The usual crap is going to happen. Phone released world goes mental, Phones on ebay for £1000's.
If i had one for a upgrade i think i would sell it, whilst people are going mental for them wait a few months then buy it in the shops, or do what every crook is going to do, get it as an upgrade then sell it, report it stolen on insurance.

Post by: Mikester on 27 September 2011, 17:28
For the first few months it will cost an arm and a leg even in an upgrade. Plus the tarrifs will be bad value.

If you wait a month or two it will come down massivly.

I spoke to O2 today who said that when its realised they will only offer it on 24month contracts with 1 set tarrif for the first few months.

Apple's address:
1 Infinite Loop

Much like their products.

They b!tch about others copying them, but what have they done with iOS? oh yeah, copied Android.

Always been a fan of Samsung phones and their TV's, and currently have the Galaxy S2

Look at what Samsung will be releasing next year ... Going to be called the Samsung Galaxy SKIN

Here's the concept version they made:

icloud is IOS 5 which you will be able to attain on the iPhone 4

The name is not certain until someone from apple walks out and calls it its name, regardless of your mates who work at phones4u see on a screen.

Samsung Galaxy S II is made out of recycled lego and is only slightly smaller than some portable tablets; no thanks

Im hoping for alluminium back, tapered like the iPad2, dual core processor, decent front facing camera and slightly larger screen. Ill be placing my order as soon as i can, been holding off my upgrade since June!

I know i wasnt saying for definate But its a bit of a coincidence that was all Besides anyone on 02 can fastrack upgrade They knock of the vat and remove 25% of whats left pretty good if your still just a few mths away... I wont be getting this release day Just got the new blackberry 9900 and love it breathe of fresh air compared to the iphone as i have had them since the 2g model... My 2nd contract is up in december so il wait and see....  IF it is the A5 chip will be a very good phone though.. I still think it wont look much different from a iphone 4
Title: Re: iPhone 5

I have also been holding off my upgrade (although its quite nice having my iPhone4 and only playing £20 a month :D). People can bash Apple all they want these phones are the best thing going, so easy to use and the app store is just immense. Nothing comes close.

Will wait to see what deals O2 offer though, as others have said its probably going to be worth waiting a while for better tariffs to come out, the 4 will do till then.

Got agree with Jules, the Sammy GS2 is huge ! Not for me although the screen is nice. iOS > Android.
Title: Re: iPhone 5
Post by: damien010685 on 28 September 2011, 11:37
LolIt is true Nothing beats a jailbroken Iphone :D  But on another note i would never take a iphone on contract any more Waste of money especially on 02 as you can only drop your tarriff now once throughout your whole 2 yr contract so if its £55 a mth to get the fone free after 9 mths you can only drop it down to the next until the end of your contract!!! Sim free contract and buy the phone outright FTW!   Mind u wont stop the obssesed idiots buying out there contracts with a yr left and taking a £60 tarriff lol just to get the  phone free!!

And i agree S2 is a ace phone until you look at it its fookin huge!!!

you can do everything an iphone does with anyother smartphone out there that runs android so what's with all this "mine is better than yours" talk?

If anyone can shed any light on what features are exclusive to one or the other then that would be a more interesting topic.

Other phones do suffer similar, but not as bad as the grip of death on the ip4. My phone loses a bar if I cover the battery bay, but it won't drop altogether. This is one of the reasons my MD is wanting something else now that the rose tinted glasses have worn off.

Much better app store which has everything first. Lots of apps you can find on IOS which you wont on android. Its open app store puts a lot of companies off (such as banking apps)

It's only the UK banks who have not really got on yet, very much doubt it's the fact that if you publish an App it appears within a short period of time instead of waiting weeks or months to get approved.

Quad core phones will be out by the end of the year apparently, or early next year (who knows maybe that's the delay for the IP5?) so this time next year we'll be waiting for  octo-cores

*Octo-cores and higher ARE already available, just not in phones yet, same as quads.

Last i checked angry birds doesnt need quad core. Why would you need that much? Battery life will be awful and the phone will be bordering on a tablet in size.

The quad cores they've said they're putting in phones will be lower power than the dual core, that's why they haven't put the already available quad and octo cores in phones yet, they're  getting the power consumption down

If it's good enough for banks all over the world, it's good enough for UK banks. What security flaws would you be talking about exactly? Name some please, I'd be interested to know what they are and how that would stop UK banks from having Apps for Android.

