Sounds nice - I love the 140 PD engine
Sorry for asking but when you say "see what they offer me" what are you PXing or did you mean the deal?

I've got no plans to cross to the dark side either
It was a Diesel a 140 S-Line 2.0 TDI
Tidy car, body work great next to no stone chips etc , full leather interior, 60k, 3 owners, full aldi SH
Was a very nice place to be i must say, went up there to generally check it out and see what they would offer me
My heads in a right pickle!

I dont know what to say mk2 ownership has worn me out :embarassed: and as much as i do love the car i need some thing reliable and better on fuel and cheaper to insure etc etc and the A3 ticks all the boxes
Remember Mk2 f***s up you can probably fix it,cheaply and quickly with an Audi you won't!
i appreciate what your saying guys and i know from owning my miv 1.8t and the r32 the cost involved but its the overall package, the garage have said teh cambelt has recently been done so ill be checking that out
joe- you are crazy in my opinion, lot cheaper reliable cars out there
but hey, long time dead, just ask amy whingehouse
a lot of cash for what is a sensible daily commuter joe, nothing more,
you could get that for half ya current budget :lipsrsealed:
And might have someone who wants my mk2 as well so overall I think im going to be looking around and see what is the best solution overall for me :)
What's going on with this place!

I still own mine.
You not allowed to say the words MK2 and reliable in the same sentence when Stink is about.
I still own mine.
That's because you're cool!

Dunno what it is with Audi's. I viewed one the other day that looked fantastic on paper, great price too. Took it out and it just didn't have the power I'd expect from a 1.9TDI 130. Full service history, yet I still think the turbo was on it's way out.
Dunno, sounds like the car for you.
Reliable cars make for dull posting, which is no good for the rest of us.
your mad joe, the end.

Was that the old shape A3?

the 140 2.0 TDI really did have a good bit of poke to it
VAG are unreliable mate.
The new audi's lack that wow factor.
golf mk5 2.0 tdi is the car you need

If you want crappy build quality and fat arsed looks. Look horrible
The MK5 2.0 GTTDI Sport has a nice(ish) front end, 170Bhpz and good mpgz.

The 170 is not as frugal as it makes out to be :lipsrsealed:
For your budget Joe look at the Cupra as you'll get more car for your money.
MK5 is a cheap and nasty place to sit
Quite a discussion this has sparked! Well I am open to looking at other options out there :)

have to disagree with you there. I would argue that the A3 has a shocking ride quality compared to the mk5. Not only that but for its age the MK5 has a relatively nice interior...
where as the A3 has... well the same regurgitated interior every audi has. In fact it even has some of the cheaper bits and bobs from its better looking cousin.... yes the MK5!!
The MK5 interior is worse than the MK4 interior in terms of quality. The A3 interior is a much nicer place to be

Bloke in work reckons his mk6's interior is worse than his old mk4. Infact everything on the car is worse and he wont be getting another new vw again :lipsrsealed:
Well the 140 I drove today was full leather, and it was such a nice place to be and I didn't find the ride bad at all but mind you the mk2 is lowered 40mm and you feel every bump in the road. I would prefer a audi and esp after today actually driving one it was awesome.
Mpg is important and I'd say the max I'd be prepared to pay is 7k but ideally anything less than that! But ill continue my search and see what I come across.
I dont buy into the mk4 interior being better than the MK5 though... it looks like and old passat inside :lipsrsealed:
I got a nice car for you!! Wont get much better mpg than the R32... but it does shift
MPS anyone

For the money you get a cracking car
1.4 tdi 3-pot Polo 6n2
i rolled thru 300 miles and not hit half a tank yet
tank only costs ~£55 to fill up too
get a spanking one for £2k
Much as I agree with DH and Chuff I can't see Joe rolling in TDI polo as his only car.For that money he can roll in the polo during the week and keep the 2 as a toy forthe weekends
Nick
I still own mine.

I still own mine and I am not cool.

The last time I heard someone being referred as "cool" I was watching Happy Days.
Ayyye!
Do it mate I love my 140.. It's not exactly fast but I didn't expect it to be and after a remap will be a lot better and even with coilovers fully wound down it's still pretty comfy and it's only got teething problems at 133k.. And the dsg box is so comfy for driving in traffic and such..
With regards to the cylinder head problem I know a lot seemed to have suffered but mines been fine and no history of having it changed from Audi and mines on a 04 plate..
Good luck with the choice

THIS
I FCUKING LOVE DIESELS !!!!
That's a downside to modern diesels at the moment, a lot of clocking is going on. Many people over here have been caught out by it.
This buying a new car lark is bloody hard work!! ]Okay how did the DVLAmiss this then? Thought that this was the point of the recorded mileage on the MOT non?
Have viewed 4 now and all seem to have problems!
Drove a very nice one yesterday thought everything was awesoem, then checked the VOSA MOT site and the car had some how had 2 MOT's in 2010 on on the 15/05/1o : 108,000 and then 01/07/2011? and gone down to 97,113? lost 13k off the clock somehow!!

Shame buddy but at least you ain't getting stung like some poor bugger will
108k down to 97.1k is not a 13k loss.
Anyway, at least you've caught the rubbish before it's too late.
Have to admit I was tempted by a Octavia VRS 170 Diesel I saw recently, it was an estate too, so ultra practical family wagon, economical and fun.
For a daily, a diseasal can't be beat.
Sad but true.
I would rather spend more and be happy with a petrol than get a diesel and log my mpg every time i drive it :nerd:
Unless you are happy to spend the money on petrol then i disagree.

I'd rather spank the backside off my diesel and find it's still returned +35MPG. Last time I spanked a Golf6 GTI it returned 16MPG......
