Title: Ain't Insurance daft
Post by: LPG'd Oakie on 22 March 2005, 11:11
Hi All,

Insurance time again, so did the usual shopping around for a better quote that my renewal (from elephant) and found that Bell Direct could offer me a far better deal.

So, started playing with the quote and found that While Elepahnt charged me ?110 for having LPG, Bell charged ?10.

Then, decided to have a laugh and see how much it would add to put the missus on, bearing in mind its a 16v MK2 and she has had a licence for 2 months. ?20 more!

Lastly added my mum just in case, and that took ?5 off the premimum. BARMY!

Then, inspired by this quote, did one for the missus on her MK2 GTD, which was again less than elephant. I added myself as a named driver (SP30 and 3 Accidents in 3 Yrs ), and it reduced her preimum by ?150.

Needless to say I have started a new policy with Bell direct. But the really funny thing, They are another Admiral company, just like Elephant, and even share the same offices!

Bizarre.

Tell me about it, added my gf at the time to one of my previous cars and policy was reduced by ?30 even though she had literally only just passed her test.

Insurance for the golf is due at the end of April and new girlfriend doesn't have a license so I guess I'd best start saving

Out of interest what are you guys/gals paying at the moment and what age/ncb/convictions/accidents you had? Last year I ended up paying ?783 FC, 23 years old, 2 years NCB and 1 speeding endorsement (92mph on Motorway?) currently with Liverpool Victoria.

27, no points, convictions or anything, full no-claims, all mods listed (engine, body, interior etc) fully comp and its around ?330. not too bad i don't think but not as good as gambits! mine is through HIC, but i renewed it before the golf gti discount, never mind.

who's yours with gambit and are your cars modified?

aye suspension, exhaust and split rims are all declared

only reason its so low is because of my postcode,

also, elephant quoted me ?324 for my initial renewal so i put all my details into their website with the best price being their quoted premium and it came out lower so i got on the phone and done a bit of haggling!!

maybe i'll shop around a bit more next time..... initially i was with admiral but when i put my cam in i phoned them up to tell them and they cancelled my policy! tried a few others but HIC came out the cheapest and they seemed to know exactly what i was talking about which makes a change!

HIC are dead on till you go to claim, then all hell breaks lose (supposedly) - i was with them initially cause they where so low but do a search on HIC on clubgti and you'll find out a lot more. alot of clubs wont even be associated with them anymore

i probably would have stayed with them except elephant where lower

EDIT: tell a lie!! the reason i left them is that they wouldnt cover me Fully comp if i took the car to N.Ireland at any point in time!!!

still would of thought past driving record would of counted for something, i mean with the bike they removed the other peoples bike bit in the middle of a policy.
but i would of also thought the word mature student would of been taken into account

Insurance love it or hate it you must have it!

I pay £202 fully comp, protected no claims through morethan.com probably down to age (32) and post code - Scotland
Like gambit got renewal through and went on website and was £25 cheaper so got on the phone!!

just for laughs I put the mrs as named driver (she is even older than me and drives as slow as a tractor ) and it cost an extra £130 absolutely crazy eh?
