was down at a friends in tottenham last night in downhills park area which is about half a mile from the riot, and couldnt understand why the helicopter was overhead for hours, bloody thing was making a right racket. it was only when i got home at 3am that i clocked the news.
from what i understand from news reports at 3am the riot kicked off when allegedly the police batoned a 16 yo girl who was shouting at them, this was after the peaceful protest outside tottenham nick, the alleged batoning was the last straw after the protesters were ignored by senior police officers. the protestors had wanted a senior officer to come out and talk to them, but the police ignored them and let them stew for hours.
the protest was in reaction to the shooting of mark duggan on thurs night by members of operation trident.

i think the rioters are morons they have managed to make families homeless and ruined businesses with the possible loss of jobs and local revenue. and to protest about a shooting when the facts or circumstances are not known is stupidity especially when you see the pic of mark duggan in his gangsta pose.
again the rioters see to be composed of chav scum of all ages just looking for an opportunity for mindless violence, i do so hope they get their comeuppance
@ houston i would rather live in a burned out tottenham than the a4sehole of the universe that is south shields

Which points towards that the police may still selling the media information.

I love how friends, family and his girlfriend, all say he was a good lad , would hurt no one and no one knew he was in trouble..

Guess all good lads travel round with a gun and shoot at police.

One less scum on our streets...as for last night..was disgraceful and shows how stupid those morons were. Smashing up the area you live, burning down the shops were friends/family members rely on, work in. Made local people homeless, from the houses being burnt.

Then of course the funniest thing of all...moaning about the police always picking on them, searching them, accusing of them being criminals...the same people who spend all night stealing from shops and mugging news crews.

I would let them live in the sh!t they have caused now.

They should clean out Kensington on mass, surely a nice Breitling or TAG would be better than a £100 pair of pumps? or wreck the parliament building, but smashing up their own places is just nuts.

The government should do a sectret deal with microsoft, so they could offer a free week of XBOX 360 gaming.  I reckon the stretts would soon be be quiet.

I despair at the level of people we are breeding in this country, this is just down right rude.
We will all pay in civil liberties as well as money.

If you carry a gun replica or otherwise you should get life, if you carry a knife as a weapon you should get 10 years.

If you get shot in possesion then that is tough, lets just hope the Police have not fcked this up and shot a guy with a table leg again.......

William Burroughs anyone?

This guy recording currys being looted asked one of the kids looting why he was doing it, the reply was "I'm getting my taxes back, I'm getting my taxes back!". He sounded about 12, doubt he even pays tax. Even if he was over 18, if you're on jobseekers allowance you don't pay tax do you? Its shocking... I feel like the country has gone mad. I'm all for "freedom of speech" but there is a way of approaching people for answers and the riots that are happening in parts of London at the moment certainly aren,t the right way to go about it. There are also crowds of spectators gathering to watch the meaningless violence... If i lived anywhere near there i'd be taking a vacation far, far away from the trouble, not seeking it out.   Its crazy!!!!!

Croydon has been fun. I had to rescue my mrs as the riot police cut them off so she couldnt walk back. If any of you have watched sky new, that burning building in croydon is 1 minute from me. I saw them smash the windows and start setting it on fire!

Best buy is fecked, people walking down by me with TV's taken straight off the walls, imacs, ipads etc etc

There was a row of car queuing up to pick people up from best buy to load the cars up. Saw someone steel a car so they could load it with goods!

The London Olympic torch seems to be going all over the place. We got long jumpers, high jumpers, 100/400 metre runners (carrying 42" plasma's, how good is that?), javelin and shot putters caning all the windows.

The Brits will win everything, no probs.

