okay, nice smooth looking doors, the smooth Euro look a few people have gone for, some love it some hate, i kinda warming to it myself...but...
how do they lock the doors? what exactly is involved? i know nothing on the subject so any info on it would be great :D thanks in advance!!!
its going to involve some form of central locking but any kits or such that have to be bought?

Do you mean Audi A4 handles, if so you need to weld in a section of the door.
Major work to get them in and working
-
no i mean no handles at all, so completly flushed out, i see alot of people have them, just wonder how the doors open, central locking and a solenoid maybe? i havent a clue just wondered if anyone knew
-

You need door poppers.

yep, need to rig up this shizzle...

Some people with more modern cars have put a switch in the door mirror to open. If you have a posh alarm, you could add the poppers to a pare channel. or you could save yourself the bother and not bother.
-
need remote central locking and door solenoids fitting aswell, buttong on key fob or under the mirror to actually pop the doors open
you need a form of getting into the car from outside to pass mot, ie button under the mirror

Hmm i dont like the MOT pass reg, so i have to fit it to an alarm to pass the mot then, else any bugger can come alone and "button-pop" it open :S
iv seen the kit from DSE engineering, £140 it is for the 2 door set-up seems like a fair price to me... just need to address the MOT poop... :undecided:

doesn't have to be linked to an alarm to pass mot, you need a form of getting into the car from the outside to pass mot in the event of an accident and emergency services need to get you out of car etc
doesn't even need to be linked to an alarm to stop people just pressing button to open door, you just need seperate remote central locking

rip off tbh

Not something that should be done to mk2 IMO.

its his car, can do what he wants to it tbh
-
ofc its my car, but i still value peoples opinion, as it stands the car will be left with handles for now the smoothed doors are looking to cost me about £500 to sort and fit to the car. gives me time to think.

A better option is Audi door handles
-
See if you can get some of these to fit

Curious remark! are you saying its too much, or too cheap?

So the bodywork is too much, and the kit to do the job is too much
Sounds like a bargain to me, providing the work is to a good standard, and the parts used work as they're designed

well done, you can read
i've been in the bodywork/painting trade for close to 10 years and its too much
-
when i said £500, it was to get the new doors resprayed, the door popper mechs, and all the window glass and such, i have a set of flush doors, its just going to need to wait until the cash is spare :D
-
when i said £500, it was to get the new doors resprayed, the door popper mechs, and all the window glass and such
defo too much then if you already have a set of doors that just need prepping/painting, fitting and solenoids fitting
-
no my current doors have handles. and are standard, the other doors are not my cars colour and will need paint, solenoids and all the glass as they are the doors only, thats the cost.

So you have some donor doors that you want shaved, painted, and kitted out with poppers, built and fitted, leaving the OE doors to live again another day. to do this work to both sides of the car, and getting it right, is an awful lot of work to do, for just £500 with paint and materials... door poppers can be very temperamental things to fit, taking hours sometimes just to set one of them up correctly
As I said before, 500 is a bargain!

thats what i said above, £500 is too much just to paint some donor doors, swap over the glass and everything and fit poppers
-
So you have some donor doors that you want shaved, painted, and kitted out with poppers, built and fitted,
top of page he says the other doors are already flushed/smoothed, so they only need painting

What would be your price then?
Thom
-
What would be your price then?
would have to see the condition of the doors that are to be painted and fitted first

Then how do you know £500 is too much!

because i've been in the trade for close to 10 years and was taught by my grandad who had 50 years experience in the trade and my tutor at college had around that too so i know how much work costs
even for doing some doors from scratch wouldn't break £400 including paint and solenoid fitting

We'll have to agree to disagree on this one,

are you in the trade? or just one of these people who think they know everything because they read it on the internet?

nice blank reply, think that explains all tbh
-
Nice blank reply... Because I'm in Portugal at the moment, and using the worlds worse wifi connection and an iPhone!
Maybe if you did a little homework, before jumping in with self opinionated pricing, and as far as I can see, not the best advice, and quite probably touting for business I would hold fire!
Surely your grandad etc, would have told you all those years ago (nearly 10) that bodywork has never been, and never will be, a level playing field...
Have a nice day!

Okay guys... i dont want to throw a spanner in the works but what would be a resonable price to flush a boot on a Mk4. When i say flush i mean taking away the handle and smooting it over? (not inc boot popper) i know how much they are!
ps   at the above :lipsrsealed:

Said car, this is how it looked when Greg Howell built it

Now Janet Edwardson's car, and how it looks now...
I presume it still looks like the above, not seen it since UD earlier this year, but a superbly executed car, but not to everyones taste...

are they Lambo wheels?

are they Lambo wheels?
Yes, it also has lots of other Lambo parts from what I remember of the feature a few months back in PVW.
-
I have her as a friend on Facebook. This Mk4 is Awesome! Yes the rims are Lambo and it also has Lambo seats. She gave me Gregs number not long ago as I was asking about the door pulls. I think it's
