right you lot... need some help and advice and you all seem to be quite hands on
have been building a patio for the good lady in my spare time...
all has gone according to plan so far... its been done on a budget of virtually nothing (the stones were free so they don't match the original ones so thats why it doesn't look superb)
I dug the patio out of a sloping garden, at the back of the patio i dug a drainage ditch and lay in a semi permeable drain pipe to help.. this will be covered in pea shingle
however.. because the garden is on quite an incline I have been left with a problem...

as you can see I need some form of edging to go in... the patio IS straight... its the angle of the shed and the garden that are on the p1ss...
my solution would be to get a baton, like treated deck board, have this cut to size for the shed and then baton it against the shed support... for the garden... again baton it, but have an 'even' baton go right across the garden then backfill with earth in behind on the right hand side and lay turf over the top? The pea shingle will go in the trench between the patio edge and the baton.
any other suggestions? I'm proper rubbish at being a chippy and this is my first go at doing anything like this so go easy
-
shed is easy to fix,
move shed, dig out, level to patio, replace shed.
grass is more fun
lift turf for first foot, remove soil into a slope down to patio, replace turf, tap down
-
i'm not doing any more frigging digging
ever!
-
6x2 concrete edging kerbs around the patio?
-
build a wall
-
as above put some kerb edgers in will look ok once they are in mate
-
6x2 concrete edging kerbs around the patio?
And they should be flat top ones not bullnosed.

this is guy remember, find a picture for him
-
if it was me i'd hire a mini digger and level off the whole garden

believe me, if it was MY garden I would... but my budget for this is minimal.. eg. £0 or as close to it as possible :lipsrsealed:

There are only TWO types! Even Guy should be able to decide if its a flat oblong or has one rounded corner!
-
Ah if budget is minimal it maybe be better to get some gravel board.
That is only fixed by hammering a few pegs into the ground rather than a concrete base for the Edgings!
-
Dig it man, will look 100times better!
Also means nothing for a 100mph toddler / small child to trip over, when they are hell bent on wrecking your new masterpiece.

yes... I was thinking of this...
http://www.wickes.co.uk/sawn-treated-gravelboard/invt/107143/ (http://www.wickes.co.uk/sawn-treated-gravelboard/invt/107143/)
or some decking board... just for a more attractive finish
-
Make a raised border using railway sleepers with steps in the middle leading onto the grass area, best to buy new ones from a timber yard they are cheaper and do not leak tar.
-
looks fine to me. leave it as it is.... if you are ever asked to do anything else, you can always reply with "let me finish the fcuking garden first"

i did point out that one was too fcuking BIG so SWMBO is searching for a 4x2m one

thats exactly why women should never make any decisions. the sun comes out.... so lets go outside and hide from it!
God was so close to getting it right when i comes to women... then he gave them the ability to speak :undecided:

Guy, the lawn slopes from left to right, so unless you address that, you aint gonna get a perfect patio to lawn profile.
I suggest you plant some border plants up to the red arrow - where it levels out.
This will disguise the slope and make the patio/lawn border look much nicer than some gravel.

believe it or not I actually have these!

I would dig it back at a gentle gradient to merge from the edge of the patio to aboot where the brush is, better than nowt. Also leave about a 6inch gap at the edge of the patio as a soakaway (dig out a little and put gravel in). That is assuming it has a run on it too the garden

Guy, you haven't buried anyone under there have you? just a thought like... :lipsrsealed: :lipsrsealed:

i have informed SWMBO of this... it has been rejected because of weeds
liked the idea though

the soakaway is in place and the gravel/pea shingle is standing by
took a trip to a timber yard today... :lipsrsealed:

Women!
So...either put a railway sleeper there or build a small brick wall.
-
i got my old women planks i used as ramps  whack them down job done :smug:

Only just spotted this.. Nice work so far.... Damn I feel your pain... I always get whipped onto garden work! Ponds, Walls, sheds... it never ends... looks like you've done a good job though. :afro:
Not sure what I can add at this stage, I would probably make a box for flowers. A narrow version of your veg beds.. Similar to what we have done at ours.

i like that idea... but the mrs has settled on something... and that something is being actioned, whether it'll look any good or not is another matter! :lipsrsealed:

Timber / boards, but hold it in place with some of the smaller size metposts and short timber uprights on the lawn side (for tidyness) to stop the timber moving under weight of soil / shingle.

update time
project is just about complete
I used treated deckboard which I got for a bargain price down at travis perkins which is only spitting distance from me, I put them in place using secure posts hammered deep into the ground.. then batoned the deckboard to these... I then backfilled in behind these (using the earth and rubbish I dug up from the patio) and the topped it off using top soil upon which I will sow new grass seed which I am sure the birds will love... the drain I installed has been covered over with pea shingle in front of the deckboard so that it provides ample drainage...