THIS IS FUC'KED UP!!!

i work in surrey quays/bermondsey delivering the daily mail, so i work nights. all i could hear was all these little yob, no good sh1t head sh1t cnuts breaking into decathlon which is just over the security fence from us.

to top it all off my delivery run was to croydon of all places, so i had the joy at 2am this morning driving through elephant and castle, which was not too bad, then walworth getting worse, camberwell even worse, brixton was fubar and then i get to norbury, pretty much every shop was smashed and i even saw a car which was used to ram raid a cash converters.

all this has gone beyond a joke! like most of you have said, one little f**kker that thinks he can have a gun in his posession and not surrender it wont get shot? how very wrong they are. i watched an interview with his wife saying if he really did have a gun why didnt they shoot him in the hand to disarm him? well i can answer this one as i am ex-forces, firstly the rifles the police use do not have the best sights in the world, secondly to hit a mans hand when wielding a weapon from a distance and front on is a stupid thing to think of, bullet hits hand hand pulls trigger. and thirdly the bloke was scum

you know what i want the military deployed, i might get called back up so bring it on! these little w@nkers need sortin out, or shootin.

This whole thing kicked off when a guy who was described as a "good lad" and "friendly" was shot by police because he was shooting his gun. Now the rest of the country's mugs and G's are using it as an excuse to loot and have "fun" in their own ways.

It's just a shame the police here in the UK have limited power and the country's leaders are too wimp to do anything about it. If this was elsewhere the police would have been firing away rubber bullets on the first night and taken control of the streets. This is what you get for cutting the police budget and giving half of them the boot. You get streets being unable to be controlled due to police being outnumbered 10:1. Bravo Mr Cameron, Bravo.

My younger brother (19) gets back today for RnR from Afghan today after serving nearly 5 months with 42 Commando, he is a brave man. What are these pathetic rioters doing for a living? Oh yea, and what are their reasons for rioting? Bet you none of them could tell why they are actually smashing up buses setting fire to buildings. The Gvt needs to do something very quick!

There was a bit in Oxford last night (though the police are saying it's got nothing to do with the London Riots... the London riots have nothing to do with the London riots or anything else other than stupidity), the dumb f**k*rs tried petrol bombing a McDonalds which failed - where they hell would they get their next meal?! retards.

I bloody well hope the government pass an emergency law to deal with violent spontaneous riots and give the police the ability to deal with them in anyway they see fit. All this PC nonsense needs to stop. Anyone out on the street amongst the rioters should be dealt with as a rioter, any non-rioters should avoid the areas effected and take cover anywhere possible.

A customer has gone out on the streets to film this (they're a media, film & production company) and are staying behind the police cordons and have seen other journo's getting rioters to throw bricks and rocks for footage, sickening and just as bad as the voicemail hacking tw@ts.

One of my South African friends said on FB this morning the UK should draft in the South African Police service... I actually agree, they deal with riots very quickly with little regard for their own safety ... or the safety of the rioters.

Mate, I think it goes a lot deeper and a lot further back than david cameron!

It don't help that were signed upto that stupid fackin euro zone, and let them dictate to us how we can police etc etc! That should be done in house as this is the only place that knows how this country runs!  And it don't help when euro tell us how many immigrants we have to allow through our borders each yeah! We should tell euro to do one, lock all borders down and crack down on it!

Personally, you want someone to blame, best be looking at tony blair and gordon brown as they signed us into this sh1t!

And at least we havnt got Euros here!
Thank f**K for that!

really? that far back? no wonder that escaped my knowledge as i werent even a twinkle in me old mans eyes lol. surely it got progressivly worse through labour though?

just been listening to LBC and Boris johnson been giving an interview and all you could hear is people in the background shouting we want labour? only reason i can think they want this is because people on the doll were getting more through them useless wasters

yeah thank fook we aint got euros! but we need out of it totally!

on another note, my missus is working in bromley and they aint even sent her home yet. i dont care that i have to work tonight and again delivering to croydon as im driving a 26t truck so i have a bit of defence, but i just need to make sure she is home and ok.

i know the police wont condone it but i do think people need to rally together and go and sort this out ourselves! it may be classed as vigilanteism but seriously when is this gonna stop if we keep going the way we are??

rubber bullets tonight! Yeah baby. that's what I'm talking about.

There was an interview where an ex-police chief said that the police were being criticised for being too heavy handed at the G20 demonstration and now are being criticised for being too soft and that the police need to be be told to act one way or the other.

