Would be good to know what history it has to back up the mileage :undecided:
-
Only 3 owners at that age is a good sign, and if its been looked after it should have p/work to support this.
-
Am I tempted?
You bet your ass's I am

Won't have power steering unless it was specified as an option. Our J reg GTD doesn't have it. In fact they're basically driver spec, so don't expect much luxury. But before I faffed around making ours give you whiplash, it did 70mpg  But in answer to your question, yea its a reasonable price if it really is in good condition. Good unmolested GTDs are rare as rocking horse poo, most are rotten and used as workhorses. I paid less than half that for ours with 218k on it at the time, and quite a bit of TnT, although the shell is full of holes :embarassed:

How do you make a GTD give you whiplash?
Also what's the standard specs/0-60?
-
80bhp standard, not sure on the 0-60, but they're about on par with a 1.8 carb model in performance. Not had ours rolling roaded but I estimate its running about 120bhp now, and it only cost me about £45 to get it there! Its easily quicker than any of the 8v GTI's I've ever had, still does 50mpg+ and it will run on veg oil happily. I fitted a manual boost controller, blocked the overboost protector off, modified the injection pump governor, wound in the max fuel screw, and fitted a boost guage. Now runs 22psi and has done with no probs for about 6k miles, apart from the crank seal pissing oil out, but thats just wear and tear. I've also relocated the intercooler to behind the grille, however its missing the passenger side spot light as it leaves a big hole in the grille for lots of cold air to pass through the intercooler
-
I can vouch for it being quick for derv too as i got the wonderful task of stripping the diesel pump with him
-
It is indeed very quick for what it is. It makes you forget its only a 1.6, and another plus side is insurance is cheaper than a GTI too. Ours is on 221k and apart from the crank seal its been 100% reliable.
