none of the above :lipsrsealed:
-
I don't like these much either but I prefer them to the above:
http://www.r32oc.com/sale/33980-std-r32-mk5-18-zolders.html
PS. How come the Dotz have made a comeback? You got shot of a perfectly nice set.
-
I'm waiting for the Italians to design a wheel with 1 spoke, a bit like the Ducati's with only one arm to hold the back wheel.
Sorry bud, none of them.
-
If I was forced to have any of them, I would reluctantly say No. 6
-
Set number 10 gets my vote: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/18-VW-GOLF-MK5-04-08-BBS-CK-Alloy-Wheels-Only-/170649388080?pt=UK_CarParts_Acc_Wheels_tyres_Trims_Car_Rims_ET&hash=item27bb7f0430

It's probobly like seeing an old girlfriend whos found someone else, Askers old wheels look great with their new owner and now he's having second thoughts

Set number 11 not too shabby either:
http://www.volkswagenracing.co.uk/Golf%206%20Pages/Golf%206%20Wheels%20Tyres.html
I recognise the one in the first photo, wonder where it is now.... :lipsrsealed:
-
The last ones. But I would get the VWR ones instead of KEI.
-
I honestly can't be assed looking, make 'em pics please
-
what are these wheels for???
If you are looking for some winter wheels i have a set of 18" RS6 wheels that will fit the golf! Made by BBS.... tough as hell and look good. For you* asker £300!!
*and to save us all from these silly too fast too furious wheels
-
I honestly can't be assed looking, make 'em pics please
+1 cant be arsed trawling through them

Why be arsed posting just to say that, eh?

It worked! At least we bothered to look at the photos

Answer was to the below post which the sneaky git moved!

The Dotz were thrown in to fish a few of you in.
This was the only way I could get a reaction and some advice on what to purchase. There is always method in my madness. I have not got this far by being just a pretty face.
I also know how partial you all are to the Bridget Bardot's, so I deliberately did not include them.
I also gradually built up the interest so that it is now a furore.

All those wheels are gash

Keep the reactions coming. Livens the forum.

All those wheels are gash
Asker likes a bit of gash

They're all a bit "Check me out an me rimz down McD's" for me, no 5 is the best of a bad bunch.

Been really ill today as I reacted very badly to the anti-inflammatory medication. Was a pretty horrible situation. Better now. The forum proved to be good therapy. Thanks all. Most grateful.

Thanks Nick. I agree. But, I think I will go with the ubiquitous BBS CK wheels eventually.

I will make up my mind once all the reactions have been assessed.

Have you bought a Vauxhall VXR on the quiet Asker? All of these wheels seem to be perfectly suited to a vulgar Vauxhall.
The KEI's are probably the closest to being acceptable only because there is a hint of the VWR wheels but they don't hit the mark.
Hope you're feeling better soon BTW.
-
Im glad everyone else said it... as we all know how Mr Bling usually reacts when I say they were all wrong

You are both quite dear to me.
But I aint no Princess. I am a Queen, well not really but it will do for now!!!!
I'll probably get the BBS CK wheels soon to fit my wonderful winters ready to be the Queen of the North.
I can get them quite cheap and they should invoke little or no abuse from all you wonderful ladies.
Yeah, had a terrible day today, but you guys kept me happy.
The sound system in the car is simply amazing too.
Next, re-mapping but only after my shoulder operation. Doc will have to be the mountain and I will be Mohammed. The saying is: If Mohammed cannot go to the mountain, then the mountain has to come to Mohammed.
-
Surely the question is not what wheel we like, but what wheels YOU like. Personal taste and all that. I quite fancy a wee shot on Fern Britton, but most would kick her out of bed
Got to agree on the VWR ones or Pro Race 1.2's (although are these not the same wheel?)
-
None really Asker...
...not really that bothered tonight after I hit something in the road and taken a chunk out of my NSF alloy and a nice rip in the tyre wall <off to price up wheel and tyre>
-
Prefer the one's you already have on Asker 18" Monza's - classic.
Don't go for the CK's, go for these instead, more modern

Of your original list, number 5 for me. I really like the colour - will be quite unique looking and should look smart on a TR GTI.

And fiddly as hell to clean. Nice design though, as fitted to the APR GTI at Worthersee (this car makes me want a wrap!!)

now thats a wheel worth getting (if i dont say so myself).... 19" only though

I need to wipe my screen down after seeing those BBS alloys..... they are seriously nice and will have a seriously high price tag as well unfortunatly!

mmmm I see the fashion of White turning into the fashion of BLUE! nom nom nom!

