Yes kerbs do help....
It looks like I could walk under it from your sig pic.

I believe it is now a lot lower due to coilovers being fitted.

Actually the kerb separates the tar from the block paving like every tesco car park!
Yes it is on coilovers now just got the back arches back on today need to get it cleaned for some new pics

Looks well!
I see you have a massive gap in the middle on your vr6 splitter?
On my old bumper it was perfectly flush with no gap.But on my freshly painted one it has a gap like yours and is driving me mad!!!
Ive tried all sorts of fettling but i still have a bloody gap!
Does everybody have this problem then?

Sounds like you had a genuine splitter and now you aint
Try taking it off and put it back on starting from the middle with the two pieces together.
-
I swear there will always be a couple of mm gap! mine is genuine and has taken a bit of a beating and had ALWAYS had a small gap :(
-
Yeah my genuine has but only a few mm.
on the low days

LOL commitment :D
-
all of you are cheating! :D using a vr splitter!
if i run one it would be about 2mm from the floor :P
got my us one and that catches at times (got big tyres on now)
make sense of this though....
iv got the standard gti 15 inch on when i put my 16s on though i go lower :P
oh and the key.... ;)

Now that is low
-
Bet they all handle like a bag of crap... wheels up in the arch =
Still at least your car probably creates less wind turbulence
-
some nice pics guys yes its a cheap vr splitter.
does anyone have issues with rubbing being that low?

If i wanted to go round corners at 80mph i would buy a track car and go to a track, i drive sensibly
-
With that reasoning you could quite easily argue, why buy a GTI at all?! Why not just buy a 1 litre saxo with the rest of them and chav that up instead?!
Only 80mph?!!
-
There's a ride height for everyone, chill out fellas
-
Forget my last comment - I just realised you have an 8v mk3, so 80mph round a corner is out of the question anyway!
-
*Cough* speed limit is 70 *cough* insurance companies and popo can look on these sites *cough*
-
They can.. and what they'll read is a big load of bluster!
-
There's a link to a diary from a chap in prison for death by dangerous driving. Its sobering reading, they used his posts on a forum as evidence and as they didn't know the context, were mistaken for recklessness and helped them reach the guilt verdict.
-
Meh..
-

First of all I don't do chav! Second I'm not a spotty teenager and don't want and never had a saxo!
I bought my car as a project for myself a non runner, I didnt go out and buy a valver to be just happy with the performance. I will make the car what I want it to be and how fast I want it to be but I will never be stupid enough to drive around at silly speeds just to impress someone who doesn't give a f--k!
-
Who says you have to do anything to impress anyone, all I said was that a car that low, besides looking stupid, will also handle like a bag of crap. Which it would.
-
Blimey, we got our own Diamond Hell in the mk3 section
-
If you want your car to look like this, why dont you just buy one and be done with it..

You gotta love the haters mate.
-
my mk2 was decked and i loved the look but hated the speed humps!
mk3 is about to go on a tidy set of coilies and being the daily and where i now live & work it wont be mega low.
-
i do plan to go lower.. this is only to annoy people who have air.
im lower on coilovers than they are with air... gutting haha.
-
This dennis guy loves to rip the people that are low...
I met him in real life and his car is rather Untasteful to say the least. I would go as far as saying it's boring and chav with a gold decal of gti running down the side of his car!
Theres my opinion which didn't need to be shared...
There is always one hater who believes that their negative opinion needs to be shared... You don't like it, we didn't ask.
 Waits for DH to roll down :D
-
I like the low look even if its not practical. All you need to do is pick a non speed bump route each trip sorted. And yes its maybe a bit twitchy around corners with pot holes nowadays but you gotta love it. looks tidy mate imo  dennis seems to have a knowledge of much variety on many topics including one of my recent ones
-
^^^ exactly lol
-
My 2 pence worth. :lipsrsealed:
Lowering a car past a certain point does not = good handling.
Ideal height is wishbones level.
I know it is not scene or cool but anything lower is not helping in anyway.
-
Dennis Edition is that way --->

Low and slow FTW!!

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but no-one likes someone wading into your thread to tell you what you've done to you're car is $hit

pics of your car please dennis...... i need to see these gold decals!!!!
my gti splitter sits quite low, i can only just get my foot under it, not sure on the subframe - i'll try to get a pic.
It doesn't handle great but i like the look, but i still think it corners better than standard?
on a side note i hate that bloody feeling when you see a bump in the road or a pothole and your balls go straight up into your stomach just waiting for the CLANG! or SCRAPE!

The bottom line is that uber lowered cars look the nuts but handle like diarrhea. Simple facts.

Loving the look of all the low car, unfortuantly i need to have mine slightly higher.
Need more of a fast road setup for mine.

could quite easily ask that if you like fast cars then why do you own a mk3 gti? :undecided:
Low mk3's ftw
-
I agree with both sides lol they handle awful and you've gotta be careful driving them but by god they look cool

that looks awesome, how can someone think that that looks sh!te??
i got mine as low as i can without killing the bottom of the car and i think it handles less like a boat now too!! lol
-

Not so much that but what is the point in lowering a car to the point it cannot be used on a day to day basis.

I think dmonday might be flirting with that line. Either that or he has shares in the people who make driveshafts and sumps

but it can, obviously not as easily used as a daily as a standard car but i think all owners take this into account before lowering?
you could apply that logic to a lot of senarios (sp?)
do you look at a nice pair of long legs in high heels in a club and think "oooh she would be much more comfortable in a pair of trainers"? if your like me then you probably don't think about her poor blistered feet and have a good old perve!
form over function
-
Any car looks better once its lowered but stupid low is just that stupid low but each to there own if you can afford to replace your tyres every 10 mins and replace your sum and god knows what other damage you do then go for it  with all due respects to old Danny Monday he killed my old wagon  I loved that car when it was mine...
-
air ftw
-
LOL i thought i was gonna get flamed at taking a shot at dennis!
I'm glad the rest of us are pretty level headed!

Thai hit the nail on the head and wherry <3
although i have had the same set of T1R's on mine for a year now and they still have 4mm tread
But i drive like an old woman.
And NO not into things
-
Thai's summary is my quote of the week, and is now in my sig
-
well i do run stupidly low (as you can see in the photo) and use it as a daily... and i live by speedbumps!!
if i have to i can get over them but have gotten stuck sometimes, but normally i will pick a route with roads which are pot hole and speedbump free. keeping me this low keeps me under the limit (not that i went much over it anyways before) because im reading the road more looking out for hazards... so i see myself as a more aware driver.
oh and with tyres... well since my advans have been on (march) the rears have been changed 3 times and the fronts twice :)
-
Seems like Dennis is not well liked for his comments
As already said its each to there own, i dont think mine is too low, as i can get over the speed bumps with only a little scuff from the splitter.
Speed bumps kill your suspension an bushes anyways, being low makes you go slower over them so it wont damage anything  thats what im telling myself anyway
