right well i know i should of gone to the doc's by now what have been busy with work
etc so had no chance,
think my problem has come from lifting wrong im a (drayman) so all i do is lift 2 different kind of kegs.
11gallon and the 9gallon,
basicly a couple of weeks ago my back let go when i was lifting the 11gallon at the back of the van, hurt like f*ck but carried on working etc
told me boss so i went out on my deliveries with a mate.2 weeks have past and i have taken a year supply of pain killers etc i even got some of a pall that broke his back and is now off work for life and they did jack sh!t,
the pain i have is in the lower back pretty much dead center and farely deep not a surface pain.
i know have trouble sitting in the car/driving or even being a passenger and with the van and its very difficult even sitting on the sofa.i had to have a lie down for 3.5
hours this afternoon just for a rest, currently sitting on the sofa with 5cushions behind me and still im in pain,
i have tried looking on the web for what could be wrong but to no a-vail.
has anyone had any experiences with back pain etc that could shed some light
thanks
james

Possible slipped disc, go & see a doctor
-
You need to see a doctor about this I'm afraid. Either down to A&E or wait until Monday and straight in to your GP.
Does the pain spread anywhere else?
Is it constant?
Is it sharp/stabbing/throbbing?
Does anything make it better or worse?
Have you any numbness or tingling in your legs?
-
i always thought slipped disc went you could walk or that you would be immobile.
thanks for your quick response

Not if you've taken a years supply of painkillers.
You've made yourself ignorant to the further damage you're causing by not resting it.
See a GP before it's permanent.

sorry forgot to say the other day i had complete numbness in my left leg followed by intence pins and needles
was very uncomfortable, its a constant pain dosnt go away, nothing will ease it and i can only get comfortable if im laying in the fetal position when going to bed.
-
Sounds like either a slipped disc or spondylosis brought on by injury and accelerated through lack of self care. Both of these can cause trapped nerves which would be affecting other areas of your body.

In that case then a slipped disc would be top of the differentials list. Have you got an A&E dept near to you? I would recommend getting yourself down there now, as you don't want to risk any further damage. They will be able to examine you properly and give you some proper anaesthesia to help with the pain. Seriously - don't f**k about and get yourself looked over asap.
-
^^
This.
Get in there you numpty.
-
as said, get yourself checked over. you need a professional to get 'hands on'
on a side note which brewery are you a drayman for?
-
yer the a&e is only down the road from me
i better sort it out now,
thanks guys for your imput
-
i work for island ales mate.only been there about two months
that prob why i have been so ignorant about seeing a doc and taking time off
-
Get yourself down there now. Be prepared for a bit of a wait as it's a Saturday night!
You do need someone to examine you properly though, and as I said, they'll sort you out with some stronger anaesthesia, so it's the only option. Good luck and let us know how you get on :)

hopefully you reported to your boss as an injury at work otherwise they may not pay you for time off.
-
Ouch, one of the guys I work along side just had 6 weeks off work due to back problems caused at work. Get yourself seen to as it will get worse.
-
Make sure your mattress isn't too soft as that will cause problems with back support too.

MAN UP!!!!!!! defo need docs probs prolapsed disc and trapped nerve

MAN UP!!!!!!! defo need docs probs prolapsed disc and trapped nerve
Manning up is exactly what got him into this mess!
Now be a real man and get yourself to the walk-in!

Hope you're getting on ok.. I'm a physio, I would say get yourself down to GP soon if you're getting leg symptoms which suggest nerve root compression from a herniated disc. Definately get yourself to A&E straight away if you get saddle ansasthesia (abnormal sensation around your groin/pants area/bladder/bowel problem). I would advise against complete 'bed rest' and would certainly say keep yourself moving within comfort of course and certainly advise you to avoid things that aggravate it i.e lifting 11 gallons!
Besides that, I cant really advise more without a proper assessment. Hope things sort themselves out soon for you pal.
-
Did you get training?
Report to hospital and company.
Could be a decent claim here.
-
He needs a physical examination, including a neuro exam, by someone who is medically qualified asap. Unfortunately on a Saturday night this means A&E, but as he's offline I'm hoping it means he's on his way there as we speak.
-
Sorry about your accident bricey. As the accident happened at work i hope you filled in your companies accident book.If your company doesn't have one they could be in trouble with the Health and Safety Executive. If you did fill in the accident book it will help if you need to make a claim in the future.Alot of companies disregard H & S at work and if your company try to dismiss you due to you not being able to forfill your job description, then go straight to CAB as you could take them to an Industrial Tribunal for wrongful dismissal.
Sorry its not the medical advice you are after but a little bit of legal advice for you to consider.
All the best mate.
Rob