Well I disagree with him completely as the situations are completely different. In the case of the G20 demonstration the majority of the people attending were peaceful and was enacting their freedom of speech.

In the last few days the people looting and rioting are scumbags and need to be shot.

Simples. Use your common sense.

im not understanding how the media are claiming that the instigators of all this are "untraceable" because they use BlackBerry Messenger....odds are that everyone with a blackberry has registered it to use the app store, so all the BB Pins are totally traceable...

most of the BlackBerrys will be on contract anyway, and i know for a fact that network carriers keep a note of the PIN and who has the blackberry.

Anyway, i was thinking, what with all these cars getting destroyed and heavily damaged, theres gonna be a whole load of insurance claims, which means insurance companies are going to be paying out a whole load of cash...so what possible side effects could this have on insurance prices in general??

The media are being douche bags and trying to scare monger people, that or lure the crimz into thinking they won't get caught and carry on using BBM so the police can gather loads of evidence

I seriously hope they're allowed to use rubber bullets tonight, show the f**k*rs from pain for all the pain they've inflicted on innocent people.

I think the Met should be able to take the lead WITHOUT politicians giving the go ahead on the use of rubber bullets, tear gas or water cannons. They should have the authority to act as and where neccesary

The Thames Valley police are on stand-by to assist in London or other areas, there were 4 incidents in Oxford last night 1 person arrested who is thought to be behind all 4, also rumours that it's going to kick off in Oxfordshire/South Oxford tonight...

Must admit i don't appreciate comments like this.... i live in a council house, i am also a single mother of 2. I have worked since i was 13 years old starting off as a saturday girl in my local newsagents and now i work in a school... I am a Teaching Assistant and i also run a cheerleading and dance club... At the moment i am also studying at the open university to get a degree. What i'm trying to say is that sometimes where you are born and circumstance contribute to where you end up living... I am totally against all of the rioting and don't think that everyone who lives on a council estate should be stereotyped as losers and doleys who have a wardrobe full of tracksuits and more kids than captain vontrap!!!!

Stereotyping is a big problem, people tend to see everyone in a certain group to be the same.
The question is, what drives so many people to behave like this?

As i said previously i work with children and i have said for sometime now that the biggest problem with most children today is that they are spoon fed crap from their parents from a young age and we live in a society of young people who think they should be able to get "something for nothing" I personally don't understand this beleif that its ok to sit back and let others do all the work while they reep the rewards, but its there all the same. And i don't believe that all young people are the same but the problem may be that the majority think this way.
Lets face it since Cameron came into power cuts have been made everywhere, health service, schools, police force and even the armed forces... People are being told they must work for longer therefore there aren't as many GOOD jobs for the next generation of academics coming through college and uni etc... These young adults spend so many years dedicated to their studies only to find that they have to get a job in their local mcdonalds because there is nothing else out there.. Taxes have been increased as has the cost of living and yet most people have seen no difference in their wage slip this year.. Britain has fallen on very hard times and us British are well known for our ability to complain when we aren't happy about something so maybe these youngsters have given up all hope of ever being able to make something of their lives... Again i cannot stress enough how disgusted it makes me to see the scenes i have on the news over the past few days but i'm just trying to make sense of what seems like senseless acts of violence

Its like 1980's Britain all over again. What drives the rioting? i don't believe all of it is just mindless violence.
The conservatives are cutting very quick and very deep, the people at the bottom are bearing the brunt.
Still no excuse for the violence.

kellywild i agree with you about council tenants, most of the tenants i visit on a day to day basis are hard working and just getting by like most of us.

the problem with the youths and other  scum doing this is they have no sense of society and decency, people can bleat on about the youths lack of opportunity and prospects but that is utter nonsence, most of it is down to parenting and the values you gain from good parents.

if your parents have a dole scrounging dont give a stuff attitude then its only natural youngsters are going to emulate what they have learned from their own blood, if you add in these feral scum putting peer pressure on their more gullible mates and the fact they feel untouchable and the lack of any real punishments then they will run riot to get what they cant get thru normal hard work.

