Contact flc1962 and get it cheap!

No complaints from me about their service, quite the opposite.
Unlike the sh*te Orange Broadband I used to have.

Ping 20mg+, no lag for online gaming
+I have mates rate deal

Great service when working, customer service can be a nightmare, its in Chenai and I found the langauge barrier a nightmare when the staff had not been able to repeat an off the card answer.
Best service out there imo

internet = great, better than any other provider, but still my 10mb goes to less than 1mb at peak times, but still not as bad as others
tv = decent, but the box really lags and the catch up service is very slow to update, sometimes doesnt even work at all
phone = not the cheapest
mobile = an absolute joke, really dont even consider this

there customer support is usually crap, ring up about a prob and you usually get a person who has no idea and just reads off a list and speaks broken english, however last time i rang i got someone who sounded like he REALLY knew his stuff and was so helpful, so this may have changed

if you do get it then keep an eye on the prices they charge, they go up quite a bit without noticing (mines went from 25 to over 50 within 2 year!) but i just rang up and said im gonna leave cos its gettin expensive and they reduced it

On 50mb internet and tv deal in my current house.

Hate to go against the grain but hate it. The box has been replaced twice, usually goes to 'local only' meaning it has to be reset (times we have to do this varies - sometimes it's daily, sometimes it's every sodding 10 minutes). Internet is usually pretty slow but tolerable.

Tv is ok but the remote we got sent had been chewed  :undecided: (obviously not a new one)

Phone we have but never gets used so can't comment on that.

Customer service is shocking. Won't go into details as it's a long and boring story.

I'll be avoiding using them again when I move out at the end of the month. Problems might be just the area as it's heavily populated with students and demand is heavy, however I've not been impressed with them.

been with them since 2002. Any complaints I have had (which has probably been about 3) have been dealt with swiftly and satisfactorily.

They do send you quite a bit of crap through the post. This week I had a flyer for the super-duper box at a discounted rate for loyal customers such as myself.....(£149 for the box, £39 installation fee and £3? extra per moth for the privilege.) With offers such as that I would recommend they save their paper...

Basically, everything works as it should, no problems. Me and the mrs also both have mobile contracts with em.

There packages are pretty decent even though my own package is staff rates due to me and my partner working for them many moons ago and they have to honour it untill we cancel.Ive got the samsung HD box which is a big improvment on there last HD box and the old pace ones. The internet use to be very good still is to a point but they do put a speed cap on it I belive between 12 and 4pm may well have changed but they told me this when I rang them asking why my service had slowed right down a while back. There installers are all contractors mainly and they have no auditors so there quality of work isnt great you may get lucky and get the odd in house guy whos been with them a while but most of them are ruff installers. They did quote that they offer a 50mb service which is bull I think they may have trials in London only could be wrong but im in Bham and theres no 50mb service here.If on the other hand your a B.T customer or have your internet through a phone line look out for B.T infinity in your area you will see taller green cabinets near the smaller B.T ones these are now fibre feed and link into the older B.T cabs and I know its running at a average of about 40mb which I would say is the fastest in the UK.They are aiming for 80mb plus fibre off the pole is also in use now.Reason I know about all this is im a cabler for B.T and im pulling in and blowing fibres for NGA next generation access should be national by 2015 hopefully

Been with em since 2005. Had the odd period of downtime but always back up quickly and I've found the support really good. Pretty much always have the full 10m we pay for. The only issue I have has was when I did have a problem it took 3 calls to get an engineer to actually turn up. The phone staff were awesome, the guys on the ground, sh!te.

We've got TV+Broadband+phone with them. Been a bit of a nightmare since Day One. And before anyone asks, I don't work for Sky
Here's what I mean.....

Day of installation. The installation team don't even turn up. Apparently, a mix up in diaries and paperwork between sales team and installers.
After rescheduling, everything is installed and engineers move onto next job. Hours later, the phone isn't working. Arrange for engineer to visit in a few days. Turns out they made a schoolboy error when connecting up the phone socket.