Thanks Hurdy.
@MAW: Cheap as chips for me and I love their looks. Only £868.80 for 18x8.

I'm with Hurdy's suggestion. These are the shizzle. Particularly when shown off on the APR at Worthersee.
Problem is that they're a 40 offset so might not look so great on the front but they are lovely:

perfect as a track car

Checked today and BBS can machine them easily to ET45 for a small extra charge and possibly ET50. However, the CH Silver is available in ET50. It is also a more expensive wheel.

I see quite a bit of chat about ET45 etc, any chance of an idiots guide? How do i know what my wheels would be if i wanted some nice BBS wheels (which i do!)
Jim
-
Idiots guide:
mk5 and mk6 Golf, 7.5 or 8 inch wide wheel you want an offset ideally between ET50 and ET45. Couple of mm either side and you're probably going to be okay with standard suspension.
Most BBS wheels for Golf 5 & 6 fitment will be 8x18 (or 8x19) and ET44. They sit perfect.
CHs are expensive, look better on mk5 Golfs than mk6s due to the fact the mk6 looks best with a wheel where the spokes come right to the edge of the rim. In my not very humble (but correct!) opinion.

BBS are willing to machine wheels to the correct ET for a small charge.
And, who are you calling an idiot? Cheeky b!tch.
It's Jim. That's ok.
Don't like the CH silver anyway or the CK silver anymore.

Cool because after having been tempted by Hurdy, I visited the APR site and fished out the shot I posted a little earlier. Asker, please could you give me the details of who'd do that offset because those are definitely going to be my next set of wheels.

When I rang them earlier, the guy I spoke to not only completely failed to mention this, he tried to sell me on some wheels that were
Happy to do a group buy but when I spoke to them, their 'sales person' said there was a stock out in Germany but it sounds like I got the tea boy answering the phone.
-
I spoke to Michael today. There are two other's but their names escape me. The owner is called Andrew. I spoke to one of the other two guy's (with very Irish names) and he was ok. I'll call them again tomorrow.
Now to convince Jim to buy them too so 3 sets will get a bigger discount.
Hello Jim, are you looking?

I'll look at anything BBS if the price is right ;o)
BBS CH are nice, but they look to have stopped doing them in anthracite
I do also like the Team Dynamics Pro Race 1.2 also in anthracite

You ready to lose some readies? Come on and help get a group discount which I will try to negotiate tomorrow.
CH Silver looks classy. The black and anthracite ones are a mixture of black and silver respectively. Nooooo for moi as there is a lack of serious BLING and I don't like the silver rim and they are more costly.

Let me know how much they are looking at Asker.

@Neil. No booze for me during the week. Only pills, but only prescribed ones for the pain in my heart. Actually it is the shoulder, but we'll keep that quiet and get the gossip going.
So, so far it's AGB, Jimmymature and am1w for the BBS CH5s.
That's 3 sets if my maths is correct. I'll ask for a 12% discount, they'll offer 6% and then we'll settle for 8%. Pies in the sky, I know.

Grandchild's 3rd Birthday on Sunday.
Where do you hail from and when were you thinking of going? I could keep you company for Saturday. Must be back home that evening. Can't drive there due to bad shoulder.
But I am definitely going next year.
-
Tyre is still OK - I thought it was going to need replacing but they say OK!) but wheel has a nasty edge to it now - so annoyed but I will get over it - luckily its on the edge rather than on the face of the wheel.
I'd love some of those alloys but have just forked out for our summer holiday so haven't got any spare £s :( Would love the though - they do look verrrrrrry nice
-
@Adrian.
Small mercies. I bet you wish it was the other way around. Heartbreaking and sickening. Not to worry, the wheel can get fixed and it will be as good as new.
I was traumatised at the weekend when I hit two massive unavoidable craters. But lady luck shone on me. Third time lucky? I doubt it.
Good thing about a dicky shoulder is that holidays are out. So a part of the cash will go on the new wheels.
I am going to try to get a discount for us. The recession might bode well for a favourable outcome.
-
OOOH, what have I started here then
They are a gorgeous wheel
-
@Hurdy.
Good taste triumphs, sir and you definitely have excellent taste. Thank you.
Yes, the are the pick of the crop merging bling and style perfectly. Are you going to shod your new car with them? We could call ourselves the CS gas brigade!

