If its going to the scrap man why dont you take em off anyway and try and test fit em? Providing there long enough and the holes line up i guess its fine lol

If they're shorter the bonnet wont open as wide. If there longer it will open a bit wider simple

Also worth remembering that if they are really designed for a heavy tailgate you could end up bending the bonnet.

You can buy nice shiny chrome ones like I did for about £15.

I was not aware you had posted it, in which case sorry.

Still seams a daft idea to me.

I have them on mine fitted by the previous owner.

They are aftermarket and very soft so maybe thats a good bet?

Yes it's only holding up a bonnet.

Just fitted mine yesterday - no worries at all.

They are fairly gentle in operation - no risk of bending the bonnet.

Probably less than 10 mins and about a tenner if you get the bits from a scrapper http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=112349.0

Apparently some can damage the wings, thats why i'm in two minds about putting mine on, although probably will put them on anyway...

If your'e planning on opening the bonnet catch and allowing it to fly up and bounce when the struts are at full extension - then dare I say, you'd be a bit of a wally and yes, you could damage something.

Clearly the bonnet weighs a lot less than a boot lid.  By using the same struts, they're naturally going to open it with more force but having an ounce of common sense and a bit of restraint - you aren't going to damage anything.

Haha...

I meant they seem very smooth when opening and closing the bonnet.