Personally I wouldn't do banking on my phone or tablet anyway, no matter what OS it was running. I check my account once every 2 weeks at the most and I've always said having a banking app on ANY mobile OS is a rather stupid idea, exploits exist in ALL mobile OS's - sh!t look at how holy iOS is...
Title: Re: iPhone 5

look at the key security company websites at their reports on Android, each release exploses another flaw (Gingerbread exposed a keylogging flaw that was sinple to exploit) this coupled with an totally open and uncontrolled marketplace just makes it a minefield

Also one big issue is that each manufacturer adds their own spin to each release and on top of that each carrier adds their own personal requirements... so when you say I have Android 2.3.4 on a Samsung device from Orange.. this wont be the same as 2.3.4 on an HTC from Vodafone - each version will use a different kernal and other aspects will be different - let me give another example, the native email client and PIM services on a 2.3.3 Galaxy tab from Vodafone UK wont connect to ActiveSync 2010 (there is a know bug with SSL) but take the same tab from AT&T in the US and it will work fine...

This is where is have to concede Apple have the upper hand.. complete control over OS and HW means that 4.2 from one carrier = 4.2 from anther carrier globally no discussion

This complete inconsistancy is the reason why banks will stay away from Android for sometime yet.. there are too many unknowns

As does EVERY OS release, by ANY company. Look at Lion :lipsrsealed: You not seen the bugs each iOS release brings?  The Market place does need more control, but it's Google's ethos of being open that's keeping the way it is, thus the Amazon Marketplace and carrier Market's/stores where there is more control. But at the same time each app you install will tell you what permissions it needs, if it's a simple game and wants access to your Phone calls, record calls, place calls, Text messages etc don't install it, 'tis not hard. If the app has a new version and you upgrade it will tell you if the permissions have changed, even for the Apps you've set to autoupdate.

That's a Samsung issue and should have been addressed before releasing the effected devices, it also effects the SGS2 - 2010 has been around long enough now. My old HTC works fine with Exchange 2010, prompts me to accept the permissions the server needs to control my phone and off I go.

This is where is have to concede Apple have the upper hand.. complete control over OS and HW means that 4.2 from one carrier = 4.2 from anther carrier globally no discussion

This complete inconsistancy is the reason why banks will stay away from Android for sometime yet.. there are too many unknowns

It's also their limitation as  they only release 1 iphone and 1 ipad a year (currently), variety and choice is what makes Android and WP7 good.

Banks are staying away from Android because of the FUD being spread, what's wrong with an App that's effectively an interface to the webpage (which they already provide if you do to the mobile banking website for Lloyds and Barclays), sending data over SSL/TLS (using the versions that are not effected by the recently possible security issue with those protocols). Plenty of other apps function that way without any security issues. It's mostly FUD being spread by those who do not know what they are talking about is the issue.

Even if that were the case it still took the banks years to react to the iPhone and come out with Apps.

Just had a look and it appears Lloyds and Barclays don't even have an iPhone/iPad app, so even if I did have one of them fruity tooty tings I couldn't 'micro manage' my money anyway without using the mobile banking website

How many UK banks actually have an iphone/ipad app? Natwest and... ?  :undecided: I don't have itunes so can't check even if I wanted too.
Title: Re: iPhone 5

As far as i know they are readying apps for IOS5. You wont see many apps released until after 4th october now due to the costs and time of updating it to be compatible for a new IOS.

Im not saying Apple is perfect, far from it, if android releases a tablet or phone that works as well, with a touchscreen as good (my biggest factor in buying a tablet/phone) and is well made/feels nice to use i will move. Until then i dont need quad core, i dont need a 10MP camera and i dont need a massive screen.

Bare in mind i wouldnt have an iPhone if i couldnt jailbreak it as well.

Adam, considering there were over 600,000 android activations every DAY by the end of July and over 1 million per day by the end of 2011 I'd say Android has the potential to have a larger monetary value than any other OS out there. Google is making billions off the in app adverts alone! Never mind all the apps that are purchased through the market, licensed by OEM's or other in app advertisement companies raking it in along with the App devs.

The only measurement usually quoted is the amount of money made via Marketplace/App Store purchases and the advertising money is forgot about because it's harder to calculate.

Jules, look at the Amazon Kindle Fire. Seems nice, cheap and runs Android.