Weeks later, when the first bill arrives, it's more than expected. They've incorrectly billed us for two set top boxes, when we only have one in the house.
We get a revised bill. But weeks later, we get a final demand notice for the first (higher) bill. Turns out, they haven't made the correction to the first bill, and they also messed up setting up the direct debit.

Soon later, we come back home and find we've no longer got our Sports package etc, just basic channels. Ring Customer Services (in India, I think) and find out it's because we're over our credit limit of £100, I think it was at the time. Apparently, every customer is given a default credit limit. Go over it and they put you on "reduced" services. I explained we make quite a few international calls to relatives overseas (expensive, unless you log those numbers as Favourites), so our monthly bills can be occasionally high. After much argument, they agree to raise our credit limit.

About two months ago, we decided to switch to their Talk Unlimited package. They sent us an email confirming the switch was actioned, so we all started using the phone a lot more. Now we've got a ridiculously expensive bill because they haven't actually switched us over. We're currently awaiting their excuses.

We've also had instances when the TV box has stopped working altogether. They blamed it on local connection problems. It lasted one whole weekend once. We cheekily asked if they'd knock a few quid off that month's bill, but they didn't.

Also, does anyone else's set top box sometimes chirp away like R2D2 from Star Wars? Sometimes with a jerky picture and sometimes with no picture at all. And sometimes we can't get certain channels. Instead, it comes up with an error code that you have to tell Indian Customer Services about. Despite everything being connected properly, and rebooting?

A couple of tips we've learned since we've been VirginMedia customers:-
1. Make sure you leave easy access to the set top box plug. You'll need it, as you'll be frequently rebooting it by killing the power hoping the faults clear;
2. Have the menu to your local Indian takeaway to hand. When you ring Indian Customer Services, you'll end up spelling out much of your problem because you can hit a bit of a language barrier. Rather than use police-type-speak e.g. "B" for "Bravo", "T" for "Tango" etc, it's better to say "B" for "Bhiryani", "T" for "Tikka Massala", "V" for "Vindaloo".

So why are we still with them.....well, we've never really gotten round to looking into Sky. And we're very forgiving people. There's a lot worse happening in the world today.
Title: Re: anyone with virgin media ?
Post by: tdi_blu on 05 June 2011, 23:03
With the problems your having with the set top box could be a few things signal strength either to much juice going in or not enough, faulty box,bad connectors as in the inner part of the cable not flush with the connector, dodgy spliter or bad isolator on the wall.Could even be to do with the cable feed upto your house if for example you have 1 set top box and a cable modem and live less than 150 meters a RG6 cable will be fine.If you live more than 150 meters away and have the same they should pull in a RG11 cable which is thicker and allows you to get better signal..

Do they still have their Welsh techies? My father in law had a number for them because he refused to talk to the script readers in India He's not racist, he's an ex-programmer and knows a thing about how it all works thanks to the chats he had with the Welsh tech support contingent when it was still NTL. He would often be without internet on weekends due to 'maintenance' work, he had quite a few reduced bills   He move about 2 years ago and changed to BT and hasn't had a problem yet.

I guess it's how bothered you are with fiddling and fart arsing about with a 'techie' on the phone that you can sometimes hardly understand vs the amount you'll be paying.

Be careful with Virgin they are a little sneeky when it comes to contracts, everytime you change something for instance a service or address they start a new contract without telling you.

I always had NTL then virgin didn't really have to many issues till i moved out of the cable area. I had to get Sky as no cable available, Virgin wouldn't let me out my contract as they could still give me broadband through the phone line but not only that because i had changed my service it started another years contract!

Customer service is awful !

We are with Virgin for our phones, broadband and TV. I've been really happy with their service and especially like the virgin media TV compared to say Sky.

Virgins medias catch up on demand service is quality.

Moving house soon but to any area where there is no Virgin Cable TV so may need to switch to Sky.

