Title: electric fuel pump problem
Post by: lord14 on 24 June 2011, 22:12
it has a 1.8t engine conversion i have a wallbro inline fuel pump and it has been fine for 6 months , and all of a sudden it blew a fuse so i replaced it and now it sounds like the pump starts up and then gets a quieter sound , almost like its under high load and then melts the fuses , ive ruled out theres no blocked fuel lines , ive took the fuel feed  off the fuel rail and connected it straight to the return pipe and its working fine , alot more powerful and sounds alot better , so what else can it be ?

Tricky one for me as the only thing that makes your car not a mk1 is the engine. Perhaps find a way to see if there is an issue with injectors, wiring problem preventing them from working maybe?  :undecided:

checked all the wiring it seems fine , the only thing i have noticed is when i take the feed off the rail or the pump it shoots out , so i wasnt sure if the rails can get blocked or maybe the fuel reg

This is why I wondered if there's something up with your injectors?.... can't see the rail being blocked especially if the filter is further back and the fuelling is fine up to the rail,  but then you never know. any way you can check the injectors are actually trying to do anything?  Have you ran it low on fuel at all recently?

Wonder if you're down on power leccy wise due to some unwanted drain somewhere, have you tested your battery output, ignition off, VS ignition on VS engine running.  Might be worth checking?

not tried it yet but i will do later on today , just abit weird if i take the feed off from the rail it shots the fuel out no problem , even under strain it seems to be pumping loads out.

Yeah the pressure is obviously there from the pump but it sounds like there's something not right in the rail itself, hence why I wondered if the injectors are doing there job properly.  They may look OK when spraying out of the engine but is it enough.........

Might be worth dropping a post in the mk4 section since that's where the engine as come from.  Perhaps another post in the Garage section.  Maybe someone who has suffered similar with theirs can help.  :undecided:

s said before it seems you have nailed the problem area at least, just not sure what else to suggest, hence why I think it might be an idea to post in the MK4 section and the garage section.
