Title: uk-mkivs.net any good?
Post by: Kus on 15 March 2011, 15:07
uk-mkivs.net is this forum any good?
Looks like a right mess quite hard to find your way around.
Im looking to get some FAQ's on how to do things eg take off body panels interior engine ect ect

Some folks are OK over there but there are some to$$ers who are members, so just watch out for the likes of Rhyso and Wazzer

I used to post on there but since ditching the Golf I can't be bothered.  Always pop in to keep an eye on the build threads though

I occasionally pop on there, very good for FAQs, not sure about the guy that organises them though

I felt the same about ukmkiv's. As compared to this site it is a bit muddled up but once you get used to it there is some clever and knowledgable people on their. They have a good diy section that has helped me with quite a few things I've had to do. And like rhyso says the members rides section is good to keep an eye on how others are modding their mk4's.

I think its good for FAQ's and How to's , but 3 months membership, and 100 posts minimum to use for sale section,  bit excessive i think!?

No Paul is saying they are less clicky over there than here

I don't find a lot of them talk to you unless you are doing something like air ride or spending an obscene amount of money on rims

That makes me want to get mine done now Rich, I just wish I could weld properly rather than something that looks like bird poo

Mine had a bare metal respray back in '89 and it never really did anything after that, I put about 4 litres of zinc primer onto the bare shell and it has done it's job keeping the worm at bay for the last 20 years.

One of the things I regret was chopping the front off to put a flip front on so it looks like yours in this pic at the moment, but I will put the metal one back on at some point

Not got any pics of mine unfortunately, been a long time since I did anything with her  :embarassed: It is MG metalic racing green with a diamond white roof at the moment.

I used to have a slabfront back in the day. Loved it. With a mechanic mates help, managed to shoe-horn a metro mg 1300 engine in her and it proved to be the most fun I've ever had on four wheels.

Except for the time the fibreglass bonnet flipped open doing 70 up the slip road on Gabalfa interchange in Cardiff. That changed the colour of my pants.

There was nothing to touch me off the lights in that thing. Used to shred gearboxes though.

Ahhhh....memories!

Dont get me wrong people, this site is fairly good compared to others. each have issues. The mk4 section on here is really good and some great members who always help each other. But other parts of this forum are very clicky

ive found on ukmkivs that you dont have to be doing anything outrageous, my car has had nothing special like big turbo or airride but yet the members still comment on it and like the things ive done. But i dont go on sites wanting people to tell me my car is great unlike some members i know and i aint bothered if people copy my ideas as this is something that will happen no matter whether your into the dub, scooby, vauxhall scene.

So dont get me wrong fellow members, i dont dislike anyone on here. Im just saying it aint perfect and none of the other sites are either. If you ask me, join up on both sites mate.
