Hi guys,
I'm stilling looking for a MK6 GTI.
- 3dr
- With SATNAV
- White or Black ONLY
These are my only 3 preferences.
I'm up in Teesside so local would be good but not essential.
Anything from MY09 onwards.
Cheers
-
I would narrow your search down to not include the satnav due to how easy it is to retrofit! Might save yourself a few quid!
Just my two cents though
-
Not sure what your budget is or whether you've looked at Pistonheads:

Those prices are taking the p1ss, the first one has been for sale since November and the price hasnt changed in 4 months! The other one is £3k more than I paid for almost exatly the same spec as mine!
Remember, it's only a Golf
Jim

Yes those prices are a little on the high side.
My budget is around 18-20k but will to pay a little more for a very good one

I looked for ages and you won't find a Mk6 for £18k anywhere. The lowest I can find is £19,990 private sale for a three door - Red, the 5 doors are still over £20k.

Good luck in finding a car mate.
Jim

Cheers for that.
Ye Golfs cost a fair bit these days. I'll keep looking otherwise i might have to settle for a Sirocco.

The Sirocco considered higher than the GTI?

I meant that it's a bit of a hairdressers car imo. It's a very nice but not my cup of tea.

I found the very thick 'A' pillars on the 'rocco very dangerous for town driving and the reaview visibility bad. The boot was too small (though larger than a Golf R). Also, kids in the back would feel claustrophobic as they would in any 2 door car. It also looks like a pregnant frog from the rear. I did not like it!

Ditto!
-
Not to mention its just a 4 seater whereas the Golf is 5 and is far more practical and stylish.
-
To be fair to it, everyone I know likes the sirocco. Its like a cool gadget.
-
Has Alex from here sold his candy white GTi???

In that case, change the people you know.
I don't like it. :lipsrsealed:
I like driving a car not a gadget.
-
I like or at least liked it when it came out but I think it is a design that very quickly goes out of vogue.
I now think certain colours of the car just make it look ghastly.

I think that's the point I was making, there is stock on Pistonheads and quite a few vehicles have been there for a while. There is a Golf R on there that started at £34k and is on £27k. If it's been sitting, I'd just make an offer because it's only going to depreciate more.
I don't get the constant jibing about 'just a Golf'. The Golf does sh1t on pretty much everything else out there in that vehicle class. Yeah, it's expensive but it reminds me of Smirnoff vodka at the time of supermarket own brand vodkas being introduced. Supermarket premium came in at the same price point so Smirnoff looked at this and said 'we're better than the competition' so they increased their prices to create 'super premium'. What happened? Their sales increased because people wanted something better. Not that different with the Golf which defined the 'hot hatch' category.
This doesn't mean that I'm happy about paying over the odds for a car and is why I was selective with the tick boxes but there are obvious reasons that the brand has acted in this way.
-
My point about 'it's just a Golf' is that they cost far too much money for what they are. You can buy a Jag XF fully spec'd up with for less money than a fully spec'd 'Golf R' The world has gone mad!
If i'd bought my GTI new it would have cost me £30,500
Don't get me wrong, I love my Golf. It makes me smile as much as my motorbikes used to, but in my opinion a small family car shouldnt cost the amount the Golf costs!
Jim
-
Ain't that the truth Mr Mature.
The prices of Golfs have gone daft. The prices of many other family hatches have too, however most of these would carry a discount and wouldn't have a 9 month lead time.
The GTI (and Golfs in general, though some can be picked up cheapish if you don't mind pre-reg'd) is a victim of its own success and VW are cashing in on it big time.
And to cap it all, if you took a car fairly identical to those on the other page which are £30k ish in for part exchange you'd probably be offered about £19k by a dealer!

To be honest, I think if I was that way inclined, I probably would opt for the Golf R, I'm not a fan of Jags although I concede that the XF in some variants is a beautiful piece of design. I'd still never want to own one though but that's just me.
A car is worth what anyone is willing to pay for it and there are different entry points to Golf as a family car, you don't have to buy the GTI of course. Complaining that premium is expensive is slightly circular but I do agree that they could offer better value in certain areas but with high demand for the model, there is no motivation as people will still buy the car.
One thing I never understood and I don't know if any of the marques do this but you don't get rewarded for patronage as a customer. A member of my family has bought every GTI since the MK1 from new and he is treated no differently for his loyalty than someone unknown who walks in off the street. Saying 'Here are a few tick boxes on us' would certainly make it harder to consider another marque if you're treated like that because his value to VW over his life is massive. With increased prices and the vast amount of choice at that price point, you'd think there would be some consideration for keeping loyal customers content and actually retaining them.
On the theme of 'it's just a....'. Audi. The premium over a Golf? I seriously don't get it given the difference in build quality and dated style for the current A3.

Interesting analogy, I'd say a focus was more the 'smirnoff' and the golf maybe Absolut (just as mass produced but with a perception of being better) :lipsrsealed:
-
Keep this quiet but in January I purchased a 59 plate 3dr White DSG ACC!!! RNS510 and bury phone kit on 17" Monza's and Cloth, 16k miles for £19300. Configured new today came to circa £28300K!
Ok you say possible, but from a Main UK VW dealer?? with free RAC recovery, 20 month warranty and a set of stainless kicker plates thrown in. I seriosly think I could profit (a little) on it. Not something you could ever say after purchasing from a main dealer.
And since I've colour coded the front end and about to carbon wrap the chin lip and rear diffuser  it will be worth a small fortune
-
CHB, hurry up and wrap that rear end. Most interested in the result. What about the side-skirts whilst you are at it? Sweet.

Oh no, I wasn't likening cars to vodka, it was more a reference to how a category leading brand reacted to competition. They're trying to create separation. It's a bit like the RS3, they want £39k for that and in their marketing, they're talking about its competitors being the M3 and AMG C63! They're on the vodka for what's on offer.

More like crack-cocaine. Quite mad.

TBH I don't want to overdo the carbon, like doing the mirrors or interior. The diffuser is  as it is, so should be an improvement - but wont be able to do it in one piece but splice it round the fins etc
Not done it before so will order extra and maybe experiment with side skirts.

I had a spare rear diffuser which I tried to get colour matched to the metallic dark grey of the front spoiler. The Honda Bodyshop (very close to me) made a hash of it. Must go and collect it from them today or tomorrow. It's been there for 9 months! Might have spawned another one by now.

Excellent car = high price.
They'll be a bit cheaper in a few years, or look for a well looked after mk 5.
