Title: newbie wheel help
Post by: vwchloe on 22 March 2011, 18:08
Hey guys, I wondered if you would help. I just got my first mk4 after having 2 mk3's and a mk2. I have some ronal alloys which i would love to put on the mk4. however I dont think it is possible as I can only find adaptors to 4 stud hubs.

have you guys got any ideas or maybe alternative alloys which are 5 stud that you recommend.

any help would be great. Many Thanks Chloe

im guessing 4x110

problem is that the bolt holes clash with each other, there is adaptors that get around this with an offset bolt but they are very expensive and not really worth it, talking 200 a pair!

thanks guys.

i was just looking on ebay, will a 15 inch 5x100 fit on the mk4? i found some nice deep dish wheels. maybe its best if its too much hassle to keep the ronals for a rainy day or a future project.

Thanks

Anything under 17s look silly in my opinion but then again every one has their own :)

you wont get 15's on, no lower than 17's to be honest

17" or 18" is the best bet anything else looks small on a mk4.

Spot on, a guy in work has a 2.0 with 15"s, 16" were an option I believe but standard on Turbos.

so they will fit? the idea is to lower the car on coilovers so hopefully it would look pretty cool with 15s, i think it has either 15 or 16s on it now tbh.

what you guys recon, its silver and these alloys are like deep dish pepperpot style.

15"s are too small really but 16"s can look good if it slammed, what wheels are they.

You might be looking @ custom adaptors which will not be cheap.

15s will fit over 288s, wont fit over 312s

theres a mk4 round here on 15s, looks surprisingly good when its lowered on its arse

do you know the width and the offset?

yeah they will fit the studs, but need a little more info.

is your car a standard gti? 15 inch wheels wont fit if you have the 312mm brakes fitted than came on the annis

Just to add to the debate on 15" alloys.

I have an early 1.8t GTI and the original wheels that came with it (and are still on at the moment) and they are 15" 5 spoke wheels. I still see them on a lot of the earlier models.

So 15" wheels will fit on the GTi with no issues, although I agree with most of the posts suggesting that 15's look a little lost under the arches. Im not sure I agree about alloys needing to be 18" though - it depends if you want your car to stand out as modified or not. The more subtle 16" and 17" wheels look better in my opinion.
