Title: 1.8T cam chain tensioner
Post by: Mr_Orange on 20 June 2011, 20:17
Hi,
What does replacing the gasket set (http://www.ecstuning.com/ES258758/) on the 1.8t vvt tensioner achieve?  I've seen it as a DIY on line but its not clear exactly why you would it....  :undecided:
Is it purely for stopping oil coming out down the side of block or does it improve tensioners ability to hold pressure and prevent chain rattle?
Thanks

I only ask 'cos at a cold start there is a very brief "rattle" sound a bit like this, but not as bad:

It's got me worried...... !  :undecided:

It's not the starter (I've replaced that) and it aint the SAI pump (as that's been repaired).

When warmed up I can also vaguely hear the sound of what I think is the chain running.
