When I got home from college on thursday I spray foamed my car and then gave it a good going over with the pressure washer with the turbo lance to get any chunky debris off it.
The next day after college I bought some Turtle Wax Colour Magic as recomended by the guy in the local motor store. I then hand washed the car (twice), and put it in the garage and got straight to work hand polishing it. I spent the rest of the day working on it and finished it a something past 3 in the early hours.
Next day I go in to the garage and the garage roof had leaked (as it often does) in various patches on the car and left browny rain drop marks on it... So i got the hose on the affected areas and went round the corner on my bike and got some fake chamois leather things for a quid so that I could dry it quickly and re polish the affected areas and then get the car waxed.
When I'd finished drying all the water off it I noticed that all the water droplets from the leaky roof and the hosing down had left f***ing marks all over the car from where the water had beaded... and they aren't exactly the easyest thing to polish out for some reason. Nevertheless, I got to work repolishing all of the affected areas, (pretty p***ed off by now) I'd just finished the bonnet and was just moving onto the front wing, when the F***ing sky decides to pi$$ all over my f***ing car...and now my freshly polished car is covered in this:(http://i1142.photobucket.com/albums/n602/lestansey/2011-09-18161435.jpg)
And I know I'm not the only person this has happened to, but FFS I spent the whole day hand polishing the damn thing and then this happens... GGGGRRRRRRAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!
Rant over.

buy a drying cloth/towel and some good quality wax (collinite is my current no1)
when you wash dry with a towel (you shouldnt get water marks when it dry's then) and then give it a coat or few of wax... rain etc should then bead and not dry into the marks you have

turtle wax :lipsrsealed:
-
use one of these on the body work to get rid of that

Yeah I tink I'll be taking it back to the knobjocky that sold it to me.
What is the best polish for METALLIC paint out there?
waxmomo and collinite seem popular by the sounds of things. You'll probably have guessed I'm new to the world of detailing

Give it a good wash and clay and buy yourself the above wax brilliant for the winter months.
PS have a look at the the detailing facts & guidelines in the stickys

I 'avin some of that, it sounds pretty durable and at a fair price too.
Is T-cut metallice any good?
-
absolute no no to T cut stay the hell away from that !! Use Dodo lime prime or AG paint renovator I'm sure the big boys will be along to use other products !!
-
+1 about T-Cut, utter rubbish! If you can run to £30, get yourself a pot of Dodo Juice Supernatural hybrid wax, its wonderful stuff, easy to use & lasts for ages, so perfect over the winter months too:)

Why is T-Cut rubbish just out of interest?

Its got much abrasive's in it, and could take off to much paint
-
Is that the same for the t-cut metallic, because thats suposed to have a finer cut that the standard t-cut.
I Auto Glym super resin polish any good, thats supposed to have quite a fine cut isn't it.
-
AG SRP is a really popular product, id go as far as saying probably one of the most sold products out there, who doesnt have a bottle of this stuff? even i do now, and i dont like autoglym
as for t-cut, from what i gather, the cutting agent in it basically consists of metal particals that arent as fine as what they should be, its old skool science for our grandads, technology in car cleaning certainly has come along way with some amazing products out there that would put our grandads montego to shame, old skool product for old skool paintwork
AG SRP is a very fine cut with fillers i believe?
-
clay and lube (quick detailer) under 25
autoglym srp or finish kare 215 all in one for polish, under 15 quid a bottle
finish kare 1000p/ colonite for lsp 20-25 quid a tin that will last forever
thats what i'd spend my pennies on
and a washmit and a drying towel 20 quid
-
I'm not much of a detailer but i do like to get my car looking clean and shiny.
I got £50 in Amazon Vouchers free so i bought THIS (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Autoglym-Show-Room-Shine-Showroom/dp/B000VZGBPW/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1316783038&sr=8-4)
Pretty cheap and i was more then happy with the results.

Looks very nice mate ^^^^

I use the autogylm super resin polish on my 3 metallic blue cars. (1 dark, 1 medium, 1 light blue).
Then the autogym extra gloss protection sealer. (seems to work better for me with the filler of SRP than jetseal 109 did)
Then collinite 476s wax.
To get rid of the water marks try the autogylm paint renovator it did not work for a couple of the marks on mine so i had to use the meguires scratch X.
For between waxes after washing i have started to use Meguires ultimate quik detailer as it seems to just throw the water back off if it rains on it.
Im not a big fan of halfords but there 3 for 2 on car care products did come in handy.
-
with halfords, there customer service is as thick as a plank of wood, and if you ask them a question they will look at you like youre from a different planet, however, halfords is only good IF you know what product youre going in for, and halfords is ok for having the right stock in, despite some of it being over priced (like tools)
-
Looks great Wherry
I rang customer sevices at turtle wax and they said that I got the marks because I hadn't waxed it which is fair enough (baring in mind I did plan to, but the rain interupted the process  ). But they also said it could be due to my cars paint oxidising as a result of its age... That doesn't mean that it'll never be right surely ??? I'm guessing it'll be fine providing I can get it washed, polished and waxed without it getting rained on in between? :undecided:

The added bonus is there openening times and there open Sundays so you can get stuff when you suddenly realise you have ran out. The 3 for 2 also meen the prices are not bad. Tool prices and other things are not bad if you have a trade card.
As you say Halfords don't know anything about the subject and i have delt with waxamomo and a local supplier (who gives 25% off) of the high end products like Collinite, DoDo, Chemical guys, Poorboys etc etc but there not always open/available when i realise i suddenly need something were as halfords is.