This is where you might have an issue they cant hold you to the contract for services they can't supply but as we got stung by them saying we had to stay with them for broadband..was annoying as can get free bb with my sky

You on infinity ?im pretty sure if you have had a managed install i.e a engineer has come to fit a new master socket for the fibre broadband you should be getting speeds far better than that and your upload should be alot faster. :undecided:.i would be on to your service provider about that result.

You will see a massive difference on infinty those speeds are copper speeds im not pluggin BT but trust me you will get a far better service once your on it.The fibre is at the cab but it dont upgrade you automicatlly your pair in the old cab has to be linked to the new cab which a engineer will do this then cuts your old copper pair from the exchange.

There customer service is terrible and have always ended up going to India trying to have a conversation with some that speaks broken English, it was really hard work.

TV service has been fine, got ourselves a V+ box and is brilliant, same as anything Sky offer.

Just make sure chuff that the virgin network is in your area as they offer you there service though a B.T line as well so just be sure other wise its pointless. If you already have a cable feed it may already be at the front of your house. If you havent you do realise they will come through your garden as in lift your mono blocks, cut a line in your tarmac or trench and splice your grass..

I'm with Sky and its pretty good, if a little expensive. I get peace of mind though knowing there are never any problems with it. Broadband is just under 2mb which compared to most others on here is actually pretty good. If I ever have any questions with regard to customer services though, I have to call during weekdays and normal working hours. This is to speak to Scottish people, where its sometimes hard to understand them  but nowhere near as bad as if I phoned on an evening, or at weekends when its an Indian call centre.  Wouldnt recommend the phone line through them though, was with BT and thought I would bring my bills down even by a few quid by going with Sky. Rarely use the house phone but when I do, the bill suggests I've been calling Outer Mongolia during peak time all bloody day its that expensive. My dish is shielded from the wind and rain mostly, so never had a problem with reception here either. Alot of collegues have actually switched from virgin to Sky which I was surprised at, as a couple of years ago most were doing the opposite.

A word of warning with VM...... I had VM since 2003. We've just moved house last Friday and I left 1No.HD box and a 1No.standard box in the old house as it was no use to us in the area we've moved to. So I get a call from a man in a van from VM yesterday saying I'm just popping round to pick up your old equipment. I explained I have moved house and left the old equipment there. He said VM are likely to charge me for not returning the equipement circa £ 250?

Anyway I've phoned my estate agent who is contacting the buyer of my house and hopefully I can collect the old equipment becuase there is no way I'm handing them over £250-00.

Now I've paid monthly for the for the best broadband package, telephone package & TV package with VM since 2003 untill this month. I was spending roughly £150-00 a month with VM so that works out to approx £14K spent from 2003 - 2011 . Ummm and then they chase you and want to charge you £ 250 you for not returning the old set top boxes back which are probably no use to anyone else.... Its a frigging cheek if you ask me!!

I'm with Virgin Media.

They're sh!t.

sh!t customer service, we're trying to get hold of someone who understands english to get an issue sorted out and all we ever get it passed from pillar to c**t and then to post.

This happens EVERY time we need to contact them.

I'm thinking of ditching them.

I'd never reccomend using them and would never use them again.

f**king incompetent twits.

........... and to follow on from Mr Virgin Media rant I got my last bill through and they have charged me an extra £95-00 for not giving them 30 days notice about terminating my service with them. Having used Virgin Media on and off between numerous houses since it was Telewest I can definitely confirm their sh!te customer services. Over the years ive had just about every problem possible with them but unfortunately due to the areas I lived in that time no other service provider comes anywhere near in terms of product.
Being a heavy internet user and wanting the best possible service for downloading music and films i really don't have have any choice in going with someone else tbh.
As it stands BT can only ever peak at around 0.7mb and with my current Virgin broadband package im getting approximately 19mb....no comparison really. This will be going up after next week as well as im moving house again and switching up to the 50mb package for extra download and streaming oomph!
