Title: Choosing a new car...
Post by: tigerj360 on 16 June 2011, 14:20
and I'm stuck between the VW Bora 130 or the Seat Leon 110.

Wondering if anyone could help with giving me some performance figures after they have had a remap

Cheers

Jon

Bora - circa 170bhp and 300lbs ft torque
Leon - circa 145bhp - not sure on the torque figure

Go for the Bora

Who cares!!?  It's all about 30mph +   How often do you launch it off the lights and to be honest, what's the point?

I had a Golf Mk4 running the same engine - ran approx 175bhp and 330lbs ft torque; overtaking was a rather simple affair

Very very true and im trying to get good MPG too! will the map improve the mpg figures or worsen them?

I look forward to the overtaking

Drive as normal and you'll get better MPG; drive it hard and you won't although I usually got 500 from the Golf no matter how I drove it; hard, short, long journeys etc etc

Rhys,

Hit me up with the clutch combo you went for. I "think" my release bearing is knackered (can't really be sure) so need to get a replacement sometime in the near future.

I presume the Passat runs the same clutch as the MK4  :undecided:  240mm diameter?

I went for the Sachs Organic Clutch friction and pressure plate, an LUK flywheel and then a release bearing from VW

The clutch when I bought it was £460ish; now closer to £600
Paid £200ish for the flywheel
£40 for the bearing
£200 for fitting

The clutch is good enough for 400lbs ft torque

Most people tend to stick with the standard clutch; I know Steve_PD has fitted another standard clutch as his lasted approx 80K after being remapped; mine lasted 2K after the Custom Code map  :undecided:

Think the rats is 228mm... Could be a gearbox difference though, 6 speeds tended to have the larger plates on the rats.

Hmmm; all the 6 speed boxes in the Goof's are 240mm diameter; cheesed me off royally as it meant I couldn't fit the VR6 / G60 combo that all the petrol lads do

Get the 130

I'll second that

110 is an epic motor for tuning but you do need to glue a fair amount of parts on to get to mapped 130 teritory in terms of power/torque.

130 is by far the best value in terms of Power/torque vs ££££

The only other consideration is the car itself - I dare say the Leon will handle a little better than the Bora (depending on individual spec/setup of course) however the build quality is not as good as the Bora.

All things considered I'd be in the Bora me thinks..........

Just realised your in Manchester Doc, im in Bracknell

Its about a 7 hour round trip unfortunately, do you know where else is best to get a remap a little closer?

is the 115 a bit better to tune than the 110?

115 should see a comfortable 140bhp plus a load of more useful torque and improved MPG, but only if you resist the temptation to use your new found power

Nice  I'm loving the amount of torque already, as soon as you get out of 2nd gear it flys! hoping to have an even bigger grin after the remap

Any problems i should look out for on the 115? plus rhyso where do i post on here with bora related questions?

Just have a good check around your pipework from the EGR to the intercooler and if you can get your head under the car from the intercooler to the turbo.  Make sure the seals, clips and lugs are in good condition as they can wear over time.

Whoever does the remap will have a look over things for you and also data log the car to make sure all the sensors are working / reading properly  :nerd:

Bora = MK4 so post away in there