Personally I was going to get an Android tablet but I'm not convinced after having had a Moto Xoom in my hands for a weekend and had extensive use of it over the last month, it's too complex and I think a polished Android 2.x would be better suited to tablets, hence the lack of Android 3.x apps.

I think I'll wait and see what Icecream Sandwich brings to the party, and yes that's the code name for the next Android release  Otherwise it'll be Win8 for me.

Windows mango is brilliant, try and have a go if you can.

If someone cracks the kindle fire and puts a decent version of android on there i would sod my iPad off for one! Obviously i would need to have a play as the touchscreen could be awful (from videos it looks like there is lag  )

Had a play with Sonys offering. It works well if you use it slowly, start trying to do something fast (as simple as page swiping) and it has a fit! Awful for the price!

Jay. Stop.. Please stop.

Why? having an interesting discussion rather than the 'apple is sh!t', followed by 'android is sh!t' retort for a change.

same sh!t as ever....not interesting at all listening to jay ramble on about how big and good android is and how bad apple is or OS or lion...heard it  zillion times.. nobody cares no more

There is a difference between telling it how it is and slating a platform, pointing out issues, bugs or the obvious is telling it how it is. I use Apple, Microsoft, Android and other systems you wouldn't even begin to understand, based on this experience I make my decisions and try to be as neutral as possible and yes I do make the remarks about Apple because it's MY OPINION - in jest - which the last time I checked I'm allowed to have an opinion and have a joke.

So if this displeases you, please feel free to fuck off. Forums (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Forum) are for discussions, if you don't want to be apart of that because you don't understand the context of the topic, click away.

i got my first one just after orange was created from HT/Rabbit in 1994.. got lots of 0000's at the front of my account number... it was on a personal tariff

my phone then was known as the 'orange nokia'... the other phone they offered at the time was the 'orange motorola' - both with caller ID as standard!!

I remember as a kid getting my first mobile phone, a Motorola M3778e on Orange (how the f*ck can I still remember that?!)

and the first thing I did was run up to the woods, to call home to ask what time tea was  Still got that phone knocking about today.. and still use my 3330 as my backup phone. Gets much better battery life than any smartphone!

Samsung should make their devices their own and not make them look similar. The only thing Samsung should copy and that's the build quality

iPhone's are good phones but I prefer my HTC.

However, no matter who "did this first and they did that first and Apple just copied like they were the first" blah blah, Apple have made all the phones as they are today. They made the iPhone big and everyone has followed it. Regardless of whether the other companies had the ideas first, Apple made it.

I took that figure as 5% of mobile phones EVER sold are iphones. Not as in last year only 5% were iphones. If its ever then its pretty impressive.

Ever sold? No. Otherwise that'd be almost every person holding one right now.
Guestimated in use, currently? Sure, but that's a guestimate provided by all the carriers over the world or just in the US, did they clarify WW or US?

Lots of stats spouted by companies at launch events give an insight into things, but are usually just there to wow people and hide the truth.

Sure the Mac grew 23% last year and the PC 'only' grew 4%, but that 4% ( 40,000,000 machines) of 1 billion+ users is larger than 23% (2,800,000 machines) growth of a product line that's around 7% (~70,000,000 machines) of the total computer market.

So if Apple are so happy and boasting about 23% now, what about the 32% growth in 2008? Is it slowing down, increasing or  stabilizing? and percentage points changing accordingly? Most likely increasing a bit in reality, heck I've had 2 customers [out of 400+ PC's] buy Mac laptops this year (both regret it due to the learning curve, PC World sold it to them though).

Make sense?

Percentages, not what they're  cracked up to be :nerd:

Any actual pictures yet?

Looks like an iphone 4, feels like an iphone, different internals and 2 antennae (the iphone 4 band and internal, swaps 'seamlessly' depending on how you hold it).

Just been on the Apple website, doesn't look too bad but was looking forward to the glass back going. The new voice activated feature looks decent but doubt it'd get used much.

No one has used one yet, please stop referencing 'similar' apps which compare to siri (which is 4S specific, you wont get this with IOS5 on your 4)
There are tablets on the market for £100 with similar specs to others, you wouldnt buy one though as it doesnt do everything as well, this could be the case with siri and the 4S. If Siri works like it seemed to at the conference then it will be worth it over the GS2. I have a 3GS so its an epic upgrade for me.

