Im wondering if my mk6 GTI has now had an ECU update after it went in the last time to attempt at fixing the interior rattles as the power delivery seems different from what i remember. Or maybe theres an issue :undecided: or i remember it wrong?
Maual gearbox:
If im in 3rd gear at 30mph and put my foot down to the floor.
There is a hickup for about 0.5 seconds (feels like a cut in power), then the power comes in.
Then when it gets to 3500rpm it seems to come in harder again.
Im sure it was very smooth power delivery before with no hickup or extra pull at 3.5K. :undecided: Maybe i just remember it wrong. (problem with using so many other cars daily)
Maybe mines started to suffer the mk6 famous fuel pump fail? Or it was just remapped by VW? or its just changed with more miles been on the clock.
Hows your power delivery with the OEM map? :undecided:
-
My only recall of a standard one is a very linear power delivery. Too linear and dull for me, but my biggest gripe was the fact the throttle pedal had to be moved half an inch before the car did anything which it a bit sh!te when you're used to normally aspirated old cars.
But I didn't realise mk6s suffer from fuel pump failure  I thought that was just mk5s and that mk6s had uprated pumps (hence one of the reasons they re-map better).
Bloody hell.

Totally agree with this
The fuel pump in the mk6 is different from that in the mk5... the new one doesnt suffer from failure as the old one did.
Like i thought i posted this is similar to the way my car behaved before the problems :lipsrsealed:
Get you plugs and coils checked.. and dont rest until the problem is sorted

Fuel pumps are failing on the mk6 GTI's. I have read two instances from Dubai and many instances from America of 2010-2011 cars fuel pump failing.
"They said it was the fuel pump but it will be Monday before they get one in... Also said they replaced 15 of them in last 2 weeks in all models of VW."

Snoops: Tried to replicate the 3rd gear hiccup this morning. Very smooth power delivery in all gears.

Im not ruling out the fuel pump... but 99% of the time VW are happy to let the computer tell them what to do.
I had to get mine on a rolling road... within the 1minute the mechanic was able to tell me what was wrong... i then told VW and they agreed. :lipsrsealed:
Hope the fuel pump gets it sorted
p.s. the fuel in the states is of such poor quality no wonder the pumps are having to work so hard

Shame mine did not hickup earlier and i could have put my name down for the PDtuning rolling road day thats on saturday in Newcastle.

Still worth getting down to a reliable independent with a rolling road to check everything is running as should be. I would now possibly wait until after new pump has gone in.
The guys I went to see dont massage the figures.. its virtually on the button figures everytime. Worth taking time out to find someone with a similar attitude to RR's. Doc has one and would imagine a good place to start

The guys at PDT are similar i think from what i read, they are very active on the other forum and don't mince there words about 'other' rolling road sessions and other make dynos.
What it feels like is like an old vauxhall nova 1.3 with twin webber 40 carbs on. If you don't feed in the throttle it floods, pauses, then its away then once the fueling is right ie ~3.5K its away again.
I wonder if theres anything i could log with VCDS?
-
I would say yes... worth a try.
do as much as you can before you let the monkeys loose

IMHO
A rolling road day isn't the best way of diagnosing your fault mate, ask them if they'll do you a diagnostics session where they can take their time and load your engine on the dyno at the exact point the problem is occouring whilst data logging via obd.
I have a loaner obd data logger you can borrow if you wish, it's small and can hold plenty of data
I can expand on the above when in back in the UK on Friday.