lack of true physical discipline in schools at a secondary school stage has been the major underlying factor in where we are today. you always used to get the hardnuts that would take any punishment but the majority would toe the line thru fear of pain, now there is no fear of physical hurt
the idiots that have been on the news demanding respect from adults and police sum it all up really.
respect, as i was taught, was always earned thru your actions and how you treat people around you.

yesterday i was in a flat changing a meter listening to 2 chav scum laughing about what had happened over the weekend while smoking dope, it honestly took all my willpower to not react to them and threaten them with a pipe wrench just to see them in fear

I live way down in the West Country and I grew up in the '80s when Thatcher was cutting everything like Cameron et al are doing now.
There were riots in Bristol, Liverpool and London back then which were politically motivated and these started to spread around the country. Even the local housing estate kids around where I live were talking about starting riots in sleepy Devon. The same thing is happening all around the country now and the kids didn't have mobile phones and the internet back then.
The initial unrest may be politically or socially motivated but once it gets going and becomes national news people just get caught up in the excietment of it all and all the youngersters around the country want a bit of the action and it spreads a bit like a fever. It makes me smile to think those out on the streets now are probably the feral kids of the feral scum that rioted in the 80s. Nothing changes but the dates.

Its the old nature vs nurture arguement i suppose... I grew up in a violent home where my mother was an alcoholic... I had 1 younger sister and 2 younger brothers... £ of us are upstanding citizens and have never been in trouble a single day in our lives... We have good jobs and have chosen to learn a good lesson from our negative experiences... My youngest brother however decided to blame the whole world for everything that as ever gone wrong in his life and it wouldn't surprize me if i turned on the t.v tomoro to see images of him on my t.v screen... it goes without saying that none of us think much of his choices or his perspective on life but it does leave you with the question why wwe turned out ok and he didn't????  :undecided: its a mystery... Alll i know is that i can't see any positive outcome from all this violence it needs to be stopped... And quickly!!!!! By whatever means necassary

Keep going lads, the more you burn the more we all will lose our civil liberties.......
What new powers are going to get pushed through on this I wonder?
Sure thing is my taxes will pay for this and the golf will cost more to insure next year.

I grew up in Clapham Junction on an estate in the 70's/80's when we had riots and crime galore, its taken years to get better to build relations, and for people like me to do well and get on the ladder.
in the last 5 years things have started to degenerate to this, cant say why but we need to find out.
what has happened though is out of order with no excuse.

Lets not forget that the guy had a gun, we all know what they are used for.
it cant be used to kill a passer by like that boy in liverpool, or that girl in stockwell, we cant allow weapons on our streets.
Its sad, but dont carry guns girls and boys

It takes a fool to loot and set fire to buildings, and not give a sh!t about scared families, local shops etc. All sparked off by one event which almost all of the rioters were not affected by in the first place. Half of those twits probably never voted, and the second half were on the rob anyway and have always claimed benefits. One of the main causes of financial strain in England

England has become a joke..

they're the same petty criminals that mug old ladies, they're only doing it because there is loads of them and it's being organised and they've (the organisers) have managed to stay a step ahead of the police for now.

Yes the rioters are causing the trouble.
But why are thousands of people going out looting and setting fire to buildings?
Its not really something most people wake up in the morning and decide to do

they're the same petty criminals that mug old ladies, they're only doing it because there is loads of them and it's being organised and they've (the organisers) have managed to stay a step ahead of the police for now.

I can't believe that. Its literally thousands of rioters, i can't believe there are that many people out there that would mug old ladies.
I think its down to desperation, most these people have got nothing to lose, and others just jump on the bandwagon.
Like i said before, its like the 1980's all over again

It's also a bunch of tossers riding on the band wagon wanting free TV's and seeing an opportunity to get one.

It's not politically motivated, lots of these scum bags do have jobs, families, girl friends and lives (see John Briggs above) yet they still go out and do this?

Opportunistic thuggery. Nothing more, nothing less. Not everyone has an agenda. Opportunistic c@nts.

