Mines DSG , it holds when at the lights without putting breaks on , but then sometimes it just disengages ? That's not the same as hill hold is it ? :undecided:
-
It only holds for about two seconds, after you release the foot brake, and then disengages.

Mike it should work every time I stop at the lights, well it has been since I bought the car not sure if i'm explaining things right here?
-
Basically you come to a stop using your foot brake steve and the car holds the brakes on the last applied pressure. You can then let go of the pedal and it should stay put and as soon as you dab your accelerator the auto hold releases and you should creep away.

Lee
Yes Lee agree there , but its not doing it all the time for some reason ?
-
Autohold should come on along as you start the car and have your belt on or in some cases you set it in the mfd for autohold to come on every time. Is the light on?

You mean the light on the button , no it dosn't work all the time

Looks like another convenience feature that goes up the spout.
-
I always thought the Hill Hold was for DSG it appears you can enable it on the MT as well?
Yes, you can add Hill Hold Contol to 2010 MTs (http://www.myturbodiesel.com/forum/f19/yes-you-can-add-hill-hold-contol-2010-mts-8233/)
-
Auto hold doesn't work EVERY time. It only works on hills where the car senses the risk of rolling forward or backwards. You also need to come to a complete stop and the auto hold only stays on for a second or 2 which is enough time for you to drive, thus reducing the risk of clutch and handbrake control.
-
That's hill hold not auto hold.
Auto hold will hold you on any slope based on last applied brake pressure so even on a flat steve should be able to come to a stop and let go of the brake in his dsg and the car should stay put.mthe moment he touches the accelerator the car should creep away.

Yes Lee agree mate , but why does not do it all the time thats my question really ? :undecided:

I have no idea it certainly should do it every time aslong as the auto hold light/feature is on.

How does this Auto Hold work then?
I activated it today as per the instructions, but it doesn't seem to work.
I can drive up to a junction on a slight hill, come to a stop, release the brake...and the car rolls back.
Am I doing something wrong, or does it just not work on some manual cars?
Anyone else tried it?
-
I think its differant to Hill hold as mine is DSG ?
-

Yeah, Hill Hold can't be activated as VCDS says t's not installed.
So what IS Auto Hold...and what's it supposed to do?
Because thus far, I can't see it doing much at all.

I've found how to activate it

Its great gadget to have on the car , if your stopped at lights with the car in gear it stops the car going forward when in drive mode brilliant

So what's the craic here?
Is this supposed to add Hill Hold?
I've never had any bother will hillstarts using the handbrake previously..however I'll give this a go...
If so..do you need to apply the handbrake to set the system?
I tried pulling up to an uphill junction, stopping, letting off the brake..and the car rolls back.
If I pull up to the junction, apply the handbrake as normal, then let off the handbrake...will Hill hold keep the car from rolling back for 2 seconds? Is that the idea?
I'll try this later on...

VW have 2 technologies going. Hill hold and auto hold and both AFAIK are different.
Hill Hold: The convenient Hill Hold function prevents your car from rolling back when pulling away on a slope or during a hill start. The Hill Hold operates for approximately two seconds.
Auto Hold: The Auto Hold function is an extension of the electronic parking brake and offers you more convenience and extra safety. Operated via the ABS/ESP hydraulic unit, it stops your car from rolling away accidentally when standing still or setting off. When the car is braked to a standstill, Auto Hold retains the last-applied braking pressure. You can take your foot off the brake and all four wheel brakes will stay on. If the ABS wheel speed sensors detect any rolling, the braking force is automatically increased until the car comes to a standstill again. As soon as you press the accelerator again and - in the case of manual gearboxes - release the clutch, Auto Hold reduces the braking pressure.

It used to be an extra on earlier Golfs so may not be in your car Ess_Three

If its part of the electronic parking brake then the Golf doesn't have this does it?

Hill hold was only std on MY11 GTI/GTD onward, before that it was an optional extra for about 70 quid

No it doesn't. That is why I think they were getting mixed up with the 2 different technologies. Plus as already pointed out, it was an extra in earlier Golfs.