right well back from a&e,
had a brief examination and thhe doc has said i could be suffering from a
intervertebral disc prolapse,
he has given me a letter to give to my gp 1st thing monday morning so i can be booked in for an mri scan as soon as possible...
i wonder how long that waiting list is lol
-
James you clown lol. As above make sure it's in the accident book at work mate. Backs are never good to damage, and ffs leave off the painkillers unless you've been given them, my mate did the same thing as you and just took them to mask the pain and ended up doing more damage. Thankfully it wasn't permanent
-
Glad you've been seen so quickly. MRI scan should be pretty quick depending on where you are. A disc prolapse is something that needs imaging to confirm. Just a heads up, but expect your GP to advise taking time off from Mon onwards. Did they give you any medication?
-
no they didnt give me any meds just said to keep with the paramol and paracetamol.
-
no they didnt give me any meds just said to keep with the paramol and paracetamol.
Fair enough. Please don't feel like you've wasted your time. A disc prolapse can lead to some serious problems with the nerves that travel down to your legs. With you having pins and needles, it suggested that the disc was compressing one of the nerves that exits your spinal cord in between each segment of your vertebrae. That needs a medical assessment, not just a few words of advice from a forum.
Hopefully your MRI will be pretty quick. As they haven't admitted you, then I expect the GP will recommend time off work, plus possibly prescribing you some painkillers that are a bit more effective than just paracetamol. Medium-term, rest and some physio are probably likely. You defo did the right thing getting in the loop tonight.
-
i cant thank you and the others enough for your help-thanks
was nebt to be going on a 4day piss up golfing sociaty mid sept if i cant swing a club
it will be the most expensive weekend i have paid for drinking wise lol
-
Just make sure you follow the advice you get from the professionals you see. First up is that GP appt on Monday morning - make sure you let the receptionist know you have a letter from local A&E recommending an MRI scan. You need to see a GP on Mon to get into the secondary care loop - don't let them fob you off :)
-
Nuramol are pretty good mate
Your docs based at Dower House or the one up West Street?
-
my doc's is carrisbrook med centre no idea what road that is lol
-

I fücked my back because I didn't seek medical advice soon enough after injuring myself and now I'm set for a lifetime of problems.
Health is serious shït, back injuries can change your life if you piss about for too long letting it deteriorate.
-
Yes defo dont let them fob you off i had a slipped disc when i was 22 took nearly a year or going back to the doctors getting painkillers having physio being told it wasn't a slipped disc for it not to get better. I demanded an xray in the end (wished i had done it a lot sooner)staight after the xray i was told to go for an MRI, 3 weeks later i had and operation. This was 17 years ago so i hope they are a little better for you as hopefully our NHS has improved in that time !

Typical fob off ! If you don't see any improvement demand an xray  don't take no for an answer as GP's are bloody clueless !
-
The usual treatment plan you'll get from your GP for mechanical lower back pain is rest, pain relief and physio if required. You've already found out over the past fortnight that it won't get better by itself, so try and take it easy (but don't completely immobilise yourself) and follow what the GP said. If the pain gets worse/spreads/numbness or tingling returns, then get yourself back there asap.
Naproxen is a drug that is used to relieve pain and reduce inflammation, and will be much better than paracetamol, so hopefully should make a difference.
-
so...
6-8 weeks later
the neproxen didnt work and proved to be a pointless excersize for me,and went back to
the doc's,(still not had an MRI).
the pain is as bad as it was and the doc has referred me to a physiotherapist and im half was through a 6week waiting period untill
my appointment.
if this dosnt work the next step is aprrently the spinal clinic....
so pain is at a high, waking up in the night due to pain is almost every f**king night
and not no posistion i sit in is comfy, thoroughly pissed off.
-
Doesent sound good. hopefully the physio therayp will sort you out.
-
Depending on the area, some NHS physios are really time restricted so you wait ages for instructions on how to do the exercises. Have you thought about private physio?

big bucks?

About £50-60 per go, I think. Depends on what needs doing etc.
It's gotta be better than waiting around.

obviously i didnt ask enough Q's when i was there but im back there next thurs,
he reckons its treatable with an excersize he has given me to do,but will see if it actually is.
