Been looking around for a 4Motion Golf mk4 or bora with the 150 PD lump. I fancy one because with the torque and grip I thought they might get away from the lights better..
Do they exist?
If so, where are they, been searching auto trader but nothing.
-
I don't think there was a 4mo Derv in the MKIV range. There are derv 4mo passats of that era but they're like hens teeth.

Yeah, found two of those

Just fancied a Golf because of the lightness, and i wouldn't really need a big car like that, Plus they are only the 130.

Golf 4 and light. Now there are two words that don't come in to a sentence together very often....
-
I know, but there others are well on there way to 1500kgs and the golfs low 1300's. Every little helps!
Heres proof tdi and 4wd works - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-HopzVdoQpc

Think you could get one in Europe but definitely not the UK
Early MK5's had 4Motion but they quickly dropped it :undecided:
-
Right, fair shout, I got my answer :( . I know there was a Cupra4 for the Euro Market, but they are left-hookers.
My budgets sub 5k for a fast diesel, Just gonna have to look at the 150 boras and golfs then. I wish I could stretch to the 170 pd motor in the octy vrs or a golf mk5 but just out my league.
Cheers guys

Remember that the 150's tend to suffer with an expensive cam eating problem!
-
Isn't that just down to poor oil changes?

Yes and no :undecided: Its more likely due to a poor batch of components
and the 130 has the same camshaft :lipsrsealed:

Depends on the oil i would say, i always use Castrol Edge turbo diesel cost me £40-50 every service but not had any cam problems so far and gone over 120k.

Go for a 130bhp and remap it.
-
Well I was hoping to aim for the brighter side of 200bhp, and seeing as the 150 has the bigger turbo, uprated injectors and a front mount inter cooler as standard, it makes more sense to go for the 150 as the 130 would require alot more work and money, though I do see your point of the reliability of the 130, its just I doubt a remap to 170 bhp in a diesel would keep me occupied for very long.
The other car that I was looking at was the (and yes I'm about to say the B word) E46 330d, and get that remapped.

I believe a 130 will remap really well, plus I believe from threads on here it can sometimes make a little more torque.

Daft idea, turbo problems, swirl flaps fail and can write the engine off, they need lots of looking after.

How do you find your MK1 VRS on fuel? A mate used to have a red one that was remapped my awesome, that was quick.

For the power etc, it is very good, doing around 30mpg in mixed driving, will hit 40mpg on a run.

Done a bit of research, I found out the turbo failures were down to the oil feed pipes becoming blocked and these should be checked every other year, and the swirl flaps are easily removable. There are actual companies out there who manufacture blacking caps to irradiate this problem - http://swirlflaps.co.uk/index.html

I know the swirl flaps are easy to sort but they do tend to suffer turbo failures.

get a 150 with good service history and you'll be fine, ppl buy 130's when they ca'nt afford 150's simples