Not sure why apple fans are going 'oh noez' and android fans are going 'lol' What magic feature were you expecting? If it had a bigger screen you would be saying 'same as GS2' etc What more can manufacturers do now? Put a better chip, improve the camera and better battery is about it for the future (3D is a gimmick)

A5 chip, 8mp camera with HD video, Siri and IOS5 will make the phone (as a package) more than just a rival for the GS2. I dont need a bigger screen, the GS2 is bordering on a tablet. I would have loved a new case as im not a fan of the 4 but then i have not owned one, just played with them. Maybe it will grow on me. Im going to wait a few weeks and see what i want to do.

True enough but i wouldnt rule out siri for  the 4  as i was reading the 4 can handle it mind u....as u say they might just keep it so people wanting the feature have to get a 4s.... if you have a 3gs then as u say this will be epic no doubt about that just a pity no cosmetic change...

Chill Jules  I was pointing out Apps that have been available for over a year on BOTH platforms that do pretty much the same thing as Siri. The large screen is great, I've been using 4.3" screens since the Desire HD and love it.

This Android fan is going 'Meh' not lol.

Apple have cocked up but apple fanbois will lap them up! I personally think android will plough ahead now. No iPhone 5 till July with phones like the GS3 soon, nexus etc etc

I prefer IOS and the phone will do everything i could need it to (and more with siri) so im sold. I will wait till christmas though i think.

Im currently only paying £20 a month with a 4 as my contract is up, its been up for some time now as I was waiting for the 5 which is now not coming out . . . wayne kerrs. Im just so in love with iOS that I think I will really regret it.

Id love to have a Galaxy S2 for a week to see how I get on. Who wants to lend me one?

Unless you are going from a 3 or 3gs to a 4s there is no point in going from a 4 to a 4s there just enough difference well for me anyways... Besides you will be kicking yourself if a 5 comes out and it rocks the socks off the world... like adam said Stick with a low tarriff and just keep the 4 load up ios5 and get the iphone 5 when it comes out... thats what id do

Some mobile companies will give you a week or two grace period to return a phone, that's how I changed from the Wildfire to the Legend with Vodafone. Just make sure you can return it before signing anything, tell them you're used to iOS and not sure if you want an Android - if they don't want to let you have a return period tell them you'll stick with the iphone 4.

1 of my bosses was watching reviews on the GS2 on our dashboard screen and the GS2 screen colours and vibrancy were actually pretty good compared to the other phones!

You might as well just wait Al.  The 4S is certainly a huge disappoint, looks to me like existing iPhone 4 owners are the winners here.  We're going to get all the benefits of the ios5 without having to fork out any extra money.  Ok, so the 4S is faster, but in real world performance, who's even going to notice it!?

They're tryng to mask the fact they have absolutely nothing to offer worth calling it an iPhone 5

Plus they know they can release basically what is an iPhone 4.1, safe in the knowledge they'll make millions selling tens of thousands of them.

The average contract in the states is 2 years, now the UK is following with the 2 year plans.

They realised they were going to be 2 years behind everyone and in technology and as Jay will tell you and im sure you kknow yourself thats a hell of a long time. So release a new major phone upgrade every 2 years and the "in between people" will have the slightly modified version.

 Example- 3Gs to 4s, 3G to 4, 4 to 5, 5s to 6s.....see where im going with this one.

Your so right aswell. If the iPhone 5 was just as fast as my 4 I wouldnt be bothered. It made me laugh when Apple had that bar chart of how long it takes inbetween photos. The 4S is 1.1 seconds fast than a GS2 (or something like that) . . . seriously . . who gives a f**k!? What will you do in 1.1. If they came out and said that the battery will last 4 days then Id be impressed. I guarantee you the 4S will need charging every night like my 4.
Title: Re: iPhone 5
Post by: JulesS3 on 05 October 2011, 20:26
This is it. For us 3GS owners the 4S is perfectly out in time for an upgrade. An what an upgrade!

For 4 owners it is not worth it, same as the 4 was not worth it from the 3GS.

When the 5 comes out it wont be worth it for us 4S owners but will be for the 4 owners.

etc ad infinitum

That gets their method/madness (which ever way you look at it), it wouldn't surprise me if the Ipad2S came out next, or maybe a Ipad3 then a 3S...

There have been enough new things this year they could have thrown together an awesome blow your socks off phone, but didn't.
