do but like everything in this game they have a shelf life built into them. They will be designed to fail after a certain amount of time so you go out an buy the latest model with all the new features. The new features that they could have included in the last one but didn't because they slow down how technology moves forward with the view to get the most money out of it along the way. You think companies like Apple couldn't come up with a product that could last 50 years? Something which hard and software could be upgraded to suit at minimal. Yes they could, but they don't as that doesn't make sense in this market of making money.
Title: Re: Steve Jobs

^^  that is a ridiculous reply

why don't VW makes cars that will last 100 years then we will only have to buy 1 car in ours and out children's lives.. the world moves fast so does technology..

Apple computers for instance out live the PC equivalent ten fold..

For what my old Powerbook cost me, and the amount of money its earned me in gigs and events it paid for itself the first couple of weeks of buying it.. it still runs perfect to this day. i just wanted to upgrade to the new one

in a nutshell Apple computer are fooking good and very well made!!!

I'm not Apple's biggest fan as you all know, but their hardware excellent, sexy and even I like it.

GTI_Jamo, Let's not drag this thread down, the man is dead respect him and what he has done, love him or hate him. I will also admit he has had a profound effect on modern technology, would Sir Berners-Lee have created the first web server if it weren't for the NeXTcube that Steve and co. at NeXT created? Would Microsoft have done the original Windows that lead to what most people use now, if it weren't for Apple inviting the Microsoft execs over and showing them what they had stole from Xerox ?

There is a lot of stuff Apple took inspiration from, then created it in their own unique style that has lead to others pushing the boundaries.

It's a dreadfull way to die, poor sod.  Apple products are nice looking and has a nice OS, but Apple only design the product (many British designers infact) and the OS.  They are made in the exact same Foxconn factory as all the other cheap products.

Steve was without doubt the untouchable hype machine, as Apple don't design technology, they design their products around existing technology to fit in nice looking boxes.

Eh? he was on about Apple

You write that as tho im saying people who dont have apple products are not cool ? infact where as aanyone put that ?
If you have issues like that, then thats down to you, and seen as you dont own any apple products i dont really see how you can argue if the products are actually no better than any other manufacturer (is thatr what you are saying ?).. I dont own iPods, or iPads because i have no need for them and would never own anything to look cool as you say haha. but i do own a iPhone and its been the best phone i had ever and bulit better than any others iv seen that are on the market at present. Also has the best customer service. these are all my personal opinions BTW.

As for computers. I got my old powerbook and new MacBook Pro not for the looks at all. But for the sheer reliability and straight up performance it offers. it is a must for me (and 99% of any other DJ / Producer)  it is the industry standard. i dont expect you to understand that tho and i do understand what you mean to a extent.. but what you say is not the case for everybody.

not looking to argue with you. just wanted to get that point accross

1. Weather or not you like Apple, that's not why were are in this thread.

2. Can't blame Apple, they aren't the ones saying the product is the best.. the users are..

3. EVERYONE knows Steve Job, or at least Apple. What impact have you had on the world? ... Nothing, thought so.

4. How can you say he hasn't had an impact on the world? No one is saying he has created an app for world hunger. Fact is he has targeted everyone, basic user to techno wizz. Every business will offer these and people want them. That is an impact, are you deluded. Just because you don't like it makes you better then him?

For the first time on this forum i actually feel like reporting some of these posts.. as said it's a condolence thread, grow the f**k up!

I know why they don't, i know why apple don't and i know why every company be it automotive, mobile phone or bloody vacuum cleaners don't...

Basically, why say that sh!t about apple when it applies to any company??.. if people don't like apple thats fine but saying stuff like that was  just daft

I dont own anything by apple, i dont dislike apple, I just dislike all the silly cnuts that think the apple products they own are better than everyone elses and anyone that doesnt have the latest ipoo is not cool.

... back on topic now would be good

Gilly chill out man , not everyone is a Cnut because they like Apple , Believe me ive had them all over the years and Apple is better in terms of CS and reliability also there build quality is top. give it a rest with the sweeping statements , love you man

One of the last pictures taken of Jobs' after his last stage appearance earlier this year, quite possibly knowing this was the last time he would ever be on stage:

That picture conveys so much emotion it's untrue!

RIP Steve, revolutionizing several industries during a short lifetime is a fantastic achievement!

I feel for anyone who loses their dad, brother or family member.
While we remember Steve Jobs say a prayer for other unsung heroes who gave so much and got no recognition.

That sums up Apple, I hope for their sake and the industry as a whole they can continue to deliver great devices for years to come.

Thanks for the iPod Steve.

Btw, why is this in the technology section? It's a condolences thread, not a tech thread.

While I am no Apple fanboi, I can see the impact that Steve Job (RIP) has had on the world. He (through Apple) made technology more accessible to people and easier to use for techno-phobes.
A few highlights of Apple's work: Using a mouse with a Graphical User Interface - now the default way to interact with a computer. Stable computers that result from the fact that hardware and software come from the same source. Gadgets that combine attractive design and ease of use that appeals to the non-techie types (iPod/iPhone/iPad).
Computers come and go, but these are things that made a difference.

How is that a nice touch?

He used the loophole so he could park in disabled spaces without being fined and made an example of.

As per the comments:

You could still enforce fines etc if he was seen doing it. I just thought it was a nice touch getting a new car every 6 months because he can. He wasnt one for spending obscene amounts of money.... so a little extravigance can be allowedI guess.

MOre to the point.. he has now highlighted a loop hole so it can be closed
