Over the last couple of months I have noticed a knocking noise coming from the engine area whilst reversing. I took it to a garage today as it needed a new tyre and they stated the knocking noise is down to the drive shaft.
I was unable to get a quote and was wondering what sort of price am I looking at to get a new driveshaft fitted?
Thanks
Luke

do the driveshaft yourself, it aint that hard. the hardest thing is getting the shaft out at the hub end.
and if i get my conversion done in next couple of weeks ill have some for ya

Will do mate!!

You might not need a driveshaft, if it is a cv joint knocking then just replace the joint.
-
yep make sure it aint a cv

Thanks guys, will have a look at the cv joint

Check there are no splits or tears, and check its not cracking. Check the banding both sides of the CV boot (metal ring holding it on), and that you cannot see grease escaping from anywhere (grease is packed inside the CV boot). There are inner and outer CV boots, inner ones are gearbox end, outer ones are hub end.

cheers sean will have a gander tomoz as its definately coming from around the gearbox area ,hmmmmmm hopefully that and not gearbox lol

unless its been split for some time then you wont see any grease escaping as what happened to me, but you will see all the grease around the inside of your wheel  and its a biatch when you dont know its there and then your covered in it!!!
but if it is your cv they are a piece of piss to replace

Cant say for certain, cos I've never actually replaced one , but if its an outer, it may be easier to remove the driveshaft from the gearbox side, and slide it along after cutting the old one off. Saves pulling it from the hub as I've heard its a pain in the arse!. There are 6 M8 multi spline/Allbit bolts that hold them on. If you dont have one, try fleabay as I managed to pick a set up for 7 quid, so much cheaper than Halfrauds who who want about £30!
