Title: (Autotrader) What do you think of this one?
Post by: jnufcuk on 21 April 2011, 18:18
http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201107380010071/sort/priceasc/usedcars/maximum-mileage/up_to_80000_miles/seller-type/trade_adverts/fuel-type/petrol/body-type/hatchback/price-to/4000/transmission/manual/engine-size-cars/1-7l_to_1-9l/model/golf/make/volkswagen/page/1/radius/20/postcode/wd33sl?logcode=p

In the market for one and this has been on there for a few months now. Could be either a good or a bad thing?

bit dear tbh

A bit dear  Have you added up the value of everything on it? It comes to more than the car is up for without the price of the base car plus all standard parts are still about and didnt need replacing so could still be completely OEM.................. Absolute steal if you were thinkin of modding anyway or even just to strip the bits and bang on a standard ECU

Wow that's a real beaut mate unfortunately with me only being 21 think a car with all that will b a tad expensive on the insurance :(. Another reason y I was looking at standard than adding bits over time. Got 2.0 gti atm and it's a lovely drive just want a bit much punch after driving my dads vr6 lol :D

mate tbh mods dont add that much value to a car, its done 133k and its 12 yrs old you will be lucky see £3000
Title: Re: (Autotrader) What do you think of this one?
Post by: Ant1981 on 21 April 2011, 20:51
With that mileage, definatley overpriced.
Title: Re: (Autotrader) What do you think of this one?
Post by: vwfiend on 22 April 2011, 01:26
A car is worth whatever someone is willing to spend just like anything. If I could go back to when I was looking for a Golf and mine was availible in the state its in for £3500, Id snap it up. Its cost me a lotta coin to get it to where it is. Also, mileage is just a number. Id challenge it against any Mk 4 with half or more miles on it to drive as faultlessly. Plus cambelt, turbo, exhaust, hoses, waterpump, stat, coolant temp sensor, genuine g60 flywheel and sachs clutch (1500 miles ago), service every 3-4000, full extensive history, new suspension, wishbone bushes, ARB's and braces etc etc have all been done so really not too much that can fail.......... He says

When cars get to that mileage, plenty can fail. The main points being cylinder compression, head gasket and gear box.
Title: Re: (Autotrader) What do you think of this one?
Post by: vwfiend on 22 April 2011, 09:52
Yeah bud, they can but the box showed no wear when doing the clutch, still tight in the gear positions, no noise etc, compression tests are fine which will really only fail on a negkected car and head gasket is ok and no biggie even if it did go and caught early.  All those problems can come up at ANY mileage on pretty much any car depending on how its treated et al

must of had x-ray vision to examine your gearbox when doing your clutch mate, the 02j ECW/EHA gearbox is known for failure plus my 98 105k mk4 must be worth at least £10k then because its got loads more mods than yours but can only seem to attact people who want to pay £4k
come on be realistic

careful with low mileage cars too, parts such as bushes etc can start to fail that higher mileage cars have already had replaced (talking from experience)

Post by: vwfiend on 22 April 2011, 11:25
What were the other 6K of mods then?..... Enlighten me

I agree that a car is worth what someone will pay... I had the gt tdi as in my sig.. Started as a standard 110 VE, converted to run a pd150 turbo, steinbaur chip, full miltek system, r32 kit, gen rs6 wheels, Koni fully adjustables, kamei grill etc etc. I wanted 5k for it on 120k and I got so many offers for 2/3k it was ridiculous so I withdrew it and didn't sell!

You wont get that money for it any time soon thats why you been trying to sell it for months. Maybe if somebody falls in love with it but that price is rediculous

No but it can still end up costing a fair bit to replace it all if you can't do the work yourself