Your recommendations for Tornado Red, Black and Silver cars please would be appreciated.
I am partial to the Silver and so is AGB for his black car. Jimmymature prefers the Anthracite for his silver car.

My car is also going to be black and I'll be going for CS5's in silver 7.5" X 17 and ET35 PCD 5 x 100mm.
Not ordered yet, so if they can do a price for mine as well (wheels only) then I'm in. Should give you a little more bargaining power
This is the price on Rimstyle for mine and includes the all important fitting kit, silver valve stems, locking wheel bolts AND delivery....£721.

I've looked most places and I don't reckon you'll get a better price than our Norn Iron guys, especially if you get a group buy going.
Haggle hard ladies.
I'll even dance for them naked without my suicide vest.
@Alex: Let me do the bargaining. I am pretty adept. :smug:
I shall leave it in your capable hands Asker. Remember to aim for buy one get one free.
I think Jim is on board. Try and convince him even more at GTI International.
I really want those CS5s.
What do you think of these?

Very nice.... I really like the Ronnie 'Borbet' BS5' alloys. Been searching for a picture of them on a Mk6 GTI but had no luck.

Alex, Jim, Martin,
You should have got the e-mail from Rory of Performance Alloys regarding his best prices.
I tried my best to drive a hard bargain.
Hurdy's alloys are £660 inc VAT and postage.
Martin, the standard ET on the CS5s is 40. Machining them to ET45 costs extra as per e-mail from Rory.
The Silver CHs come with ET44 as standard so no machining necessary.

Hi Asker,
Were the specs the same as I posted for mine including the ET?

Machining them to ET45 who does that? And is there any impact on the warranty from BBS?
Cheers,
Jim
-
@Jim: Machining done by BBS themselves, costs £60 and delivery takes 2 weeks.
@Hurdy: Exactly the specs you mentioned.
Contact: Rory McLornan, Rory@performancealloys.com, Tel 02894 465 151.
I'll order mine on Monday.
Thanks Asker, knowing that BBS do it makes me feel loads better about it. I guess the popular view is that 19" arent the preferred size and that 18"s are the way to go?

@Jim: Machining of the CS5 alloys from ET40 to ET45 is done by BBS themselves, costs £60 and delivery takes 2 weeks. 19" wheels cost more and so do the tyres. Stick with 18". They will answer a maiden's prayer quite nicely.
@Hurdy: Exactly the specs you mentioned. ET=35. £660 inc VAT and delivery.
@MAW: No need to machine the CH alloys in 18x8 as ET=50.
18x8:
CS5 Silver £900 (ET45), CS5 Anthracite £994 (ET45), CH Silver £1150 (ET50). All inc VAT and delivery.
Contact: Rory McLornan, Rory@performancealloys.com, Tel 02894 465 151.
My job is nearly done. I'll try and wrestle a few more quid off the price.
I'll order mine on Monday most probably.

I'd not disagree with any of those choices.
Especially you Asker - you're going to be running yours as winter wheels thus could do with avoiding polished faced ones.
I can't wait to see the cars with them fitted - time for a mini meet and photoshoot - I propose the Autometrix track day at Castle Combe in July. http://www.autometrix.co.uk/trackdays.html

That's sounds like a great idea.
I'm still in two minds about anthracite or black, problem is that I can't find any pics with the wheels on a reflex silver car.
Is anyone a whiz with Photoshop?

@Andy: Thanks for the heads up. I love the wheels. They'll be pigs to keep clean. CKs much, much easier and £60 cheaper at £840. Ah well ....
@Jim: Personally, I'd go for all silver especially on a silver car. They are cheaper too. Ask Performance Alloys or Rimstyle if they have pictures. Decisions, decisions ....

I like the black or the antrahcite as it shows off the 5 spoke design better IMO.
I'll mail them to see if they have any pics, cheers Asker.

Jim, I looked high and low last night to find pictures. Eventually nodded off. Try the US forums. Could strike lucky. It is a lot of money to spend and one needs to get it spot on.
I am still pushing for a little more discount. Thought I'd leave it until Monday before I start a fresh assault. Usually works. Carrot and stick approach, sort off.

Could always use a mini meet with the pictures promised to be sent to performance alloys to help with their advertising, to see if they would give you more off?
