Good old shove it! My dad had 2 of those. red Hatch then blue estate. they didn't rust much! :lipsrsealed:

Lada riva 1300 - was the family car for many years. I got plenty of stick at school!
-
My dad's red 3 door VW Polo
Then he had a black MK2  Was only the 1.3 though
-
Haha good thread!!
The first car I remember being in was my dad's custard cream coloured Lada. I remember it had a tartan travel rug over the back seat and once we were driving down to Wales late at night and a massive rock smashed a huge hole in the windscreen. In those days before mobile phones and breakdown cover we had to just carry on driving. Never been so cold!
The second car I remember was his wonderful black Capri. I have love Capris ever since, I was so sad when he sold it to purchase his (again custard cream coloured, but with a brown roof) Jag XJ6 (which was pretty cool actually, it had that wonderful old musty leather smell inside. Well I love that smell anyway).
At some point I vaguely remember a Chevette also, it was blue, possibly at the same time as the Capri or slightly before, not sure.
-
circa 1930's Morris 7
Then a Morris 8 Series E
Then a 1954 Vauxhall Velox
Then a 1964 Vauxhall Victor APN 490B first car I drove on the road.
-
Would have been either my uncle's Beetle or my grandfathers car which I can remember what it was like inside but can't remember what it was :undecided:
-
Mine was a Baby Blue VW beetle that my dad had
-
Would be one of these badboys:
-
My grandad's mk2 Jetta. I remember dad having a Volvo of some kind but don't remember being in it.
-
Mine was a Baby Blue VW beetle that my dad had
My aunts (twins) had a beetle each in that same colour, and they lived across the street from eachother  Good colour, too.
-
A grey Mini 1000, my Dad used to put me in my car seat and then take part in grass tracking and time trials, no wonder I grew up to love cars
-
(http://www.virginmedia.com/images/car_4_Morris-Marina-431x300.jpg)
This was the first I remember, then a mk1 fiesta shortly after that a 1.1 popular plus.

Was a ace colour yeah, i seen a mk1 someone posted up on here a bit back re sprayed in the very colour
My Dads was a old M or N reg i think (cant quite remember) he had a green one before that although i cant remember it
the Blue one was eventually sent to the sky i think because it rusted on its chassis, either that or the garage ripped my dad off lol!!
he had a Austin allegro after that and that wasa horific car
-
Beetles do like the tin worm, my mothers was held together by fibre glass by the time she sold it and f@cking scary being in the passenger seat sitting on top of what was effectively rust and wobbly fibre glass
-
first I remember was a nearly new Allegro estate! it had all the options including seat belts, heated rear screen, fm radio and vynil seats (that were great In summer!!)
-
I'm not 100% sure but it was either my dads purple mk1 escort with flared arches or my mums black mini cooper....which I was strapped into my childseat in the rear when she collided with a wooden telephone pole due to been cut up by some prick in a builders delivery lorry. I think I was about 3 or 4 then and she's never driven since.

VDL 35S in dark blue, owned from new by my parents. 3500S model and very fine, too.
I remember listening to Blondie Parallel Lines on the cassette player (I can tell you're impressed), sitting outside what's now SCATS in Blackwater on the IOW.
My Grandma had a Mini 850, slightly older, in the same blue and with beige leg-burning vinyl seats.

my dad had one of these (did they do a V8 version as I seem to remember a V8 badge on the back).. unfortunately the colour was a putrid puke green the same as this emoticon
he wrote it off by driving into a ditch and ending upside down after an office party... yes he was and he got a 12 month ban, served him right too

3500S = 3.5 V8
Ours lasted until 1986, when a coach driver smashed into it, shoving it backwards into a hedge very hard. I was the front seat passenger, it was bloody scary!

I can remember my Dad's Mk 1 Escort 1300GT (similar to above). It had the twin-choke Weber carb and the ZF gearbox. One night we were coming back from the West Country when I was a baby (I don't remember this) and my Dad was fed up of the A4. The M4 was complete but not officially open. Dad went to the roundabout, moved the cones and drove onto the empty M4. With two adults. two young 'uns, a bootful of luggage and a carrycot we did 104 miles in 58 minutes

M4 between swindon and maidenhead opened in 1971 (22nd December) so does that fit in with your maths? Just asking, will help you verify the story :)

If that's the case then I can't have been in the car as I was still 4 months away. However, Wikipedia is not always 100% correct - I have no reason to doubt my dad's story but he could have got certain details wrong - such as me being in the car!!

Cheers for that! I shall cross-examine my Dad and get the truth out of him!! Or at least try to. He's 72 and does tend to repeat things he's said...

1972 Lincoln Continental i remember looking through the oval opera window on the way to school.
I also remember the rear bench being leather and so slippy i used to slide from one side to the other when going round a bend.
Cheers for buckling me up dad!

First family car was a green left hand drive Triumph 2000,which my old man drove into a lamp post while turning left at a junction.
Next was a brown fiat 131 which he had to weld to pass the mot.he didn't wear any eye protection and was blind for three days.
Best car was mk1 Granada in white,in which he ran over my sister in laws foot while she was getting out.
He had several Talbot avengers which were embarrassing to be picked up in.
Think he wrote off a rover sd1 too.

As for the first car I remember...
I have vague memories of a VW Mk1 Derby, but probably only from pictures.
The one I actually remember being in was the Mk1 Jetta W reg, we had after the Derby. It was a 1.6 GLS in burgundy and brown interior, and had 5 doors, which was a huge luxury after the 3 door derby.
It looked just like this, but in burgundy and even had these wheels
(http://i52.tinypic.com/33xc6ea.jpg)
We had it till about 1985 when it was written off by a bin lorry driving into the back. It was sold to a stunt car company.
After this we had a VW Santana (Passat saloon) with a 5 cylinder engine, I think it was a 1.8. It looked just like this:

Bright orange austin maxi with black vinyl seats that had dots on them. Used to get the seat imprinted on our legs in the summer.
Blue austin allegro i can remember being rubbish
Red maestro i can remember being rubbish
Brown mini i can remember catching alight while my mum was driving and the back seat went up in smoke which i happened to be sat on. My dad was in front in his car so he got us out and put the fire out by pulling the seat out of the mini.