I don't agree.
I think it started out as a political protest, as alot people are really feels the cuts. But then it gets way out of hand, and other idiots join in.
I completely condemn the violence. However society has created this underclass, and they are now attacking us.
You can't just put it down to opportunist thuggery, there are thousands out on the street causing trouble.
The problem is no-one gives a sh!t anymore, unless it involves themselves, as long as I am ok mentality.
The current government's policies are creating even bigger problems. The disaffected people will fight back, as they no longer have anything to lose.
I expect it will get much worse. The only thing us ordinary people can do is take matters into our own hands.

I don't agree.

We'll have to agree to disagree. It was never a political protest, it started out as a peaceful gathering outside a police station and then a rumour spread about a police man beating a 16yr old girl with a baton which sparked everything off. Reading Twitter over the last few days it seems the disaffected muslims are out to get their revenge on western society, that's the best answer I can find for now. Well that and they're cnuts looking for a freebie ride to get gadgets and burn sh!t.

from my point of view, I think it's been building up for over a decade (from 97 to present). The credit boom where people were encouraged to spend and spend and not really worry about the consequences. Therefore a materialistic society grew up wanting the next shiny thing however not everyone could afford to buy the shiny thing so they decided to steal them. An example of this is the ipod boom. When they first became popular around 2003/2004 there were numerous reports of kids mugging people for the stupid things. There are still reports of kids mugging people for their iphones.

This materialistic culture then hits the rocks with the credit crunch (2007/2008) and alot of people are up sh!t creek with shed load of debt/negative equity. Then comes the increases in prices for gas, electricity, water, bread, milk, the basic stuff that you need to live on.

People feel like they are being robbed by the big conglomerates who keep posting multi-billion pound profits but still increase the price of their products (yes I am looking at you Shell, BP and British Gas).

And the government then announces the "austerity" measures where taxes go up, services are cut and again people feel robbed by the government.

Any wonder why there are riots?

I posted a simalar arguement yesterday on this thread so i completely agree... We are living in a society of people who also want something for nothing and the riots are good way to enforce this beleif!!!!

And the government then announces the "austerity" measures where taxes go up, services are cut and again people feel robbed by the government.

Any wonder why there are riots?

I totally agree I wrote a post pretty much saying the same thing yesterday... We live in a society of young people who want something for nothing and the riots are a perfect excuse for them to excersize that beleif!!!!

I like that the sway of the media has taken effect again.

Whilst rioting

"throw the book at them, harsh sentences for these yobs" ... blah blah blah

Post rioting

"Harsh sentences are too much for these rioters"

f**k em, they chose to riot no one made them. Stick them on a plane, fly half way to america then perform an emergency depressurisation at 37000ft. If they can float back to the UK they can have a reduced sentence. If not, oh well. Wnakers.
Title: Re: Day 4 of the Riots, map on page 1 of the Hot Spots!
Post by: Jack3559 on 17 August 2011, 16:19
Agreed.

It's more the fact that they were all so brazen, convinced that they were untouchable and that they wouldn't be punished. That's the mentality that needs to be challenged and the best way of doing is definitely to test their floating abilities.

Agreed with slick. Was having this debate at work today and everyone was saying 4 years was too much for organizing a riot. They should be thankful I'm not the king of the UK otherwise I'd have them on death penalty!
Title: Re: Day 4 of the Riots, map on page 1 of the Hot Spots!
Post by: Guy on 17 August 2011, 21:47
i agree with 4 years being a suitable sentence... if i am correct I think someone else in the country got off with a stern ticking off for the same charge... each case is individual and all that but I think sentencing should be consistent.. and harsh.

imagine if the riot that they were trying to organise HAD kicked off... and someones business had been burned to the ground.. or someone had died.

its inexcusable and perhaps those that were 'trying to reclaim their taxes'  should have used one of their two brain cells to think about the consequences of their actions... a nice long stint with Bubba should make them think twice next time.

although they will probably have a playstation, tv, day trips out and 3 square meals a day..
